Chapter 1513 Merry Christmas, Surprise!

Laura's brain froze for a moment before she blurted out, "Good personality, good temper, loyal in love, patient with kids, can put up with me no matter what, and always treats me well. He doesn't have to be super handsome, just not ugly. And it would be nice if his family background isn't too bad. It's not that I look down on guys from poor families, but having similar backgrounds makes things easier."

Derek nodded thoughtfully, "Got it."

Laura felt a bit awkward. "Am I asking for too much?"

"Nope," Derek said with a grin. "Except for looks, which are out of our control, if a guy can't be gentle, considerate, and loyal, he shouldn't get married. He might as well just hire a housekeeper."

"You think I'm right, don't you?" Laura's face lit up. "I don't want to be picky, but I can't help it. I wasn't picky before, and I got hurt over and over. Sometimes I'm really scared of getting hurt again."

"You won't be," Derek assured her, looking straight at her. "As long as I'm around, no one will hurt you again."

In the small, bustling noodle shop, people were coming and going, making a lot of noise.

But suddenly, Laura felt like everything around her had quieted down.

All she could hear was Derek's magnetic voice, making her face heat up, and she even felt a bit short of breath.

"Eat your noodles, or we'll miss the movie," Derek reminded her with a smile.

"Okay." Laura quickly lowered her head and started eating.

Derek noticed her reddened ears and chuckled.

After finishing their noodles, they headed to a nearby movie theater.

When they got there, Derek bought a bucket of popcorn and two cups of freshly squeezed juice.

While watching the movie, Laura kept munching on the popcorn.

She ate so much that she got thirsty and kept drinking the juice.

Halfway through the movie, Laura felt something was off. The cup she had been drinking from was almost empty, but the one in her hand still had a lot left.

A few seconds later, she awkwardly tugged on Derek's sleeve.

"What's up?" The movie was loud, so Derek bent down and brought his lips close to her ear to ask.

Derek's warm breath on her earlobe felt like an electric shock, making Laura's heart race. Luckily, the theater was dark, so he couldn't see her blushing face.

But she didn't notice her eyes flickering.

Derek, seeing this up close, immediately got the hint.

Seeing her not speak, he deliberately leaned closer to her ear and asked again, "I said, what's wrong?"

Derek's lips brushed against her earlobe, making Laura shiver slightly, as if she had been shocked more intensely. She instantly sat up straight and glared at him. "What are you doing?"

On the screen, the movie was at a tense moment, which drowned out much of her voice.

Derek, looking puzzled, leaned in again and asked, "What did you say?"

Laura didn't dare let Derek get any closer, so she quickly moved away, only to bump into the guy on the other side.

The guy turned around and gave Laura an annoyed look.

Laura quickly apologized. She didn't know if he heard her, but he went back to watching the movie.

Laura pulled back and saw Derek raising an eyebrow at her.

Frustrated, she grabbed Derek's head, leaned close to his ear, and angrily whispered, "I accidentally drank your juice."

Laura's breath was sweet and soft.

Derek seemed to get how Laura felt earlier.

So he leaned close to her ear and said, "It's okay, I don't mind."

Laura fell silent.

She moved away, really not wanting to talk to him like this anymore. It was too intimate, and half her brain felt numb.

As for Derek touching her ear earlier, it must have been an accident.

But Laura's reaction was a bit much. Could it be that she was feeling lonely and empty?

Laura's face blushed as she got lost in thought. She didn't pay attention to the rest of the movie.

When they came out of the theater, it was already past eleven.

The mall was closed, and the audience had to take the elevator down. Because there were so many people, the small elevator was packed.

Laura stood in the corner, not getting squished because Derek was in front of her, holding the wall to keep some distance between them.

A big guy came in and pushed Derek hard against her.

Caught off guard, Derek's body pressed fully against Laura.

Laura's body was curvy, and she was trapped in Derek's arms like a little kitten.

Derek almost felt aroused.

Fortunately, he controlled himself, so Laura didn't notice anything unusual.

Laura's face was pressed against his chest, making them look like a couple, and she felt awkward.

Finally, they reached the parking lot, and people streamed out of the elevator.

As they walked out, Derek complained softly, "I didn't squish you, did I? That guy behind me was like a mountain; I couldn't move him."

"I saw that," Laura pouted and said. "I almost got squished flat."

Derek didn't say anything, just turned his head to look at her slightly red and full lips, which were very tempting, making him want to kiss her.

That night, Derek experienced many moments that almost made him lose control.

But he had to admit that, among all those moments, the one in the elevator when he pressed his body against hers was the most likely to make him lose control.

When they reached the car, Derek opened the trunk, revealing a bouquet of pink roses and a small gift box.

He took them out and handed them to Laura. "Merry Christmas!"

Laura was stunned, momentarily at a loss. "What are you doing?"

"A Christmas gift. Didn't you say many colleagues gave you Christmas gifts today? It would be wrong for me not to." Derek smiled calmly at her. "Take it. I give gifts to my family every holiday."

"Okay." Laura took the gift, feeling relaxed but also having an indescribable feeling.

When she saw the gift, she felt a bit romantic and even wondered if Derek liked her.

But Derek liked men.

How could she forget?

"Did you give your mom flowers too?" she asked.

"If I gave my mom flowers, my dad would probably want to punch me," Derek joked. "But if I didn't give you flowers, no one else would."

"Get away." Laura said, lightly pounching him with her fist. However, if she had paid more attention to her voice, she would find it carried a hint of coyness.
