Chapter 1136 Impersonation
Everett's face shifted, and Ariana stared at her, stunned. "You know I'm your mom?"
"I saw your photos," Olivia said, choking up. "You had an accident right after I was born."
"What happened to me?" Ariana asked gently, though her eyes sharpened.
Given her status, a surprise daughter made her cautious.
"You hit a typhoon," Olivia bit her lip. "I was too young then. Grandma told me on her deathbed. You went to Yugrot after a call, hit a typhoon, and went missing. The police thought you were swept into the sea and presumed dead."
Ariana was shocked.
She'd been rescued from the sea, and only Declan and Everett knew.
"My mom is dead?" Ariana felt a sudden sharp pain.
"Grandma passed, and Grandpa too. They were in their eighties," Olivia sighed, eyes red. "You have a brother, Robert. He's been good to me."
"Really," Ariana said bitterly. "How is he?"
"Not well, he's in prison," Olivia sighed.
Ariana was stunned, then narrowed her eyes. "What happened?"
Olivia hesitated. "It's about their daughter. But let's not get into that. Mom, I came to Neya City to find you. I didn't know if you were alive. A year ago, someone said they saw a person in Neya City who looked like me. I hoped it was you, so I came here. I didn't expect..."
Her tears fell. "I didn't know how to find you, so I won at the casino for three days straight, hoping you'd notice me."
"I know," Ariana said, hugging her. Any doubts about Olivia vanished. "Olivia, you've had a tough time."
"It wasn't hard. Seeing you again is great," Olivia choked up.
Declan, nearby, frowned and spoke coldly, "Who told you? What did they look like?"
Declan's tall, imposing presence made Olivia nervous. "I don't know. I met him in first class on the plane. He sat next to me."
"Enough, honey, she's my daughter. A DNA test doesn't lie," Ariana glared at Declan.
Declan said, "She's had plastic surgery."
He could tell instantly.
He always disliked plastic surgery. It looked unnatural and stiff, unlike Ariana's natural beauty.
Logically, Declan should've liked Ariana's daughter since he had a good impression of Ariana from the start. But something felt off. Olivia looked like Ariana, but she lacked her spirit.
Olivia's face tightened. "I didn't get plastic surgery by choice. A few years ago, I crossed some powerful people back home and had to change my appearance and leave. Here are my old photos."
She handed over her phone, showing old pictures.
Luckily, she resembled Robert more. She used to look a bit like Cassie and Ariana.
Ariana looked at the photos, then at Olivia, and her doubts faded, especially after seeing Robert's photo. Though older, his eyebrows and eyes resembled Ariana's. "Is this Robert?"
"Yes," Olivia nodded. "Robert's been great to me, even though I was kidnapped for over ten years."
"You were kidnapped?" Ariana's eyes widened.
"When I was four or five, I wandered off while playing with Robert and got kidnapped. I lived in the countryside for a long time," Olivia said half-truthfully, "Robert and Grandma never stopped looking for me. They found me a few years ago and even got me into college."
"It's my fault," Ariana felt even more heartbroken.
Everett, standing nearby, asked sharply, "Who were you hiding from with the plastic surgery? How did you offend powerful people?"
Olivia replied, "The Brooks family's situation is complicated. I have a cousin named Cassie, Robert's daughter. She's beautiful and looks a bit like Mom. After I was found, Grandma and Robert were very kind to me, trying to make up for lost time. But the family always doted on Cassie, and she didn't like the change. She targeted me. Later, because Arthur, whom she liked, fell for me, our relationship broke down."
Ariana immediately disliked Cassie. She snorted, "Feelings are mutual. If someone grew up with her and still didn't like her, she can't blame you. It shows she has a terrible personality."
Olivia felt happy hearing this but kept a sad face. "Not long after Arthur and I got together, she sought revenge by seducing Joseph, the richest man in Madison at the time."
"Joseph?" Declan frowned. "I've heard that name. Oh, right, he's one of the top lawyers in the world."
"He's not just Madison's top lawyer but also its richest man," Olivia said. "She got Joseph to make our family miserable. You once founded the Peace Group. Grandma wanted to pass it to me, but with Joseph's help, Cassie pretended to be your daughter and took over. When Grandma tried to expose her, Cassie pushed Grandma down the stairs. She even had Joseph defend her in court. We couldn't fight against Joseph."
