Chapter 1339 He Finally Didn't Have to Endure Anymore

Cassie looked at him, her eyelashes fluttering with confusion.

The Joseph standing in front of her still had that handsome face, but now it seemed more intense, more aggressive.

Her mind was a total mess.

"Joseph, I remember telling you before."

"You said back then I had lost my memory, hadn't been with any other woman, didn't understand love, and might have just been dependent on you." Joseph cut her off, "Yeah, I get it. But I tried. When Marigold came onto me, I felt nothing but disgust."

"That's 'cause you knew she was bad news and had an agenda."

"But when she touched me, I felt no spark at all," Joseph's eyes were burning, "But with you, just a slight touch and I feel it."

He was way too blunt. Cassie's face turned bright red.

Joseph watched her delicate face under the moonlight. He'd been pretending to ignore her, acting all indifferent, but now he couldn't hold back anymore.

He stared at her lips, his Adam's apple bobbing, a flash of desire in his eyes.

Just as Joseph was about to speak, Aiden's voice came from the doorway, "Cassie, it's late, come back and put the kids to bed."

Aiden was sitting in a wheelchair, eyeing Joseph warily from a distance.

"Aiden." Joseph smiled slightly and greeted politely, "You can go to the company tomorrow. David's done for, and no one's gonna mess with your company anymore."

Aiden was a bit shocked, but he remembered Cassie mentioning Joseph's plan before. He didn't expect it to actually work.

Anyway, they didn't have to leave now, which was a good thing.

"Thanks for that," Aiden said politely but distantly, "From now on, you and Cassie can finally start your own lives."

Aiden's meaning was clear: even without David, Joseph and Cassie were never gonna happen.

Joseph played dumb, smiling innocently, "Yeah, David's been taken by Declan, his identity's wiped. He's as good as dead, and has no ties to Cassie anymore. She can start fresh, even date, and no one will say a thing."

When Joseph mentioned Declan, Aiden was momentarily lost.

He'd known for a while that his first love, Isabella, had remarried to a more prominent guy.

He'd missed out on Isabella.

Seeing him like that, Joseph said, "By the way, Isabella knows the truth now. She'll probably come to reunite with Cassie."

"I have nothing to do with Isabella," Cassie said, resisting, then walked behind Aiden and pushed his wheelchair, "Dad, it's cold out here, let's go in."

Aiden nodded, looking complex, and turned to Joseph, "Joseph, you're not getting any younger. I hope you find a new girlfriend soon. From now on, your relationship with Cassie will only be as the father of her kids. I don't want any more drama between you two."

Cassie paused for a moment, but she still pushed Aiden inside.

Joseph stood there for a while before finally leaving.

Inside the villa, Cassie glanced out the window, and Joseph's figure was already gone.

She was lost in thought for a while until Aiden's voice broke through, "Gotta admit, Joseph's got skills. Didn't think he'd pull it off and take down David and Marigold. Out of all the young folks, he's probably the only one I really respect."

"But Cassie, just 'cause I respect him doesn't mean I want you with him. As your dad, I just want you and the kids to have a chill life. You've been through too much crap. When you're with Joseph, I see more pain than joy. I hope you find someone who can really protect you, not just offer a temporary shield."

"I get it, Dad. You should get some rest."

Cassie nodded; she totally got what Aiden was saying.

After tucking Aiden into his room, Cassie headed back to her bedroom.

The nanny had almost finished bathing the kids.

Cassie dried Sophia and Oliver's hair when Laura suddenly called, her voice all hyped up, "Holy crap, David and Marigold got caught. I can't believe it. That jerk Carl didn't tell us squat. I've been freaking out these days. Thought my life was over. I feel like such an idiot now."

Cassie laughed, "I see you've picked up a lot of Michael's lingo."

"Is this really the time to talk about that? We just dodged a bullet." Laura was almost in tears, "I've been so scared I couldn't sleep. I even heard gunshots outside the villa today. I was scared out of my mind."

"Is your kid okay?" Cassie asked, worried.

"He's fine. Michael just got back, and I gave him a good smack. I feel way better now." Laura sniffled.

Cassie was quiet for a moment, "I heard from Joseph that Michael only found out about the plan today. Don't be too hard on him."

"Do you blame Joseph? Michael said he knew all along," Laura suddenly asked, "But Joseph didn't tell you, did he?"

Cassie paused, then said, "I don't blame him. It was the President's plan. If he had told me, seeing you so scared, I would've told you. You might've told someone else in the Jude family. The people around us seem trustworthy, but the more who know, the bigger the risk of a leak. If the plan failed, we'd all be screwed."

"Are you saying I can't keep a secret?" Laura was mad but helpless, "But if I knew the truth, I would've secretly told you. Anyway, you have a point."

Cassie laughed, "Don't worry, your position's more secure now. No one dares to mess with the Jude family now."

"True that," Laura chuckled, "So, being in our high positions, we gotta deal with great fear to enjoy great honor. By the way, we're finally free. Let's go shopping tomorrow, and I should transfer the Peace Group to you."

"Okay."

Cassie nodded. It was time to chill.

But as Cassie lay in bed, she still felt a sense of unreality. She mused, 'Is David really done for? Great!'
