Chapter 302

"Joseph looked at his phone inside the conference room at the crack of dawn, a hint of amusement flickering in his otherwise austere eyes. Jerk? Somehow, those words appeared incredibly sweet to him.

The executives were stunned to see him checking his phone during a meeting. Still, their surprise was magnified when they saw their typically austere president smiling so tenderly—it could've knocked their jaws onto the table.

A flicker of deep contemplation passed through Liam's eyes, who was sitting beside Joseph. His memory of Joseph was cold and unforgiving, but this new side of him seemed out of character. Was it because of a woman?

Liam spoke with a concerned smile, ""Big bro, are you chatting with Miss Luna? I heard you two are getting married soon.""

The executives suddenly realized what was happening. No wonder Miss Luna was so favored; they would have to curry favor with her in the future.

""Back to the meeting,"" Joseph said coldly as he put down his phone and continued to preside over the assembly.

An hour later, he returned to his office.

Walter said, ""Joseph, Miss Luna is downstairs seeking an audience with you, probably about the land issue.""

""I'm busy. Tell her to leave."" Joseph issued the dismissal without even lifting his head.

Walter was speechless; he couldn't convey that message so bluntly. Instead, he told Luna that Joseph was preoccupied and advised her to come again some other day.

Luna was on the brink of desperation, unable to believe that Joseph would deny her even the courtesy of a meeting. Was he dissatisfied with her? Did he not want her to take Viv's place?

The situation was dire. The word was out that Joseph had asked her to dance at the gala—if they didn't get married, she'd become a laughingstock.

In her panic, Mildred called out of the blue. ""Luna dear, happy Women's Day! Joseph had some French delicacies flown in from overseas. Bring your family over for dinner; it's the perfect occasion for our parents to meet officially.""

Luck seemed to come all at once, and Luna was ecstatic. ""I'll be there.""

She had thought that Joseph's refusal to let her into the company meant he didn't like her, but in the blink of an eye, a meeting of the families was arranged, quelling her irrational fears.

............

Mildred hung up the phone at the Hernandez family estate with a satisfied smile. Walter rustled his newspaper and snorted, ""There you go again, making plans without consulting anyone. Be careful, or Joseph will have words with you.""

""I just want to see him give me a great-grandson soon,"" Mildred retorted sharply. ""If we wait for him to take the initiative, he may never get married. Just look at how seldom he's taken the initiative with Luna.""

Walter disagreed, ""He's done rather well, I think. He's a man of deep affection. Yeah, he just hasn't escaped Megan Ray's shadow, but we can't drag our feet anymore. A family dinner is a good idea,"" he remarked as he began instructing the kitchen.

...

Meanwhile, Luna couldn't wait to discuss the matter with Vera when she got home.

""It looks like luck is on our side this time.”

Vera was thrilled, but she quickly regained her composure. ""Call Cassie over tonight, too.""
