Chapter 1195 I'm Afraid They Might Hurt You

"She's a patient I revived. I have to take full responsibility for my patients," Lucas said calmly.

Laura sneered. "I bet you want more than just to take responsibility for her illness."

"I don't think you two have known each other long. Some things are better left alone," Lucas replied, giving her a calm look.

Laura, quick to anger, shot back, "Even if we haven't known each other long, Bernice is our friend. You're about to marry Sarah, so stop bothering Bernice. She's not someone to toy with."

"You two aren't a match," Cassie added. "I believe she doesn't care about what you have. If you want to mess around, find someone who does. Besides, Sarah isn't someone to mess with. If she finds out, she'll target Bernice."

"I can handle Sarah," Lucas said indifferently.

Laura scoffed. "You don't understand Sarah at all. She's very narrow-minded. She won't do anything at first, but she'll bide her time and strike when you least expect it."

Cassie added, "Mr. Nelson, don't make us think so poorly of you. We used to think you were a flirt, but at least not a scumbag."

"You're wrong. I've always been a scumbag, and it is none of your business," Lucas said, walking away.

Watching him leave, Laura stomped her foot. "He makes me so mad! I thought Michael was the worst, but Lucas is even worse."

Cassie frowned. "Regardless, if Lucas uses underhanded tactics, we need to help Bernice."

"Yes, we can't let her become a mistress. Lucas may not care, but she's a celebrity. If this gets out, her career will be ruined," Laura said, frustrated.

In the hospital room.

Lucas pushed the door open.

Stella was helping Bernice with a bedpan.

Lucas's sudden entrance startled them. Fortunately, the blanket covered Bernice's lower body, but she was still embarrassed and annoyed. "Lucas, can't you knock before coming in?"

"Sorry, I didn't expect that," Lucas said, shrugging. "But you're a patient, and I'm a doctor. I see this kind of thing all the time. No need to make a fuss."

Bernice's chest heaved with anger.

Seeing her angry for once, Lucas felt oddly pleased. "When I saved you, your top was already undone. I've seen everything I needed to see."

Stella blushed, unsure if it was from embarrassment or on Bernice's behalf.

"Are you done?" Lucas asked.

"How can I be with you staring at me?" Bernice snapped.

"Hurry up. You need to get your IV," Lucas said, finally turning around.

After Stella finished, Bernice lay on the bed, feeling utterly helpless for the first time.

Lucas hung the IV bag and gently held Bernice's hand, his voice soft and husky. "Relax."

Bernice remembered their first night together years ago. He had whispered the same words in her ear.

Now, with age, his voice was even more magnetic and seductive.

Despite trying to ignore it, Bernice's ears turned slightly red.

"What are you thinking about?" Lucas suddenly asked, amused.

"What could I be thinking? Just hurry up," Bernice said, turning away.

"This can't be rushed," Lucas replied.

Stella's face turned red.

Finally, Bernice couldn't take it anymore. "Where are the nurses? Why are you doing this?"

"The nurses aren't as skilled as I am. I'm afraid they might hurt you," Lucas said with a charming smile.

But Bernice was unmoved. "I don't care. I'm not afraid of pain."

"It makes my heart ache," Lucas said, still smiling.

Bernice sneered inwardly. She knew Lucas's sweet talk was just a tactic. Once he got bored, he'd dump a woman faster than anyone.

"Mr. Nelson, how many women have you said these things to? Did you say them to Nina, too?" she suddenly asked.

Lucas's smile froze. He looked down, and Bernice continued, "I heard the police issued a statement. Nina was innocent. The lawyer who fought against her in court was your best. You sent an innocent person to prison. How do you feel about that now?"

Lucas was frozen. After a long pause, he said quietly, "I'm sorry."

"Sorry?" Bernice laughed mockingly. "Her parents are dead, and she's dead too. Saying sorry doesn't change anything."

"Bernice, stop talking about this. I'm about to give you an injection. If you upset me, I might hurt you."

"Go ahead and hurt me," Bernice said calmly. "If my body hurts, maybe my heart won't feel so disgusted facing you."

Lucas lowered his eyes and finally inserted the needle into her hand.

His technique was excellent; it barely hurt.

"I'll have someone bring you some food later. When the IV is done, press the call button, and I'll come to change it," Lucas said before leaving.

Stella walked over and said, "If he weren't getting married, I might have been charmed by his voice. I don't know whether to call him a scumbag or romantic."

"Don't insult 'romantic,'" Bernice said.

Stella fell silent.

When Lucas returned to his office, he lit a cigarette, staring out the window with deep eyes. He knew Nina was a mark he could never erase.

At the same time, Cassie walked into the CEO's office at the Hernandez Group.

Joseph was talking to a senior executive. Seeing her, the executive smiled and left.

"Am I interrupting?" Cassie walked over and sat on his lap. "It's past six. You're working late."
