Chapter 1427 Laura Took Maeve Away
In the villa, Laura was half-heartedly playing with Maeve when she got a Facebook message from Derek: [I've already convinced my parents. Don't worry; you can do whatever you want.]
She was taken aback for a moment.
A warm feeling seemed to melt Laura's icy heart, making her eyes a bit misty.
After a bit, she replied: [Thank you.]
Early in the morning, Michael drove back, but the master bedroom was locked, so he crashed in the guest room.
When Michael woke up the next day, his knees were killing him.
But he still got up early to whip up a hearty breakfast.
When Laura came downstairs, she caught a whiff of breakfast on the table and saw Michael's eager look. A hint of sarcasm flashed in her mind.
In the past, she fell for Michael's tricks, thinking he was a good guy to settle down with.
Now she thought, 'Does cooking make someone a good man?'
Had her standards really been lowered that much by Benjamin?
"Honey, it's been a night; don't be mad anymore. Look, I made your favorite corn fritters and pancakes," Michael said, looking pitiful.
Michael was good-looking, and when he blinked those eyes, most people would feel sorry for him.
Laura sat down and started eating.
Even though she hated him, she wasn't about to starve herself.
After all, she needed energy to fight.
Seeing her eat, Michael was thrilled. He thought Laura wasn't mad anymore, so he sat next to her and said, "Honey, my knees are killing me. Yesterday, my grandpa called me over and kicked me hard in the stomach, making me kneel until midnight."
"And then?" Laura asked, curious.
"Then I came back," Michael joked, "Laura, I really don't know how you have such charm. Clearly, I'm my grandpa's biological grandson, but he always sides with you. You don't know how angry he was. Luckily, I promised him that I would definitely send Megan away in two weeks, and he calmed down a bit. He told me to cherish you and live a good life."
Listening to his words, Laura felt so disgusted that she completely lost her appetite.
Laura was also utterly desperate.
So he kept Megan around, and Eric just made him kneel for a few hours?
Would someone as shrewd as Eric really believe Megan would willingly be sent away?
Would James and Caroline not understand?
They might just have reluctantly accepted that there was no other way. At that time, Laura would be Michael's wife, and Megan would be Michael's mistress outside.
Fortunately, Derek had already analyzed it for Laura yesterday. Don't be fooled by the Jude Family being good to Laura. Whenever she and Michael quarreled, they always sided with Laura, but they were all cunning people. The Family's interests would always come first.
"Honey, I've been lying to you recently. It's my fault. I promise I won't go to Megan's place recently. Today, I'll drive you and Maeve to a nearby resort for a few days," Michael said enthusiastically.
"No." Laura put down her fork, "You go to work."
"Don't be like this. Let's go relax," Michael came to hold her small hand.
But Laura pulled her hand back and went upstairs with a cold expression.
Michael watched her go, feeling unhappy.
Thea tried to comfort him, "Women need a few days to cool off, especially after a big fight like you two had yesterday. Give it some time."
"Is that so," Michael said, feeling a bit more at ease.
He had planned to stay home, but then Aaron called, saying there was a document that needed his signature.
Figuring there wasn't much to do at home anyway, he decided to head to work.
As soon as Michael got to the office, he got a call from Thea: "Mr. Jude, Mrs. Brooks came over to help Mrs. Jude pack, and then Mrs. Jude left with her luggage and Maeve. She said she wouldn't be coming back."
Michael was stunned. He quickly tried calling Cassie, but found he was blocked. The same happened when he tried Laura.
Panic set in.
Every time he and Laura fought, she had left home a few times. Each time, she went to stay at Riverside Blossom.
He knew the gate code for Riverside Blossom.
Worst case, he could move there too. As long as Laura and Maeve were there, it didn't matter where they lived.
He signed the document at work and then rushed to Riverside Blossom.
But when he got there, it was empty.
He guessed Laura had moved to the Hernandez House and drove there.
But the guard at the gate stopped him.
"Don't you recognize me? I used to come here often. Open the gate; I'm here to see my wife," Michael said to the guard.
The guard looked uncomfortable, "Mr. Jude, Mr. Hernandez said he has nothing to do with you anymore and told me not to let you in."
Michael glared, "Joseph must be crazy. Is it worth it to him to do this over some women's quarrel? Open the gate; I need to talk to Joseph."
"Please don't make it difficult for me," the guard said helplessly, "Your wife didn't come here."
"Impossible, Laura didn't go home. Cassie is her good friend. If Laura didn't come here, where else in Whisperlyn City could she go?" Michael didn't believe it.
"If you don't believe me, you can check for yourself," the guard said, closing the window, clearly done with the conversation.
Michael angrily said, "Tell Joseph that since he didn't let me in today, he can forget about entering the Jude Mansion next time."
After that, Michael drove off in a huff.
If Laura didn't come here, could she have gone back to Silverwood?
Michael quickly dialed Rose's number, "How have you been lately? Do you want to come to Whisperlyn City for a visit? Laura misses you."
"Forget it," Rose said coldly, "After all, Laura might not have anything to do with you anymore."
Michael froze. Had Laura already told her parents?
"Laura and I just had a little disagreement."
"A little disagreement?" Rose was angry, "So in your eyes, this is just a little disagreement. Now I understand why Laura insists on divorcing you."
Insists?
Michael felt uneasy.
He thought Laura would at least calm down a bit after a night, and that her leaving home was just like before—something he could easily coax her back from.
"It's really a misunderstanding. I love Laura. We've talked about divorce a few times, but it always came to nothing," Michael pleaded, "Please talk to her. For Maeve's sake, we can't let this family fall apart."
