Chapter 1128 Please, Stop Crying

Laura closed her eyes, thinking, 'Should I have come to Whisperlyn City?'

No regrets. If she hadn't, Cassie would have faced everything alone, feeling helpless.

Luckily, she was there. Over the past three years, driven by determination, Laura reached the peak of her career.

"No, I don't regret it. I don't want to be that aimless woman from three years ago in Silverwood, just waiting around."

"Laura, haven't you let go of the past?" Benjamin's voice trembled.

He thought, "Why is she so bitter? She must still be holding on."

"Mr. Hayes, if you want to take me back, stop talking. If you hadn't kept driving, I would've gotten out long ago," Laura said impatiently.

What a day. First, she argued with Michael, then Lucas, and now she ran into Benjamin.

Benjamin frowned, wanting to speak but afraid she'd actually get out.

He had the driver slow down. Then his phone rang—it was Isla. He panicked, silenced it, and tossed it aside.

"Aren't you worried Isla will overthink if you don't answer?" Laura sneered.

"No, it's not Isla," Benjamin lied.

Laura didn't bother to call him out.

When they reached Riverside Blossom, she got out of the car.

"Laura," Benjamin called, getting out too, feeling like a knife was cutting his heart.

They were close, but their hearts were miles apart.

Laura looked up, her eyes bright and captivating.

"Laura, I've opened a branch in Whisperlyn City. I'll be here most of the time." Benjamin handed her a business card. "This is my number."

Laura took it, playing with it. "Isla's coming too, right?"

Benjamin's face stiffened. "Laura, Isla is innocent. Don't hate her. She's been by my side, helping me move on."

Laura laughed. "I despise her because of you, but my resentment for her is separate. If you want to come, fine, I'll play with you both."

"What do you mean?" Benjamin's face changed.

Laura smirked. "If you hadn't shown up, I wouldn't have remembered I have a score to settle with her. You'll protect Isla, so I'll deal with you first."

"Laura," Benjamin's voice grew heavier. "What are you planning?"

"You want to expand the Hayes Group, right? Dream on. With my current abilities, crushing you is easy." Laura put the card in her bag.

The card had Benjamin's company name and number, so she didn't need to look it up.

As Laura turned to leave, Benjamin grabbed her. "Whatever you want, come at me. Leave Isla out of it. She's innocent."

"If you love her so much, then be her knight and protect her forever," Laura said coldly.

Benjamin stared at her, anger in his eyes. "Laura, it's been three years. You haven't changed; you've just gotten meaner. No wonder Michael doesn't want you either."

"Three years, and you're still as clueless as ever," Laura shot back, clenching her fists. "Go ahead, curse me. The harsher you curse, the higher the price you'll pay."

She shook off Benjamin's hand and walked away without looking back.

She walked for what felt like forever until she was finally alone.

Only then did the tears start to fall.

Maybe it was the pregnancy making her more emotional, but Benjamin's words stung.

In Benjamin's eyes, would she always be inferior to Isla?

Isla was the angel, and Laura was the villain.

Laura thought, "What did I do wrong? I've always been the one hurt, yet no one ever felt sorry for me. No one knew how lonely I feel."

"Laura, why didn't you wait for me?" Michael, who had been waiting at the building entrance, saw her and rushed over. Seeing her tear-streaked face, he was stunned. He had never seen Laura cry like that, and it broke his heart.

"Why are you crying?" Michael asked.

Laura hadn't expected him to appear. She quickly wiped her tears and walked into the building with her head down.

Michael was dazed for a moment before quickly following her. "Did Lucas say something too harsh earlier? I'm sorry I said the wrong thing too. Bernice is your friend; you can do whatever you want. Don't be mad, don't cry, okay? Crying too much is bad for the baby."

"Get lost," Laura snapped, unable to hold it in any longer.

Benjamin's words, "No wonder Michael doesn't want you either," had completely shattered her pride, making her furious just seeing Michael.

She couldn't control her tears. "Why am I so unlucky? You men, go to hell."

Michael, panicking, searched for tissues but had none. "Please don't cry. It's not good for your health."

He kept repeating the same few words, clearly clueless about comforting a woman. "Caroline said crying makes you age faster and look ugly."

"Michael, if you can't say anything nice, just shut up," Laura yelled, throwing her bag at him.

If it were before, Michael would have pushed back, but seeing her crying so hard and knowing she was pregnant, he just shrank and said, "Alright, hit me. Take your anger out on me, just don't cry."

"Jerk," Laura muttered, exhausted from hitting him, feeling a bit relieved.

She took a deep breath, embarrassed that Michael had seen her crying, and quickly ducked into the elevator.

Michael immediately squeezed in, seeing her red and swollen eyes and nose, feeling even more heartbroken.

It was the first time he had seen her, usually so sharp-tongued, in such a state.

"Get out of here," Laura pushed him.

"No, I'm not leaving," Michael said, huddling in the corner of the elevator, refusing to move no matter how hard she pushed.
