Chapter 1340 You Need to Find a New Lover
Cassie was so hyped she couldn't catch a wink. It wasn't until after 3 a.m. that she finally crashed.
Next morning, her two kids jolted her awake.
She groggily opened her eyes and saw a tall, handsome dude in the room. Rocking blue jeans and a white shirt, he looked like he was in his twenties, oozing that noble charm that made her heart skip a beat.
Cassie blinked in confusion, rubbed her eyes, and thought she might still be dreaming. 'How the heck is Joseph in my bedroom, braiding Sophia's hair?' she wondered.
Sophia was sitting unusually still in a chair while Joseph, holding a comb, bent over and carefully braided her hair.
"You're pretty good at this, better than my mom," Sophia said, checking herself out in the mirror. "Put that pink headband on me, please."
"Alright, my little princess."
Joseph felt like a hairstylist until a scream from behind made him turn around. Cassie was gaping at him.
She had just woken up, her hair a mess but still looking pretty. She was wearing cotton pajamas that had slipped off one shoulder, showing a lot of skin, and it was clear she wasn't wearing anything underneath.
Joseph felt his body heat up after just one glance.
He quickly took a deep breath and tried to chill.
"What are you doing here?" Cassie, totally unaware of how enticing she looked, stared at him in disbelief. "Joseph, this is my room. Who let you in? Where's my dad?"
"He had already left for work when I got here. The nanny let me in," Joseph blinked, looking all innocent. "I wanted to take the kids to preschool, but when I came in, I saw you were still out cold and the kids were already up. I noticed Sophia wasn't great at brushing her teeth, so I helped her out, and then I braided her hair. Right, Sophia?"
He looked down at Sophia.
Sophia nodded, completely oblivious to the awkward vibe in the room, still admiring herself in the mirror. "Mommy, do I look pretty today?"
Cassie twitched her mouth. 'Couldn't Sophia be a bit smarter? Is this the time to focus on her own beauty?' she thought.
His comment about her "out cold" made Cassie feel so embarrassed.
As a mom, her kids were awake while she was still snoozing.
"Yes," she responded half-heartedly to Sophia, then angrily said to Joseph, "But you can't just barge into my room. We're divorced. I'm single now."
'Does he know how hard it is for me to become a single, divorced woman?' she thought.
Joseph raised an eyebrow. "I thought we were pretty familiar with each other, considering we have kids together."
Cassie angrily shot back, "It's precisely because we have kids that we need to keep our distance. Otherwise, people might think there's something between us, which wouldn't be good for me finding a new partner."
"You want to find a new partner?" Joseph's lips curled into a knowing smile.
For some reason, Cassie felt a bit scared seeing his smile. She glared at him, "What's it to you?"
"I'm not interfering, just asking."
Joseph turned back and continued braiding Sophia's hair.
Sophia wasn't dumb, but she played it cool. No matter who Mommy ended up with, Joseph was still her dad.
Might as well milk this for all it's worth.
"Look how pretty you are. Our Sophia's gonna be the most beautiful little princess at preschool today," Joseph grinned, making Sophia light up.
Joseph even helped Sophia change her clothes.
Then he took the two kids downstairs for breakfast.
For once, Cassie didn't have to wrangle the little ones in the morning. She stared blankly for a bit, then flopped back down and went back to sleep.
With Joseph handling the kids, she wasn't gonna miss the chance to let him handle the hard stuff. She wasn't dumb.
She decided to rest when she needed to rest; no need to carry the load all by herself.
Once Cassie figured that out, she dozed off again.
When she woke up, it was already 11 a.m.
She got up and checked her phone.
As expected, tonight's news was all about David and Marigold, with seven or eight hot topics blowing up: [The Wit Group's pharmaceuticals fail quality standards, banned in 123 countries], [David arrested for bribery investigation], [David suspected of kidnapping], [David, Robert, Helen, and Olivia involved in a $900 billion fraud], [David suspected of murdering his nephew, with his sister Kathleen submitting related evidence], [David and Ralph suspected of endangering national security], [Ralph's family arrested for endangering national security].
The news hit like a bomb this morning, shaking not just Madison but other countries too.
Online chatter was off the charts.

[David's finally been caught. I'm thrilled. After seeing his scandal with his secretary, I was disgusted. It's shocking that he became Madison's richest person; seems he's just a fraudster. If our economy was led by someone like him, it would collapse in no time.]
