Chapter 41 Embarrass oneself in public
She thought to herself, 'What if Felix exposes the bribery? What should I do then?'
"Mom," she looked at Helen in a panic.
Helen gently patted her shoulder to comfort her. "Don't worry. Your dad will find a way."
"Even if we can smooth things over, Height Architectural Decoration Company's reputation will take a huge hit," Robert said irritably.
Helen glared at him. "It has nothing to do with Olivia. Someone is targeting Felix."
"I didn't mean to blame her."
Just as Robert finished speaking, the general manager suddenly rushed in and said, "Mr. Brooks, about the Titan Stadium construction project we had previously agreed on, the organizers just called to say they won't be working with us. Also, Elysian International Hotel said they won't consider us anymore."
Robert was so angry he felt dizzy. These were major projects that Height Architectural Decoration Company had been eyeing for the past two years, and they were almost finalized.
The general manager continued, "Also, the company's application to exhibit at the Solandria World Expo was explicitly rejected. Mr. Brooks, did we offend someone? This clearly looks like someone is targeting our company."
Robert's body swayed. All of these projects were crucial to his plan to lead Height Architectural Decoration Company into the international market, and now it was all ruined. He replied, "I've been cautious in the business world for decades and have never offended anyone."
"Could it be Cassie?" Olivia hesitantly suggested. "Don't get me wrong. I don't mean to blame her. It's just that incident at Citrus Diner a while ago. Charlotte and Sarah were really upset and said they wouldn't let it go."
"It must be related to her," Helen said angrily. "Even if it's not because of the Citrus Diner incident, it shows how arrogant she usually is outside."
"Call her back," Robert said with a grim expression.
"Mr. Brooks," the general manager hesitated. "Last night, some unsavory footage was live-streamed, and the female lead happened to be Ms. Cassie Brooks. The stream was cut off because the police raided the place and arrested those people. The police deleted all the videos circulating online, and they issued a statement saying she was undercover for them."
Olivia exclaimed, "That's too dangerous! She's not a cop; how could she go undercover?"
Helen was furious. "Undercover, my foot! She probably got herself into trouble, and the police had to save her. It's disgraceful."
The general manager added, "Yes, that's the word going around. Now, all the groups are talking about Ms. Cassie Brooks' private life. Her reputation is pretty much ruined."
Robert was livid. He grabbed a vase from the table and smashed it hard. "Find a way to bring her back. Don't let her embarrass us out there."
At the hospital, Cassie was discharged after two days.
Joseph personally came to pick her up, making Cassie feel flattered.
However, after driving for a while, they didn't head back to Emerald Bay; instead, they arrived at a supermarket parking lot.
With a calm and collected expression, Joseph said, "You haven't been home to cook these past few days. Dakota is very picky and has a poor appetite. Buy more ingredients and make something good for it."
Cassie looked at his elegant and noble face, seriously doubting whether it was Dakota who was picky or him.
"What are you standing there for? Hurry up and go." He had had enough of the awful food Nathaniel had been bringing over these past few days.
Cassie had to unbuckle her seat belt and get out of the car. He had helped her this time, and she had planned to cook a good meal to thank him anyway.
As she walked towards the supermarket, she thought of more than ten dishes, plus Dakota's recipes.
