Chapter 1787 Bernice was now an opponent he could face head-on.
Domingo was knocked to the ground, his face and mouth burning with pain.
He shouted angrily, "Someone, Lucas is hitting me, call the police and get him arrested."
In the past few days, Domingo had arranged several bodyguards at the door.
But now, despite his shouting, it was Thaddeus who came in.
"Mr. Nelson, the people outside have been dealt with," Thaddeus said respectfully.
"Wow, you even arranged people to deal with me," Lucas said as he grabbed Domingo and lifted him. Domingo struggled violently.
But with his bulky body, Domingo was no match for Lucas. After a few punches, Domingo was quickly beaten down.
"Stop hitting me," Domingo, who was used to a life of luxury, couldn't take this kind of treatment for long. "Lucas, you'd better watch yourself. Many departments are already investigating the Nelson Group because of you. The board is very dissatisfied with you. If word gets out that you assaulted me in the company, do you think you won't end up in jail again for a few months?"
"Once is enough for some mistakes. Do you think I'd make the same mistake twice?"
Lucas lifted Domingo, his buzz cut making him look even more intimidating. "I heard your mom is traveling in Selaestan recently. Have you contacted her today?"
Domingo's pupils dilated as he suddenly understood.
Lucas wasn't in a hurry and let him go. "You should contact your mom. If something happens to her while she's traveling abroad, it would be troublesome. After all, you're a filial son."
Domingo didn't waste any time and quickly picked up his phone to call his mother. When the call connected, his face turned complex with emotions.
"Lucas, you despicable person," Domingo said angrily. "Bernice was right to call you cold-blooded and heartless. You're a real bastard."
"Did Bernice say that about me? I didn't know," Lucas squinted. "I'll give you an hour to pack your things and get out of this office, or don't blame me for not giving you a chance."
Domingo clenched his fists in anger, feeling particularly unwilling. Why should he, older than Lucas, be under him for so many years? "Lucas, even if you kick me out, the fact remains that the Nelson Group has suffered heavy losses because of you. You've been to jail and have a criminal record. When the board meeting comes, it won't be easy for you to give everyone an explanation. Besides, the public already dislikes and resents you. Your return to power will only make things worse for the Nelson Group."
"Then I don't mind supporting a puppet to take the position, but that puppet will not be you."
A sneer appeared on Lucas's face. "Domingo, you probably don't understand me well. I only like being in control. No one can stop me. Even if the Nelson Group is going to perish, it will only perish in my hands."
"Madman," Domingo shuddered. "You're too selfish."
"Are you done talking? Take your things and get out," Lucas said, lifting his chin arrogantly. "Otherwise, I don't mind throwing you out myself."
Domingo glared at him viciously, but with deep helplessness and unwillingness.
In the end, Domingo could only reluctantly take his laptop and walk out.
As he reached the door, he remembered something and stopped, giving a cold smile. "Lucas, you're so arrogant. You think you can control everything. You can kick me out, but there will always be things beyond your control."
With that, Domingo left with a face full of unwillingness.
Lucas looked at Thaddeus with a deep gaze. "Is there anything in the company that I don't know about?"
Thaddeus was stunned and said in confusion, "No, I've told you everything I know."
"Go check, check thoroughly."
Lucas ordered calmly.
Bernice had given him a profound lesson, making him never underestimate anyone again.
"Okay." Thaddeus turned to leave.
"Wait," Lucas called him back. "What's the situation with Bernice?"
Thaddeus was stunned and quickly said, "She donated the ten billion dollars you gave her to impoverished areas. She has received rave reviews online, and her popularity and likability have far surpassed that of superstars. Several tourism bureaus across the country have asked her to be their spokesperson, but she has refused. She said she won't return to the entertainment industry."
"What exactly does she want?" Lucas sat in the leather chair. He no longer saw Bernice as a mere object to satisfy his desires but as an opponent worthy of his attention.
Even now, he found it hard to understand Bernice.
"If you can't figure it out, how could I possibly guess?" Thaddeus said flatteringly. "But a month ago, Bernice returned to Whisperlyn City. She hasn't re-entered the entertainment industry. Many capitalists offered high pay for movies and advertisements, but she refused them all. She seems genuinely uninterested in money. Recently, she's been staying in her villa, occasionally shopping with friends, but nothing significant."
After a pause, Thaddeus hesitated and said, "Maybe her previous actions were mainly to get back at you. Now that you've been to jail and returned, she's let it go."
"Let it go?"
Lucas laughed as if he had heard a ridiculous joke. "The game between her and me, once it started, there's no letting go."
Thaddeus remained silent.
He had long expected that someone as vengeful as Lucas wouldn't care whether he was at fault in the first place.
Bernice, though smart, hadn't considered the consequences.
"Mr. Nelson, how do you plan to deal with her?" Thaddeus hesitated. "Right now, you've just been released from prison. If anything happens to Bernice, everyone will suspect you. It's unwise to act now."
"Of course, I know that," Lucas said, giving him a cold glance. "Know your enemy and know yourself, and you can fight a hundred battles without defeat. The reason I lost is that I didn't understand Bernice well enough. Send someone to her birthplace and investigate her thoroughly."
"Okay."
Not long after Thaddeus left, Lucas began to gather all the information about the Nelson Group from the past three months.
Until Max came in.
It had only been three months, but the once high-spirited Max looked much more haggard. "Mr. Nelson, I've been looking forward to your return. I'm sorry, but I couldn't save Dreamscape Entertainment Group."
Max said bitterly, "After you went to prison, many of the slightly famous artists under Dreamscape Entertainment Group went to other companies. Even promising newcomers were poached. Those who didn't leave couldn't afford the breach of contract fees, but Stellar Entertainment Group made it clear that no one in the industry would dare to use our company's artists."
"Stellar Entertainment Group is that powerful now?" Lucas looked up sharply. "I remember before I went to prison, I asked you to investigate the new shareholder of Stellar Entertainment Group. Any leads?"
"Yes."
Max's face turned complicated. "The mysterious person providing Stellar Entertainment Group with a continuous stream of funds is someone named Reborn."
