Chapter 120

"David said, ""He had been off the grid for years, but then he suddenly showed up in Madison. Trying to get him back in the game is next to impossible, though. I once offered him a staggering three hundred million to work a business deal for me, and he turned it down flat.

""Of course, he's turned down so many people—top business personalities, heavy political players... Money and power just don't seem to faze him at all.""

Laura Miller was speechless.

She racked her brain; this Joseph Hernandez David mentioned, was it the same Joseph Hernandez? The name of her caring husband, also a lawyer, popped into her head.
Her friend had always claimed her husband's earnings were comparable to her own.
This haughty and sharp-tongued man was apparently so only because he was a friend of Noah Collins.
Oh my goodness, which high-and-mighty big shot had her friend carelessly tangled with?
And to think, they'd been living under the same roof for over two months without her realizing it.

""Don't worry, I'll go talk to him,"" David said.

""Um..."" Laura Miller coughed lightly, ""If it's the same Joseph Hernandez you're talking about... I used to be on speaking terms with him. I'll reach out to him, and if even I can't sway him, there's no point in Mr. Foster making the effort.""

Sending David would be like sending a lover to ask the legitimate husband to save his wife amidst divorce proceedings. Joseph Hernandez wouldn't just refuse; he might as well make Cassie's situation permanent.

So, David absolutely couldn't be the one to go.

""You know him?"" David looked at her with a newfound curiosity.

Arthur Lewis was also surprised. ""I've heard of this attorney in passing. Laura, you really hide your light under a bushel.""

Laura Miller sheepishly replied, ""I don't know him personally, but a friend of mine is quite close to him.""

""Your friend must be quite something,"" praised David. ""We'll await your good news.""

Laura Miller thought, Yeah, my friend is 'quite something,' waiting in a police station for you to come to the rescue.

After they parted ways, Laura Miller immediately phoned Noah Collins: 'Mr. Collins, have you been informed about Cassie’s situation? She’s been taken into custody for questioning. The allegations appear serious, and I’m concerned they may charge her. Do you think Joseph Hernandez might be willing to represent her?""

Noah Collins let out a sigh. ""Joseph doesn't even want to hear Cassie's name right now. He's not going to help. In fact, he decided to divorce her just a few days ago.""

Laura Miller felt overwhelmed. ""Where is he? Can you give me a chance to talk to him in person?""
Unfortunately, he's taken a case and left on a business trip yesterday; he won't be back until the day after tomorrow.

Laura Miller's heart sank at this news. Rescuing Cassie tonight seemed impossible. ""Can you tell me the hotel he's staying at? I'll catch a flight right now to see him.""

Noah Collins, on the other end of the line, hesitated for a moment but eventually disclosed the address. Whether or not she would be able to influence Cassie was now in Laura's hands.

That same evening, Laura booked the earliest flight bound for the port city.

Upon arriving at the hotel, she went straight to his door and knocked.

It was opened by a tall, young man whose unbuttoned white shirt revealed a hint of a seductive chest down to the collarbone."
