Chapter 1286: I Want to Learn How to Make Money

Cassie stared at Joseph's ridiculously handsome face, struggling to tell him she had to head out again.

"Come on, hang out with me," Joseph said, reaching through the window to grab her hand.

"Joey, I just got a call. I gotta go out again," Cassie said. "It's kinda important."

Surprisingly, Joseph didn't throw a fit. He just blinked sadly and asked, "More important than me?"

His voice was all raspy, and his eyes were red, like he was about to cry if she said, "More important than you."

Cassie softened her tone, "Of course, you're the most important, but I can't be with you all the time. Look, there are so many people at home. I need to work to support the family and get you candy and gifts."

"Then ask my mom for money. She should spend money on me. I don't want to spend your money," Joseph said seriously after thinking for a moment.

Cassie silently felt bad for Mabel and smiled, "But I also need to earn money for Oliver and Sophia's tuition."

"Then you can ask Oliver and Sophia's dad for it," Joseph said, "Why should you bear all the burden alone?"

Cassie was speechless.

Cassie wanted to say, "Sophia and Oliver's dad is you," but she held back.

But she was only leaving for a bit, so how did Joseph even know that parents should share the burden of raising their kids?

"Where'd you learn this?" Cassie asked, puzzled. She didn't remember teaching him that.

"I was just watching TV with Grandma. The TV said so."

Cassie was silent.

Mildred was watching those weird TV dramas again. First, she led Sophia astray, and now Joseph too.

"Their dad got hurt because of something and can't bear the burden," Cassie explained gently.

Joseph looked at her for a while and said softly, "Cassie, you're so pitiful. You met a bad person."

Cassie was silent.

Cassie thought, 'Joseph, I really hope you remember what you said when you regain your memory.'

"Anyway, even if it's not for the kids, I need to earn money for myself. Women need to take care of themselves, buy clothes, and spend money everywhere," Cassie said. "And don't tell me to ask your mom. She can give you money, but it doesn't make sense for her to give me money because we have no blood relation."

Joseph listened, a bit dazed, "Then I'll earn money for you. But I don't know how to make money. Oh, I can learn from you."

He finished speaking, opened the passenger door, and sat inside. "Take me with you. From today on, I want to learn to make money."

Cassie felt both touched and like crying.

She wasn't actually going to earn money; she was going to kick Robert and Helen when they were down.

But since Joseph was already in the car, she couldn't force him out. She had to say, "Then follow me, okay?"

"Okay, I'll be good," Joseph said and placed his hands on his knees, looking like a well-behaved child.

Cassie smiled, leaned over, and pulled the seatbelt over him.

Her hair, with a pleasant fragrance, brushed past his nose. Joseph's heart was racing.

Joseph lowered his head, and her body lifted slightly, revealing half of her side face. Below that was her slender, graceful neck.

He suddenly felt his mouth go dry and had this crazy urge to bury his face in her neck and kiss her.

"All done," Cassie said, looking up.

Their eyes locked, and the desire in his eyes was still there.

Cassie was taken aback for a second, then playfully tapped his lips, "Spill it, what were you thinking just now?"

Joseph bit his lip, looking a bit shy but still honest, "I wanted to kiss your neck."

Cassie's face turned bright red. She didn't expect him to be so bold.

"Seriously? I was just fastening your seatbelt, and you thought all that?" she said, giving him a playful glare.

Joseph stared at her without blinking.

Cassie ruffled his hair, "I'm in a hurry now. I'll keep you company tonight."

"Oh," Joseph mumbled, not fully understanding but happy as long as Cassie was with him.

Forty minutes later, they pulled into the hospital parking lot.

Cassie held his hand and took the elevator up. When they reached the room Nathaniel mentioned, they saw several police officers inside.

Helen was crying and complaining, "It must be that vicious woman Cassie. She did it. She hates us. She said that as long as we both die, the property in our hands would be hers."

"Yeah, it's her. You gotta investigate. She definitely hired someone to do it," Robert chimed in.

As soon as he finished speaking, Cassie rushed in with red eyes.

"Mom, Dad, are you okay? I was so scared when I heard something happened to you," Cassie looked genuinely worried.

The police were stunned. Helen was so angry she wanted to sit up, but as soon as she moved, her tailbone hurt terribly. Helen shouted, "Cassie, how dare you come here? Officers, it was her. Arrest her."

The police were puzzled, "I heard her call you Mom and Dad."

"I don't recognize her as my daughter," Helen almost blurted out that she wasn't her biological daughter.

"Mom, Dad, as long as you're okay," Cassie sighed worriedly and turned to the police, "You must investigate who harmed my parents. Seeing them like this breaks my heart."

The police's mouths twitched, "But your parents said it was you."

"Me?" Cassie looked shocked, "They're my biological parents. How could I do something so evil and crazy?"

"You are that evil and crazy," Helen cursed.

"My parents have never liked me," Cassie said sadly, her pure and beautiful face showing sorrow. "They despised me and kicked me out of the house a long time ago. Today, I wanted to mourn my cousin, but my parents kicked me out of the funeral parlor. By the way, it was my assistant who called you. I asked him to stay at the funeral home to wait for my parents and take them home. Who knew this would happen."

Nathaniel immediately said, "Yes, she asked me to stay. I wanted to help, but there were too many people."

The police knew Nathaniel and had seen the surveillance footage, so they immediately believed Cassie.

"You two are so cruel to your daughter," the police glared at Robert and Helen.

Helen was furious, "We did not."
