Chapter 1711 Calm and Peaceful Communication
Julia looked up, facing the anger on his handsome face, speechless and helpless, "Who exactly is bullying whom, Elliott? Be reasonable."
Elliott, who was angry a moment ago, immediately froze when he met her tired eyes.
"I admit, I went too far that day, but I thought..."
"You thought I did something to betray you, right?"
Julia interrupted him, "When you were driving my car, you answered a call from Garth, didn't you? You thought I lied to you, that I went to his house for dinner that night, and maybe even did something with him."
Elliott was momentarily speechless; he indeed thought that way.
"Elliott, do you know, I used to think that as long as I married you, we lived together every day, and we had a child in the future, one day we would go back to how we were. But I overlooked that we no longer have trust between us. You simply don't believe me. You even concluded that because I broke up with you once, I must be a promiscuous woman."
Sadness appeared in Julia's eyes, "In the future, every time you don't trust me, will you treat me like you did that day? Honestly, I'm scared. I'm afraid of the pain, afraid of having to endure the pain and drive myself to get stitches, afraid of being asked at the hospital if I want to call the police."
Elliott was deeply embarrassed. "I'm sorry."
If it were before, he might not have believed what she said at all.
But after talking with Alphonse and Derek, he understood that he shouldn't just blame her.
Julia looked at him in surprise, probably not expecting him to apologize.
"I promise you, such things will never happen again." Elliott had deeply reflected on it. Whether Julia betrayed him or not, he shouldn't have done that.
Maybe every time he faced Julia, he easily lost his cool.
He even started to hate himself.
Julia was once again surprised, not knowing what to say for a moment.
But Elliott had thought it through, "We do lack trust between us, but think about it, we've been apart for so many years, and we've changed in many ways. I don't know the current you, and you don't know the current me. Arguments are inevitable, but I can promise you, if we argue next time, I will never hurt you again. Of course, if you betray me again, I won't be angry or hate you, because there's no need. By then, we'll divorce and live our own lives."
Last night, he thought about it all night.
He figured some things out.
To say he didn't love Julia anymore, he knew that wasn't true. Matters of the heart can deceive others, but not oneself.
Just like the night before last, when she was about to leave with her luggage, he lost control because he couldn't bear to let her go.
Alphonse's words made him fully awake. Even if Julia hadn't broken up with him back then, would they have had a future?
Not.
The gap between their statuses was too big at that time.
He was too young and too proud back then, and he might not have been able to hold on.
Derek's words also made him understand that Julia had always been trying to get closer to him. Whether it was out of love or just nostalgia for their unfinished first love, since they got married, it meant their story wasn't over.
Plus, they were both not young anymore. Instead of this, why not try living together?
Julia fell completely silent.
This was the first time since their reunion that they had a calm conversation.
It almost made her think Elliott was possessed by some spirit.
"I lied to you that day, saying I wanted to go back to my place, not because of Garth."
After a long while, Julia suddenly spoke, "I just wanted to rest that day, didn't want to make love with you, too tired, I couldn't handle it, and you always say unpleasant things in bed."
After saying that, she turned her face towards the window, feeling a bit awkward. Even though she was usually a strong woman, she felt embarrassed talking about sex, otherwise, she wouldn't have kept it to herself.
Elliott was stunned.
After processing her words, his ears turned red with embarrassment.
Thinking about it, he realized he was quite shameless.
He said he looked down on her, but his body was more honest than anything. But he had his pride; he couldn't admit he coveted her body, so he had to blame her.
"I'll be more mindful next time."
After a long while, he said awkwardly.
His sudden change in attitude made Julia feel uncomfortable, like something was off.
She stood up, "I'm going to work."
Elliott instinctively grabbed her wrist. "You're like this, can't you rest at home today?"
"No, there's a project meeting today." Julia said seriously, "The Jude family has too many subsidiaries and branches. I have a lot to handle every day, and everyone is waiting for me."
"But your body..."
"Since I became a company leader, I have to take responsibility." Julia's delicate face was full of determination.
Elliott pursed his thin lips, "I'll take you then."
Julia gave him a complicated look, her pink lips moved slightly, but she said nothing in the end.
When changing shoes at the door, Elliott opened the shoe cabinet and took out a pair of running shoes, placing them in front of her."Wear these today."
Julia's beautiful face twisted a bit. "Does this outfit go with these shoes?"
Elliott's gaze lingered on her dress. "What's wrong with it?"
Without waiting for her response, he bent down and put her feet into the white running shoes.
Julia looked at his bent back, dazed for a few seconds.
She remembered the first time they made love; she was in so much pain, and the next day he also personally put her shoes on.
In the blink of an eye, so much time had passed, and she didn't expect there would be another day like this.
But then again, maybe she was too soft-hearted.
Thinking of this, Julia frowned.
When Elliott stood up, he saw her expression and thought she was dissatisfied. He said, "You said it hurt. You women love beauty so much. What's wrong with wearing sneakers to work? They look good and are comfortable. I see you have too few flat shoes in your shoe cabinet. How about I go with you to buy a few pairs of flat shoes?"
"No need, I won't be in pain in a few days." Julia refused. Wearing high heels gave her more presence, especially for a woman in the workplace.
Elliott: "Who knows if you'll be sore again the next day?"
Julia's pretty face suddenly turned red.
Elliott glanced at her, and seeing her blush, an inappropriate thought flashed through his mind.
He secretly clenched his fists.
"Shut up," Julia warned, giving him a look.
That kind of look would scare anyone in the company, but for Elliott, it only made him raise an eyebrow.
