Chapter 1454 She Has Already Become a Demon

Gabriella, the assistant, followed her gaze and noticed the hustle and bustle at the entrance. "Bernice, what are you staring at?"

"Just checking out how busy the hospital is. It's pretty packed," Bernice replied, pulling her gaze back.

Gabriella chuckled, "Which hospital isn't busy? Plus, Nelson Hospital's got the best docs in Madison."

"Guess I'll be back for another IV tomorrow," Bernice said. "Didn't the doc say I need three days straight?"

Gabriella was taken aback. Bernice was known for ignoring doctor's orders, but this time she seemed to be playing by the rules. Must be feeling really rough. "You know, you could just have a family doctor come to your place. You're a public figure, after all," Gabriella suggested.

"Doesn't matter. I feel better at the hospital," Bernice said, heading towards the door. "You've been worn out these past few days. I'll have the bodyguard come with me next time. You focus on your work, no need to see me home."

When she got home, Bernice shrugged off her coat and flopped onto the sofa.

The driver, who followed her in, carefully placed the fruit visitors had brought on the coffee table.

Bernice pulled out a box of cigarettes from under the coffee table. With a cigarette between her slender fingers, she looked distant and indifferent. She lit it and took a deep drag like a seasoned smoker.

Only those who really knew her understood that this was her way of coping with extreme pain.

After a couple of minutes of silence, she finally spoke, "Megan should be in the burn unit these days. Now that Joseph's memory is almost back, Michael trusts Megan even more. I bet once Megan's a bit better, Michael will think about sending her away from Madison."

The driver chimed in, "Megan will probably find a way to stay."

"Maybe she already has," Bernice suddenly smirked.

The driver looked confused.

Bernice exhaled a puff of smoke, making her look even more mysterious. "Didn't someone see Michael spend the night at Megan's place after getting drunk a while ago? For Megan, the only way to secure her spot is through a kid. I don't believe she wouldn't scheme. Plus, her hypnosis skills are top-notch. Hypnotizing a guy to sleep with her is nothing."

The driver was shocked, but he couldn't help but think: a man and a woman spending a whole night together in the same room? Yeah, something probably went down.

"So, Megan doesn't mind being sent abroad. Once she's pregnant, Michael will call her back," Bernice laughed.

She had grown up with Megan and knew her well. "But I can't wait until she comes back to act. After all, if Megan is pregnant with Michael's child, the people at EchoReach will keep an even closer watch on her, and I'll have even less of a chance."

The driver frowned with concern. "This is just your guess. Besides, Ms. Brooks and Mr. Hernandez will probably take action too."

"Yeah, Megan has plenty of enemies. But what can I do? I just want her to die by my hand," Bernice said coldly. "And I don't want it to be quick. I want to make her suffer, bit by bit, the worst pain imaginable."

The driver looked at her. In the hazy smoke, the perfect and delicate Bernice on TV seemed to have transformed into someone else.

That look was all too familiar, just like when she had Nathan locked up and tortured him day after day. No, it was even crazier than that.

After a long pause, the driver finally spoke, "Our lives are yours. Without you, we wouldn't be here today. We're ready to lay it all on the line. But the hospital's too chaotic. I'm worried they might trace it back to you."

"It doesn't matter. If they trace it back to me, I'll take the fall alone. You all will be safe," Bernice said, her voice hollow but laced with a madness that seemed ready to plunge into hell.

No one understood. From the moment Laura spilled the truth to Bernice yesterday, she had already stepped one foot into hell.

She seemed to have become a demon. All she wanted was revenge, and nothing could stop her.

The next day, when Bernice went to the hospital, she only brought the driver and a bodyguard.

Wearing sunglasses and a hat, she quietly got her IV in the emergency room when Lucas, dressed in his work clothes and wearing a stethoscope, walked in.

"Feeling better?" Lucas naturally reached out to touch her forehead.

Bernice instinctively turned away, leaving Lucas's hand hanging in the air. He wasn't mad, just smiled. "A doctor checking a patient's temperature, no need to be so tense."

"Mr. Nelson, you seem to be a specialist in internal medicine," Bernice reminded him, her sunglasses hiding her emotions.

"Well, if you put it that way, the hospital is mine, and I have the right to oversee all the patients here," Lucas said, starting to examine her.

Bernice lowered her head and didn't stop him.

"You're too weak," Lucas said with a half-smile. "Is your sleep poor? Do you often stay up late?"

"I'll prescribe you a seven-day course of medication to nourish your body," Lucas said with a frown. "You're young now, but as you get older, your body might not hold up. If you get sick, it could take half a month to recover."

"Yeah, I need to take care of myself. After all, I'm the top earner for your company. If I get sick for that long, it will affect the company's revenue," Bernice said, sounding uninterested.

"I don't really need your income." Lucas suddenly chuckled. "Bernice, why do you have to struggle so much?"

Bernice didn't respond. Her sunglasses covered half her face, hiding any emotion, leaving only her slightly pink lips visible.

Lucas still remembered the taste of her kiss from yesterday. He couldn't describe the feeling, but it was like the first time he kissed Nina. He even found himself thinking about it last night.

Lucas was torn between his head and his heart.

His head told him to stay away from Bernice because of Nina.

But every cell in his body wanted Bernice.

He thought he might be a bit obsessed because he hadn't slept with her.

"Bernice, whatever you want, I can give it to you." Lucas reached out to remove her sunglasses.

Bernice dodged and suddenly asked, "I saw Michael yesterday. Is Megan also hospitalized here? Laura said she injured Megan's hand yesterday."

"Yes." Mentioning this, Lucas's voice turned cold, clearly disgusted.

"The day before yesterday, I heard Laura say," Bernice looked up and continued, "that Megan admitted in front of her that she killed Esmeralda and threw her ashes into the sewer."

"Does Laura have direct evidence?" Lucas suddenly asked.
