Chapter 150

"That afternoon, Cassie stepped out of the elevator only to be confronted by Arthur Lewis blocking her path.

""Can't you take a hint? Wasn't I clear enough before?"" she snapped, trying to walk around him.

""Cassie, your grandmother passed away!"" Arthur grabbed her arm with urgency. ""Didn't you know?""

Cassie's body jolted, and she slowly turned, disbelief etched in her eyes. ""You're lying!""

""I'm not. I've been trying to reach you all day to offer my condolences. Looks like the Brooks family didn't bother to inform you.""

Before he could say another word, Cassie pulled away, madly rushing to her car. Her hands trembled so violently, she couldn't even unlock it.

""Look, you're in no state to drive. Let me take you; I know where it is,"" Arthur said, gently taking the keys from her, opening the car door, helping her in, and securing her seatbelt before driving swiftly to the funeral home.

Arriving, Cassie stumbled into the chapel, and upon seeing her grandmother’s portrait, the last thread of hope in her heart was severed.

Tears fell, heavy and unrelenting.

She had never imagined that her last engagement dinner would be the final time she'd see her grandmother. She felt like an ingrate; she had let her grandmother down.

""Who let you in?"" Robert, clad in mourning attire, said furiously upon seeing her, tugging her towards the exit. ""Get out!""

""Why can't I be here? I'm her granddaughter,"" Cassie shot back, her eyes blazing with anger. ""Why wasn't I told about her passing? Denying me the chance to say a final goodbye—you all are heartless!""

""How dare you insult me, you brute!"" Robert raised his hand to strike her, but Arthur quickly stepped in, blocking him, his voice thick with anger. ""Was Cassie wrong? Our grandmother adored her from childhood. To deny her a final farewell is callous. Aren't you afraid that grandma's soul won't rest in peace?""

The phrase ""soul won't rest in peace"" hit Robert hard, his pupils contracting sharply.
Cassie seemed lost, her voice carrying a touch of bewilderment, ""Why did Grandma have to pass away so suddenly?! Last time I saw her, even though she was paralyzed, she still ate. She shouldn't have left us this soon.""

Robert's thin lips trembled, finding himself suddenly at a loss for words.

Olivia Brooks, standing to one side, let out a sorrowful sigh. ""After a while, Grandma stopped eating much. She was a complete mess, and with you and Alexander stirring up trouble, the company was in deep water. Mom and Dad were so busy trying to right the ship that they might've neglected her at times, and... we just didn't expect her to leave us like this.""

As Olivia spoke, tears started rolling down her cheeks. ""Dad, please don't beat yourself up over this.""

Her words seemed to jolt Robert into focus, and he quickly snapped at Cassie with a fierce glare, ""This is all on you! If you hadn't created such chaos at Height Company, I wouldn't have had to deal with such headaches, and your grandmother would still be alive.""

Arthur Lewis couldn't stand it anymore. ""Uncle, even now you're trying to shift the blame onto others. It's clear as day – your lack of discipline allowed Alexander to get away with everything. You're reaping what you've sown.""

""Arthur, I get that you're upset because I called off our engagement, but you can't slander my father like that!"" Olivia Brooks shot back, her eyes red-rimmed with accusation.

Arthur Lewis might once have held back, but after seeing Olivia Brooks' true colors, he found her more repulsive by the second.

""Olivia Brooks, I'm actually relieved I never married a two-faced woman like you!"" he spat out through clenched teeth.
