Chapter 290
""Get out,"" Joseph snapped, issuing a cruel command.
Luna's eyes reddened in disbelief. ""Joseph, I'm your girlfriend.""
""That can change at any moment,"" Joseph retorted, dragging her by the wrist downstairs.
It was the first time he had pulled her toward him, but any flicker of happiness was short-lived as he thrust her out the front door. ""Luna, have your folks ever taught you manners? You don't just barge into someone's house without knocking.""
Luna's voice was choked with sadness. ""It's not that I lack manners. It's just that Mr. Hernandez is hiding another woman in his house and doesn't want me to see her, right?""
Joseph's face turned ashen. This foolish woman had crossed the line. ""Do I owe you any explanations? Know your place!"" he snapped.
With a sharp click, he slammed the door shut.
Stunned, Luna stood outside, unable to comprehend the shift in Joseph's behavior. He used to dote on her. He had picked her out from a crowd of ladies, as if struck by love at first sight. How had things changed so abruptly?
Indeed, it must be the temptress inside who had bewitched Joseph.
...
After double-locking the door, Joseph immediately called Walter, instructing him to find someone to change the locks.
As soon as he hung up, Cassie descended the stairs, wearing his oversized shirt and pajama pants, which made her petite, delicate figure look even more attractive.
Joseph raised an eyebrow, admiring how a woman could make men's clothes look alluring.
Cautiously navigating the steps, Cassie's baggy pajama pants suddenly slid to the floor. In a few seconds of confusion, she scrambled to pull them up.
Before she could, Joseph swept her off her feet and onto the couch. ""You did that on purpose.""
""No, it's just that your pajama pants are too big,"" Cassie replied, on the verge of tears. But remembering Luna was outside, she pushed him away with discomfort. ""Enough. If you want a woman, your girlfriend is outside.""
""Are you out of your mind?"" Joseph scoffed, his velvety voice tinged with disgust. ""A woman like you is just a plaything.
Cassie's eyes widened. She thought facing his official girlfriend was embarrassing enough, but his shameless words took it to another level.
""Don't look at me like that. You brought this upon yourself,"" Joseph said nonchalantly, twirling a lock of her hair by her ear as though toying with it.
Cassie's heart sank, realizing Joseph wanted to toy with her. ""Wasn't last night's humiliation enough?""
""I don’t think so."" Joseph released her hair, stood up straight, and said, ""From now on, when I say show up, you'll do it immediately. Otherwise, please don't blame me for releasing the video. Whether you continue to exist in J City or not is up to your sincerity.""
The color drained from Cassie's face.
Whenever she thought about going back to Madison, she would remember the deceased Isabella, the currently struggling Vera, and her daughter—it was something she couldn't bring herself to do.
Noticing her silence, Joseph sneered, ""It seems your feelings for David aren't all that strong, especially when weighed against the riches and status of the Chapman family.""
""Are you done?"" Cassie retorted coldly. ""Joseph, the thing I regret most is approaching you that night in the bar.""
