Chapter 1144 Laura Stood in Front of Michael
Laura used to really dislike Michael, but now she thought he was actually cute.
"Stop fighting, you guys," Isla shouted. When no one listened, she grabbed Laura's skirt and pleaded, "Laura, please ask Mr. Jude to stop. You can't just bully people because you're from the Jude family."
The crowd around them grew larger.
As soon as they heard "the Jude family," they perked up.
"Is that the family future President Carl belongs to?"
"Probably. I heard Carl's goddaughter lives in Riverside Blossom."
"So, she's Carl's goddaughter?"
"No wonder she's so arrogant. Imagine if Carl becomes president."
Those words reached Laura's ears.
Laura, furious, pushed Isla away. "Shut up. You guys started this fight. Did I force you? I've been dating Benjamin for about six years. During that time, I was his girlfriend, but when you were sick, he was with you. When you went shopping, he was with you. When you were in a bad mood, he was with you. He even bought you sanitary pads when you had your period. And you still claim you're innocent? Do you think I'm an idiot?"
Laura's loud words made the onlookers give Isla strange looks.
"No way. I'd be furious too."
"I don't know who's telling the truth. Let's call the police before someone gets seriously hurt."
Isla initially wanted to keep acting, but seeing Benjamin already on the ground, being kicked by Michael, she rushed over and threw herself on top of Benjamin. "Please stop hitting him. If you want to hit someone, hit me."
She thought Michael wouldn't hit a woman, but he picked Isla up and slapped her.
"Isla." Benjamin, his eyes red with anger, stumbled forward and pushed Michael away. "Michael, if you want to fight, fight me. What kind of man hits a woman?"
"Who hit a woman first?" Michael sneered. "Why didn't you say that when you hit Laura? You're such a hypocrite."
"That's because she bullied Isla first."
"What did Laura do to bully her? Did Laura hit Isla? You should ask her why she came here. No one forced her," Michael shouted. Although he arrived late, he didn't believe for a second that Laura, who was pregnant, would fight with Isla.
Benjamin was stunned for a few seconds until Isla suddenly threw herself into his arms. "Benjamin, I'm sorry. I just wanted to ask her to spare the Hayes Group. I can leave you. It really has nothing to do with Laura."
"Stop talking," Benjamin, who was initially a bit angry with her, became furious seeing her swollen face. "Michael, the Jude family is bullying us."
Michael sneered.
At that moment, the police arrived.
With the large crowd and the high-profile people involved, the police took everyone to the station.
An hour later, Julia showed up.
When she saw Benjamin and Isla's bruised faces, her expression turned icy.
"Julia, why are you here?" Michael stammered, surprised.
"Your fight is all over the internet. Everyone's saying the Jude family is bullying people," Julia scolded. "You've been back one day and already caused trouble. Do you want me to lock you up?"
"Julia, don't blame him," Laura stepped in, standing in front of Michael.
"What happened to your face?" Julia asked, narrowing her eyes.
"Julia, he hit Laura," Michael pointed at Benjamin. "Mom asked me to bring clothes to Laura. When I got here, I saw him hitting her."
Julia's face darkened even more. Her sharp eyes turned to Benjamin.
Benjamin trembled. Julia was the head of the Jude Group, known for being ruthless and feared by many in Whisperlyn City. He had only seen her on the news before.
Now, facing her in person, he was overwhelmed.
"Ms. Jude, this started because Mr. Jude and Ms. Miller were oppressing the Hayes Group," Benjamin said, enduring the pain in his ribs. "This is all due to misunderstandings and grudges from when Ms. Miller and I dated three years ago. Isla is my girlfriend. She came to apologize to Ms. Miller and ask her to spare the Hayes Group."
"Then Ms. Tarro came to apologize to me, even grabbing my skirt to stop me from leaving," Laura interjected. "Mr. Hayes hit me as soon as he arrived. Mr. Jude saw it and stood up for me. There's surveillance. I never pushed Ms. Tarro."
"But you targeted the Hayes Group first," Isla choked out.
"What did I target?" Laura raised an eyebrow. "The Hayes Group was exposed for having carcinogens in their products. What does that have to do with me? Did I make your products carcinogenic? Your company has problems, and you blame others. Do you expect me to solve your crisis?"
Benjamin gritted his teeth. "I heard from the regulatory department that Mr. Jude made a call."
"Tell me who said that. It's complete slander," Michael sneered. "I don't care if you slander me, but slandering the Jude family is a big deal."
"Indeed," Julia said coldly. "I'll find out who spread these rumors. Such people have no place here."
Benjamin shivered.
If Julia eliminated those who told him the truth, who in Whisperlyn City would dare help the Hayes Group?
It would cut off the Hayes Group's path.
He quickly said, "Ms. Jude, I'm sorry. There might be a misunderstanding. No one actually said anything. I guessed it myself because Ms. Miller said a few days ago that she would go after the Hayes Group."
Laura also sneered. "When did I say that? Do you have any evidence?"
