Chapter 1130 Can't She Forget Benjamin?

"Got a grudge against Benjamin?" Michael suddenly remembered a good-looking guy bugging Laura three years ago. She'd mentioned her ex, Benjamin, and his childhood friend Isla, had hurt her by getting involved with each other. It made him feel uneasy. "Is this Benjamin your ex?"

"Yeah." Laura swallowed her breakfast, her long lashes casting shadows on her skin. "But my reason for wanting to take down the Hayes Group has nothing to do with Benjamin."

"Then who does it involve?" Michael pressed.

"You don't need to know. If you really want to make up for your guilt, here's your chance. If not, I'll ask Derek," Laura said impatiently.

Michael felt stifled. He didn't get why he had to deal with her ex.

He didn't buy that her sudden targeting of Benjamin's company wasn't out of spite.

But seeing Laura so determined, Michael reluctantly muttered, "Fine, I'll do it. It's just a small food company. Do you want it bankrupt or what?"

"No need for bankruptcy. The Hayes Group's assets are worth billions, so reducing it to a few hundred million will do," Laura snorted.

Michael was silent, thinking Laura was really ruthless.

"Alright," he responded.

After breakfast, Laura walked upstairs. Michael said, "You know, you can let the past go. Living in the past won't make you happy."

"Have you gotten over Megan?" Laura's question stopped him.

Michael choked. "I never thought about revenge. Loving someone is your own business. You can't expect them to love you back. If you want to blame someone, blame yourself for not seeing them clearly. Revenge won't bring back lost love."

"You're so noble. Why not become a saint?" Laura turned and looked at him mockingly.

"I'm just giving advice." Michael's face reddened from the sarcasm.

"Michael, it sounds like you've never blamed Megan. Have you thought about the fact that you're thirty and haven't had a single mutual relationship?"

Laura walked towards him, eyes filled with sympathy. "If it weren't for me, you wouldn't even know what sex feels like. Megan deceived you for over ten years."

Michael's face turned pale. "I was willing to be deceived. Megan always rejected me."

"You're wrong. Stop making excuses. Didn't Megan often tell you that if you'd appeared earlier, if she hadn't fallen for Joseph first, she would have loved you?"

Michael was stunned, staring blankly.

Laura guessed she was right. "She'd call you for no reason, ask for help, and confide in you when she was down. You were always there, always waiting. One call from her and you'd run to her."

Michael's face turned red with embarrassment.

Laura cut him off, "I had plenty of suitors, especially when I was in a relationship. But I always rejected them firmly and kept my distance. It wasn't that they were bad; I just knew that frequent meetings would give them false hope and deepen their feelings, which is another form of harm."

Michael stayed silent, realizing a lot from her words.

"If someone knows you love them deeply but still keeps coming to you with their relationship troubles, they want you to think you have a chance if they break up," Laura said sharply. "Such a person isn't worth cherishing. They don't love you; they just want to flirt. If they find someone better, they'll drop you without hesitation."

Michael thought of the night he saw Megan with another man, and his heart ached.

'Maybe women really do understand women better,' he thought.

"Thanks. I'll know better in the future," he muttered.

Laura glanced at him, feeling a bit satisfied.

"By the way, if you go after the Hayes Group, Benjamin will find out it's you. He'll come to you and badmouth me. Just ignore him."

Michael blinked. "He's your ex and abandoned you. He still wants to badmouth you?"

"In his eyes, maybe I'm a bad woman. Just like Cassie before, didn't Joseph see her as lowly? Do you think Megan is the only despicable woman in the world?" With that, Laura went upstairs.

Michael was naive and hadn't met people like Olivia or Isla. If he had, he'd be truly shocked.

Michael left Riverside Blossom with a heavy heart and quickly called his assistant to handle the Hayes Group.

As the president of Ocean Blue Group, dealing with a small food company was easy.

But after giving the instructions, he still felt uneasy.

He was handsome, some even said more attractive than male celebrities. He didn't expect he'd have to deal with Laura's ex to get her attention.

He felt more and more pathetic.

Finally, he called Joseph, "Joseph, can you ask Cassie what Laura means by asking me to deal with the Hayes Group? Is she really not over Benjamin?"

"No need to ask her." It was Cassie's voice on the other end.

Michael checked his phone. It was eight in the morning.

'Are Cassie and Joseph already together so early? Or did they sleep together last night?' he wondered.

"You two aren't still in bed?" Michael thought of himself sitting alone in the cold last night and felt a surge of depression.

"Is it strange that we're still in bed?" Joseph laughed, "When you have someone you love, you won't want to get out of bed either."
