Chapter 516
"Megan, you're alive," Nina murmured, aghast. Megan merely offered a playful smirk in response. "I didn't anticipate your reaction, though. You seem... repulsed."
Megan's unexpected return filled Nina with a potent loathing. Every time Megan surfaced, those around Nina suffered. She had assumed Megan was dead, but now she was back, alive and well.
"Why have you returned?" Nina demanded, her voice laced with venom.
"I've come to reclaim what's rightfully mine," Megan replied, a satisfied grin spreading across her face. "Your mother ruined my family. So, tell me, how should I make her suffer this time?"
Nina's anger flared at Megan's words. "What are you planning to do, Megan? My mother never wronged you. She treated you better than she treated me."
Megan's eyes darkened. "She did it to appease my father. Now, he's comatose in a hospital after a heart attack, and your mother is alone and vulnerable. I'll make her pay for the pain my mother endured."
Nina retorted, "My father is divorcing your mother because she's been unfaithful..."
"Enough!" Megan cut her off abruptly, her voice sharp. "You dare to argue with me?"
Nina gripped the railing, her eyes bloodshot. "If my mother suffers even a bit because of you, Megan, I won't rest until you pay."
Megan laughed, a cruel, mocking sound. "You won't get the chance." She covered her mouth, her eyes gleaming with malice. "I heard you're friends with Joseph's new wife."
Nina felt a shiver of fear at her words.
"I'm back now. She should step aside," Megan declared, her determination unwavering.
"Joseph loves Cassie," Nina retorted coldly. "They're married. You won't be able to drive her away."
Megan's smile didn't falter. "Joseph hasn't returned to his so-called wife. He spends every day with me. You should know that our bond is unbreakable." With that, she turned to leave. "Goodbye, Nina. We may not meet again. After all, you're destined for a life behind bars."
Nina fell silent, her eyes reflecting her confusion.
Seeing her bewilderment, Megan smirked. "You may not know yet. The lawyer representing the Zenith family is formidable. Lucas personally ensured you'll receive a life sentence."
"Lucas?" The name hit Nina like a punch to the gut. Could anyone be more heartless than her first love?
Megan continued, her voice dripping with satisfaction. "Since you're on death's door, I'll tell you a secret. Lucas never loved you. It was all a game to him. He lost a bet and had to date you. He said you were cheap, the most shameless woman he'd ever been with." With that, Megan sauntered away, leaving Nina shattered.
Nina sank to the ground, her legs giving out beneath her. She sat there, unable to rise, consumed by self-loathing. Why had she fallen for a man who seemed gentle but was utterly heartless? She had let her guard down for Lucas, only to be met with his cruelest betrayal.
Tears splashed onto the cold ground. Lucas, Megan, Michael, Joseph - as long as she lived, Nina would make them pay for their treachery.
