Chapter 1769 Lucas Felt Dizzy with Pain

"Mr. Nelson, didn't you tell me to keep at least ten feet away from you?" Bernice reminded him with a smirk.

"Well, now I'm allowing you to be within two feet," Lucas replied, trying to sound all grand and important.

Bernice couldn't help but laugh out loud, as if she had heard a very absurd joke.

There was a brief silence on the other end of the line before Lucas's voice came through, cold and warning, "I believe the sugar daddy you found wouldn't dare go against my orders."

"Then go find my sugar daddy, have a nice chat with him, and send him my way," Bernice shot back before hanging up.

Lucas stared at his phone, disbelief flashing in his eyes.

Did she really just hang up on him?

Did she think he couldn't handle her?

Lucas quickly called his subordinate, "Find out who Bernice's sugar daddy is. I want answers within a day."

He was curious to see what kind of guy she had found that made her so bold.

Lucas had a hunch it might be Gary.

Eighteen hours later, his subordinate reported back, "Mr. Nelson, I couldn't find any sugar daddy around Ms. Ramsey."

"Are you sure you looked thoroughly?" Lucas was skeptical.

"Absolutely, there's no one. You know I'm good at this," the subordinate replied, sounding a bit hurt. "But I did find out that Ms. Ramsey moved to Sunset Valley Estates."

Lucas knew that place. The housing prices weren't as high as the city center, but a villa there still cost a few million dollars.

Had Bernice really made that much money in just a few years in the entertainment industry? Or did Gray buy it for her?Lucas let out a cold laugh. No wonder she always complained that he didn't buy her a house or a car, and no wonder she had previously tried to kill herself over Gary.

"Are you sure she doesn't have a sugar daddy?" Lucas asked again. "No contact with Gary?"

"None," the subordinate confirmed.

"Send me her address," Lucas ordered.

Soon, Bernice's new address was sent over. After finishing his shift at the hospital, Lucas drove straight to Sunset Valley Estates.

When he got to the gate, he rang the doorbell, but no one answered.Lucas tried calling Bernice, only to find out she had blocked his number.

Lucas laughed in frustration.

Eyeing the three-foot-high wall, he decided to climb over it.

As he landed, a bear trap hidden in the bushes snapped shut on his foot.

The intense pain made Lucas scream. Even with his high pain tolerance, he almost passed out.

"Bernice, get out here!" Lucas yelled, collapsing in the bushes, his face pale.

"Who's making all that noise and disturbing my nap?"

The sliding door on the second floor opened, and Bernice, dressed in silk pajamas, lazily stretched as she stepped out.

When she saw Lucas writhing in pain in the bushes, she rubbed her eyes in disbelief. "Mr. Nelson, why are you sneaking into my house?"

"Bernice, are you insane? Setting bear traps at home? Get down here and open it," Lucas was sweating from the pain. Every time he tried to bend down to pry open the trap, the pain intensified, making it impossible to exert any force. Blood was already seeping from his foot.

"Alright, alright, I'm coming down."

Bernice responded quickly but couldn't help but almost burst out laughing once inside. The bear trap was supposed to keep intruders out, but she never thought it would catch Lucas.

She took her sweet time changing clothes and then headed downstairs. Lucas, already fuming, saw her in a fresh outfit and nearly lost it. "You had time to change clothes? Bernice, are you messing with me?"

"Mr. Nelson, you can't blame me. I wasn't wearing any underwear before. What if you thought I was trying to seduce you?" Bernice said innocently, glancing at his wound. "How do you want me to help you?"

"We'll pry it open together. You pull one side, I'll pull the other," Lucas panted, clearly in pain.

"Sure thing," Bernice nodded right away.

She bent down, using all her strength to help Lucas.

Throughout the process, Lucas's face turned pale from the pain. Just as they managed to pry it open a bit, Bernice deliberately let go and fell to the ground. "I really don't have any strength left."

The bear trap snapped shut again, and Lucas screamed in agony, his foot now a bloody mess.

"Bernice, you're asking for it," Lucas was dizzy from the pain. If he weren't in so much pain, he would have strangled Bernice.

"Mr. Nelson, it's not my fault. The bear trap is too tight; I can't open it. I think I should call the fire department."

Bernice, barely containing her laughter, took out her phone and called the fire department.

Lucas felt she was doing it on purpose and didn't want her help anymore. If she kept messing around, his foot might end up permanently damaged.

He decided to endure the pain and wait for the firefighters.

"Call an ambulance too," he said, not even bothering to put his glasses back on, tossing them aside roughly.

His handsome face was pale, but his lips were vividly red.

Even in pain, Lucas looked exceptionally dignified and noble.

Any other woman would have felt sorry for him, but Bernice calmly played games on her phone.

"You still have the mood to play games?" Lucas was almost furious.

Once he recovered, he was definitely going to deal with Bernice.

"This is a game I endorse. Sometimes I need to level up. Making money isn't easy," Bernice said without looking up. "It's actually quite fun. Do you want to play?"

Lucas, gasping in pain, snarled, "Get lost."

"Mr. Nelson, that's a bit much. I was just trying to distract you with the game," Bernice stood up, brushing the grass off her pants. "Alright, since you don't want me to distract you, I'll go inside."

"Stop right there," Lucas's pale face was filled with menace. "Bernice, setting bear traps at home is illegal. Now that I'm injured, you're responsible, understand?"

"If I'm breaking the law, I'm willing to pay the fine," Bernice shrugged. "Don't worry, I'll cover your medical expenses and compensation for emotional distress. But Mr. Nelson, isn't it also illegal to break into my house without permission?"

Their gazes clashed silently in the air.

For the first time, Lucas lost.

Because he was in too much pain, he couldn't even think about why Bernice had become so combative.

Ten minutes later, the fire truck arrived.

Bernice opened the gate, letting the firefighters in to free Lucas. Then the ambulance arrived and took him to the hospital.

As for Bernice, she had no intention of accompanying him.

She called Max to inform him.

Max was dumbfounded, "You mean Mr. Nelson climbed your wall, got caught in a bear trap, and was sent to the hospital?"
