Chapter 336

His phone rang just as he finished speaking.

Glancing at the caller ID, Cassie noticed the word "Grandma." Joseph walked out with his phone. "Grandma, is there something you need?"

"Do I need a reason to call you? I feel bothered when you are busy. How many days has it been since you visited the estate? Your mother's back. You're staying at the manor tonight."

He glanced at the bedroom door and rejected the idea. "I don't have time."

"You don't have time for important business meetings. You don’t have time for dates with Luna either; what on earth are you up to?" Mildred's annoyance was palpable. "You need to come home. We should have a family dinner together."

Joseph scoffed, "A serene dinner, or are you trying to force me to bring Liam back?"

Mildred sighed, "Joe, these past few years, we’ve been trying our best to keep your mother out of the company affairs. We let you and Liam have your spats because everyone knows Liam's no match for you. We've been on your side, but if Mabel gets riled up and returns to the company, you won't have it so easy."

There was a moment of silence, then Joseph's cold laughter broke through, "Fine, I'll get him to return."

"That's good to hear," Mildred said, visibly relieved. "When will you come for a meal with me?"

"Not anytime soon."

Mildred, exasperated, said, "Do you not even have time to join your grandmother for dinner? Or is it that you'd rather spend nights with women? Don't think I'm senile. I heard about your overnight stay at Oasis International with a lady."

His cold laugh gave nothing away, though he knew it must have been Luna who had seen them; those close to him were tight-lipped. "Isn't that normal for a man?"

"What about Luna?"

"I'm not interested in her. I have to go."

He ended the call.

The following day, as Cassie descended the staircase, there was a new face in the mansion—Rosalind, whom she had previously met at the Howe residence.

Rosalind greeted her warmly, "Joseph transferred me from the old house to take care of you."

"Thank you, Rosalind," Cassie said, feeling a mix of gratitude and embarrassment, aware that Rosalind knew her status and might look down on her.
Rosalind could tell what she was thinking, and it made sense. "I practically raised Joseph myself; I was his most trusted confidante at the family estate. His asking me to look after you shows that he greatly values and cares for you."

Cassie gave a rueful smile inside. She was nothing more than a mistress who should be kept hidden away.

Soon enough, Joseph changed into fresh clothes and joined her for breakfast.

The breakfast Rosalind prepared tasted great, and Cassie liked it, though Joseph ate very little.

With a sigh, Rosalind said, "Joseph, you have to eat something. Skipping meals like this won't do – your health will suffer."

Cassie was taken aback.

He wasn't eating? He could polish off two or three bowls per meal, but Joseph had slimmed down a lot since returning to New York.

"Rosalind, I'm not hungry."

As soon as Joseph finished speaking, his phone rang again. Upon answering, he swiftly stood up this time, his expression shifting, "Alright, I'm heading back to the office now."

"Rosalind, make her something nice for lunch. She could use a good meal," Joseph said as he walked over to Cassie and gently patted her head before turning to leave.

Cassie wasn't sure what was happening, but she could tell from his urgency that it was severe.

A news alert came through her phone shortly after breakfast: Liam Hernandez had encountered danger in country F and was currently missing.

News from the Hernandez family always turned heads in Madison.
