Chapter 236
"Andrew and Charlotte rapidly closed the distance between them and their quarry. Andrew's countenance was contorted in fury, his eyes burning with a rage that suggested he could throttle Cassie on the spot.
Quick as a flash, Joseph positioned himself between Cassie and the approaching duo, his towering stature radiating an aura of dominance and protection.
""Did you disseminate that video, Cassie?"" Andrew's voice thundered, his anger overriding his usually calm demeanor. ""You've really outdone yourself this time. If I don't make you answer for this, then my name isn't Sullivan.""
Charlotte, her agitation matching Andrew's, chimed in, ""Do you even comprehend the magnitude of what you've done? That's Richard in the video you've been spreading around. Even with his face obscured, he won't let this slide.""
Cassie's eyebrow arched in a silent challenge, her smile bright and unyielding. ""Did it ever occur to you to wonder where I acquired that video? Who handed it to me? Or did you presume I had the audacity to record something in Richard's private quarters?""
Her words struck Andrew and Charlotte like a cold wind, freezing them in their tracks. After a moment, Andrew shook his head in disbelief. ""Impossible. That video couldn't have originated from Mr. Hernandez. You're on his blacklist; he'd rip you to shreds. Did you hack his phone? Fine, I'm contacting his assistant right now. And just so you know, his assistant is a member of the prestigious Jones family.""
""Be my guest,"" Cassie retorted, her voice icy. ""Perhaps you're not aware, but Richard departed from Madison this morning.""
Her laughter was light and breezy, carrying an undertone of triumph. ""Didn't your beloved girlfriend inform you? This morning, Richard made an appearance at Peace Group. He declared he won't be causing a scene about last night's incident. However, he did give the Roberts—father and daughter—a hard time. Now the entire office is buzzing with the scandalous news that Olivia slept her way to the top. They're too mortified to even show their faces at work.""
Andrew was incredulous. ""Don't feed me that nonsense; it's utterly implausible.""
Nonetheless, he dialed Richard's assistant. After several attempts, the call connected, only for Andrew to be greeted with a barrage of expletives. ""Andrew, you have the audacity to call me after the mess you've created? I've lost my job because of you.""
""What transpired?"" Andrew asked, his voice filled with confusion.
""I'm as clueless as you are, but you and that dimwit Olivia have seriously angered Mr. Hernandez. He's already returned to New York.""
The call ended abruptly, leaving Andrew stunned. He turned to face Cassie, who was grinning from ear to ear, an icy chill running down his spine. ""What did you do to Mr. Hernandez?""
""Guess,"" Cassie challenged, her voice brimming with satisfaction. ""He was in a vulnerable position, and I had the upper hand. Andrew, I had no intention of targeting you, but you just had to introduce Olivia to Richard.""
""Now, your reputation is in tatters. Your chances of socializing with the Jones family or finding a suitable wife are significantly diminished. Good luck with that fantasy.""
With that, Cassie sauntered off, her arm linked with Joseph's, leaving Andrew and Charlotte in the dust.
Left in the aftermath, Charlotte clutched her head, letting out a shrill scream, ""How could this have happened?!""
""It's all that damn Olivia's fault. That fool has made a mockery of me."" Hatred surged in Andrew's eyes. ""I won't let her get away with this.""
The journey home was silent, the air thick with tension. Joseph's lips were a thin line, his chiseled profile resembling a sculpture carved from ice.
Stealing a glance at him, Cassie pouted, her finger curling around his on the steering wheel. ""Are you still upset? I really didn't have a choice this time. Just the thought of seeing Richard, that jerk, makes me want to vomit. All I want right now is to go home and cleanse my eyes... with you.""
""Do you want to see mine?"" Joseph's deep voice broke the silence, his gaze meeting hers.
Cassie fell silent. Could she admit it was merely a slip of the tongue?
But to reassure him, she reluctantly nodded, feigning bashfulness.
""Alright, tonight,"" Joseph surprisingly agreed.
Cassie was taken aback—hadn't he always been on his guard around her as if she were a dangerous seductress?
Rubbing his temples, Joseph issued a mild warning, ""If this ever happens again...""
""There won't be a next time,"" Cassie promised, raising her hand as if swearing an oath. ""If there is, may I be punished by never laying eyes on your perfect physique again.""
""Enough."" Joseph couldn't help but chuckle, despite his irritation. ""Do you still have that video on your phone? Once we get home, I'm deleting every single one. Richard is a pervert.""
""I concur. I only watched a bit, but it made me nauseous,"" Cassie confessed, grimacing. ""Joey, you don't have any strange fetishes like that, do you?""
