Chapter 764
Eric, annoyed, said, "Do you think I don’t know? You were drinking at the bar last night because Megan is getting married today. The Jude family is esteemed and respected. How did we come to have someone as incompetent as you? Is Whisperlyn City lacking women that you have to chase after Megan constantly? The descendants of the Jude family are being used as emotional stand-ins by others. Are you not ashamed? Both your parents and I are ashamed.”
Grandpa, you're being too hard on me. I haven't used anyone as a replacement for my emotions. Megan and I are just good friends," Michael explained awkwardly.
Caroline, also upset, retorted, "Would a true friend always drop everything to come running when you call? Your diary was practically a tribute to Megan during school.”
"Mom, you're going too far! You shouldn’t read my diary," Michael retorted, feeling embarrassed and angry.
"You're my son. I don't want you to be fooled by Megan," Caroline said passionately.
“I've overlooked this in the past, but with Joseph getting married and you getting older, this situation is becoming embarrassing. People are starting to think I haven't raised my son properly," Eric grumbled.
Regarding Laura's situation, Eric added, "I am aware of what transpired with Laura. Three years ago, she was excelling as a formulator at Ocean Blue Group. You damaged Laura's reputation by accusing her of plagiarism, citing a personal conflict between her and Megan. You also hindered her progress in the industry. I may be old, but I am not senile. Laura's actions against you last night were justified.”
"Grandpa..." Michael felt dismayed as he realized his family was siding with Laura.
"Come on, am I really your grandson?"
"I also wonder how I, I, who have led an honest life, ended up with a grandson like you," Eric said angrily, slamming the table and rising to his feet. "Look at your uncles, aunts, brothers, and sisters; they are all exceptional, unlike you, who is incompetent.”
"Dad, don’t be angry," James patted Eric on the back.
"Shameful," Eric took a deep breath and suddenly said, "Well, since you claim Laura harmed you, and she has tarnished your reputation, ask Laura to compensate you."
"Compensate me for what?" Michael was touched, realizing that, after all, he was Eric's biological grandson, and his family would support him.
"Compensate you with a marriage. Ask Laura to marry you," Eric sighed. "Although the Miller family isn’t as prestigious, this is the only solution available."
Michael was completely bewildered. Marrying Laura?
Hell no!
"Grandpa, are you joking?" Michael asked.
"Do I look like I'm joking?" Eric glared at him fiercely.
“The Miller family is another prominent aristocratic family in Madison. Laura's brother, Elliott, is quite talented. Over the last two years, our Jude family company has engaged in some collaborations with the Miller family. Your sister Julia spoke highly of Elliott, mentioning his remarkable abilities. Since assuming control of the company, Elliott has been consistently expanding its reach," Eric elaborated.
"The Miller family is decent, except for the incident with Laura and Nathan three years ago... But I've also investigated. Laura is a virgin, and it's also because of you and Joseph that her reputation was damaged. It's convenient for you to stop thinking about Megan," Eric concluded.
"Mom, Dad, please say something for me. Grandpa is getting more confused as he ages," Michael looked helplessly at his parents.
Caroline hesitated and then looked at the old man, "Laura might not want to marry him, right?"
"I agree," James nodded.
No, wasn't this the point? The point was he wouldn't marry her.
"I don't care what you guys think. I won't marry her, even if I am to stay a virgin for life," Michael said angrily before storming off.
At worst, he woudln’t come back again.
"Michael..." Caroline watched his retreating figure and shook her head. "He doesn't know how people in Whisperlyn City gossip behind his back. It's one thing if it's others, but Zenith's Family has no right."
"Mom, don't worry. I have an idea," Julia reassured.
