Chapter 1404 Keep an Eye on Michael
"Why'd he drink so much?"
She was kinda surprised.
Usually, when Michael hit up social events, he didn't go hard on the booze.
She didn't think Michael would go all out on a business trip.
If some chick took advantage, it would be a total mess.
"Too many big shots tonight, and Mr. Jude couldn't say no. Those top dogs at Emerald Lakeside could be future partners," Magnus explained, trying to cover for Michael.
"Alright, make sure the hotel gets him a light breakfast tomorrow. And remind him not to get wasted again."
Laura hung up after that.
Sometimes, you gotta show a little concern.
She wanted to take her marriage seriously and couldn't be too high and mighty.
With Michael not around, and after wrapping up at the office, no one was nagging her to go home, so she took Maeve and Cassie out for a stroll.
Cassie brought Oliver and Sophia along. The kids were all about Maeve.
"Mommy, Maeve's getting cuter. She was all wrinkly like a monkey when she was born," Sophia pinched Maeve's cheek. "I really like her."
"If you like her, tell your mommy to have another one," Laura teased with a grin.
Cassie almost choked on her drink and shot her a look, "Are you nuts?"
"My mommy's got her hands full with us," Oliver said coolly. "But you could give Maeve a little brother."
"No way. You can just look out for her for me."
Laura quickly waved it off. Having a baby is a pain; she didn't want to go through that again.
"Won't the Jude Family push for a boy?" Cassie raised an eyebrow. "Even if they like you and Maeve, big families always want a son."
"Isn't there still Aaron?" Laura muttered.
"Depends if he has a boy or girl when he gets hitched. If it's a girl, you'll probably get pressured to have another kid." Cassie said, sipping her tea slowly.
The Hernandez family was complicated, but still simpler than the Jude Family, which was into both politics and business.
Otherwise, Eric wouldn't have put up with it for years, using all the Jude Family's resources to get Carl to that high spot.
"We'll see," Laura felt a bit annoyed.
Actually, a month after Maeve was born, when Laura visited the Jude family, she'd hear relatives joke about planning for a second kid in a year.
Laura just smiled and didn't say anything, but the elders of the Jude Family didn't object, which meant they were on board.
"Yeah, no rush now. When Maeve's a bit older and things with Michael get better, you might want another kid."
Cassie pulled out her phone, "Got this text yesterday."
Laura leaned over to look. It was from an unknown number: [Megan is back in Whisperlyn City; be careful.]
She was stunned, "Who sent this?"
"No clue." Cassie had a guess but kept it to herself.
"Megan's really back?" Laura was surprised. "Weren't you and Joseph looking for her?"
"Yeah, no luck."
"Is the person who sent the text better than you guys?" Laura was full of doubts. "You didn't notice, but they did?"
"I think it's real. It should be one of Megan's enemies," Cassie said. "Megan has probably pissed off more people than just us, and Nathan's disappearance is pretty weird, don't you think?"
"That's true. I really hated Nathan, but he just vanished, leaving me no chance to get back at him."
Laura felt a wave of annoyance. She loathed Megan.
Back when Cassie had her accident, she was seriously hurt by the Zenith siblings. And the worst part was the death of Nina's parents.
"But Megan's got no one left. Why would she come back? If I were her, I'd hide abroad and never return." Laura couldn't help but mutter.
"I don't know." Cassie gave her a meaningful look, "Keep an eye on Michael."
Laura's heart skipped a beat, "Michael wouldn't be that dumb, right? Come on, Megan humiliated him so bad back then, almost crushed his dignity. He hates Megan's guts."
"I'm just being cautious."
Cassie thought for a moment, "After what happened with Olivia, I realized never to underestimate any woman who plays the weak card. Megan's tricks are no less than Olivia's. Heck, she might be even more ruthless. She played Joseph, Lucas, and Michael. Do you think Olivia could pull that off?"
Olivia definitely couldn't.
Olivia purely relied on David's help and even used Cassie's unseen mother to get in.
Laura said irritably, "If Michael gets tangled up with Megan again, I'll definitely cut off his junk and divorce him."
"I'm just asking you to keep an eye out. It's unlikely; Michael isn't that stupid," Cassie laughed. "Michael's got a good thing going now, with a loving wife and a beautiful daughter. He wouldn't want to mess that up."
Laura snorted, "Of course, I'm way better than Megan. If we catch Megan this time, we must avenge Nina."
"Definitely."
Laura and Michael hadn't talked much these past few days.
She only knew he'd be back on the third day. When she called Michael, he said he'd arrive in Whisperlyn City on a 7 PM flight and told her not to pick him up or wait for him for dinner.
But on the morning of the third day, while she was in the lab working on a new product, a socialite from the Whisperlyn City circle who had attended a banquet sent her a photo: [Just got back from a few days abroad, and guess who I saw at the airport? Michael, LOL.]
Laura opened the photo and, despite the distance, it was definitely Michael and his secretary Magnus. Magnus was lugging the same two suitcases as when they left.
But didn't Michael say he'd be back in the evening? Why was he back at 11 AM?
Being lied to didn't sit well.
She tried to calm herself, thinking maybe Michael had an urgent matter.
Michael's long-lasting feelings for Megan back then showed he wasn't someone who fell out of love easily, and the Jude Family's couples generally had good relationships.
She thought for a moment and called Michael, casually asking, "What are you up to?"
"I'm still checking out the factory at Emerald Lakeside," Michael joked, "Miss me? Don't worry, I'll be back tonight. Wait for me."
"Okay."
After hanging up, Laura looked at the photo on her phone again, feeling confused.
