Chapter 13 She really needs to go

Joseph was silent, thinking, 'What possessed me that night?'
Cassie suddenly said, "I get it. Are you still mad about what happened earlier?"

She bit her pink lips as if making a decision. Then, reaching out, she unbuttoned the top button of her nightgown, revealing a patch of skin.

Joseph's breath hitched, and he irritably slammed the door as he left, throwing out a "Shameless" as he went.

Cassie looked at her collarbone, feeling a mix of relief and amusement. She hadn't even shown much, and he had already left.

Although his temper was bad, he was still a gentleman.

Such men were rare.

In the middle of the night, Cassie was half-asleep when she was awakened by a series of noises outside.

She got up and went out, turning on the light to find Dakota lying weakly under the table, vomiting.

"Dakota." Cassie was startled and reached out to pick him up, but Joseph's icy voice came from behind. "Move aside."

Her hand froze in mid-air as Joseph stepped forward to pick up Dakota.

In the light, his sharply defined face was cold and devoid of any warmth, but deep in his eyes, there was a gentle glow that was mesmerizing.

"What's wrong with him?" Seeing Dakota in distress, Cassie was at a loss.

"What do you think?" Joseph glared at her. "He's a cat, and you fed him all sorts of junk food. Do you think his stomach can handle it?"

Cassie felt deeply guilty. "I'm sorry."

Joseph gave her a fierce glare, then quickly grabbed his car keys and headed out with Dakota in his arms.

Cassie hurriedly followed him into the elevator, anxiously saying, "I know a good pet hospital. I'll take you there."

Joseph pressed his thin, cold lips together and ignored her the entire time.

When the elevator reached the parking lot, he walked out quickly.

As they reached the car, Cassie had just opened the passenger door when a rough force yanked her away.

Wearing slippers, she stumbled a few steps and fell to the ground.

Joseph stood in front of the car, his eyes flashing with a chilling and hateful cold light. "Get lost right now. I don't want to see you when I get back, or else don't blame me for being rude."

With that, he got into the car with Dakota, and soon, the white car sped away.

In the eerie parking lot, Cassie watched the car drive away, and the tears she had held back all day finally burst out.

Today, she had faced everyone's indifference and rejection.

The Brooks family was no longer her home. She had thought that at least here, Dakota would be warm to her.

Now, even here couldn't accommodate her.

She laughed bitterly, but thinking of Dakota's pained expression just now, she suddenly felt deeply remorseful and guilty.

Joseph didn't like her at all. She had been clinging to him, disregarding her dignity. Was this really worth it?

And she had even hurt Dakota.

She should leave.

She got up from the ground, quickly went back to her room, packed her things, and left.

At 2 AM.

Not wanting to disturb Laura, she drove directly to a nearby five-star hotel.

In the lobby, she took out her card and handed it to the receptionist. After a moment, the receptionist returned the card to her. "I'm sorry, this card can't be used."

Cassie was stunned and quickly handed over another card.

But after trying several cards, none of them worked.

She understood now; all her cards had been frozen.
