Chapter 724
At that moment, Joseph felt like his heart was being squeezed by a hand.
He couldn't describe the feeling; he just really liked Sophia, and he wanted to pick the moon from the sky for her. But she was Liam's daughter, and Liam was the person he liked the least since childhood.
But if Joseph's children were still here, they might be just as lovely.
Joseph took out a black bank card from his wallet and placed it in Sophia's hand. "This is for you."
Mabel's eyes widened in shock. She never expected Joseph to be kind to Liam's daughter, especially since Joseph was usually indifferent to every one.
"What's this? Walter gave me one too, I have Walter's, that's enough for me." Sophia pushed the black card back. "I can't accept it."
Joseph was relieved. It seemed like her mother had raised her well. "It's okay. This is from me, but it carries a different meaning."
"Sophia, just keep it; Joseph has plenty of money anyway; don't lose it," Mabel reminded.
Sophia tilted her head and thought for a moment. It was fine; she would keep one for Oliver.
Even though they were unaware of Oliver's existence, having one could help Oliver get a share.
And if she didn't take Joseph's things, wouldn't that mean they were given to Megan?
"Alright." She grabbed Joseph's hand, "Can you go with me to see the cats?"
Mabel thought Joseph would definitely refuse, about to intervene, but to her surprise, Joseph agreed readily, even letting Sophia sit on his shoulders and taking her out to play.
Celeste walked over and said, "If you didn't know the real situation, you'd definitely think they were father and daughter."
"Yeah."
After the party ended, it was already late.
Joseph stayed overnight at the mansion. He had rarely visited in the past three years because the villa held too many traces of Cassie's life.
That night, he slept in the bedroom, probably because he kept thinking about the two children he had lost, he couldn't sleep.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.
When he got up to open the door, Sophia stood at the door in cute bear pajamas, rubbing her eyes pitifully. "Can I sleep with you?"
"You can sleep with Liam," Joseph said softly.
"I don't like sleeping with him, and he snores so loudly," Sophia said pitifully.
"Okay." Joseph bent down and picked her up.
On the bed, Sophia lay on him like a little turtle and soon fell asleep.
Joseph looked at her. It was like a blur, but he heard Sophia mumble "daddy" under her breath.
Joseph felt a pang of bitterness.
Perhaps he was at an age where he really should have a family because now he envied Liam for having such a lovely daughter.
Unconsciously, he fell asleep, too.
When he woke up again, someone was pulling his eyelashes, and he could hear the laughter of a child in his ear. He opened his eyes and saw the child on him, looking puzzled.
"What's this?" Sophia suddenly took out a red diamond necklace and waved it in front of him.
Joseph was puzzled, so he took it and looked at it. It was a very valuable red diamond necklace.
It felt familiar, but he couldn't remember. "Where did you get this from?"
"There was a small box in that cabinet with lots of numbers on it. I randomly turned it, and it opened," Sophia lied. In fact, she entered Cassie's birthday numbers.
But she didn't expect it to open, indicating that Cassie had lived in this room before.
