Chapter 1677 Sometimes Laura Is Really Shameless
In the evening, at the Miller family villa, Laura had just driven into the parking lot and immediately noticed Derek's black car parked there as well.
She was taken aback and hurried into the house, finding Derek in the living room playing with Maeve, who was giggling happily.
"What are you doing here?" She asked, puzzled. They had spent the whole morning together, and when he dropped her off at work in the afternoon, he hadn't mentioned anything about coming over.
"Rose asked me to come, and I wanted to see Maeve too." Derek said with a smile, tickling Maeve's chin.
Usually, when Maeve saw Laura come home, she would immediately reach out for Laura to hold her. But today, Maeve was completely focused on Derek and didn't even look at Laura.
Feeling a bit jealous, Laura pinched Maeve's little cheek. "Don't you miss Mommy?"
"Mommy," Maeve suddenly called out.
Laura was stunned. This was the first time Maeve had called her that. She urged, "Maeve, say Mommy again, please. Say it one more time."
Maeve blinked her big eyes, turned her head away, and suddenly ignored Laura.
Laura felt a bit disappointed. Derek comforted her, "Don't worry. She's still so young. It's already great that she said it once."
"You're right. I'll go tell my mom."
Laura left them and went to the kitchen to find Rose. "Mom, Maeve just called me 'Mommy.'"
"Maeve has been saying more words lately. She's definitely going to be an early talker." Rose said as she washed vegetables and glanced outside. "Derek came over early this afternoon to be with Maeve. I've been watching him for a while; he's very patient."
Hearing Derek being praised put Laura in a good mood, but she still said, "Mom, why did you call him over again?"
Rose gave Laura a look. "So you don't always run off to his place and not come back at night."
Thinking about the lie she told yesterday, Laura's face flushed. Her legs were still sore from their intense lovemaking from yesterday to today.
"Mom, you should call him less often. He has exams next month and needs to study," Laura advised her mother. "Once he passes, he'll be going to school for his PhD."
"He's diligent. He should study more." Rose said, taking it to heart.
Around dinner time, Elliott and his father came back from the company.
As they sat around the round table for dinner, Rose glanced at Laura, Derek, and Maeve. Even though they weren't married yet, they looked like a family of three, and Derek was very patient, making for a pleasing sight.
Then she looked at Elliott, who was eating silently, and her face darkened. Suddenly, she asked, "Elliott, be honest with me. Do you not like women?"
Elliott almost choked on his food. After coughing several times, his stern face twitched slightly.
Laura almost laughed out loud. "Yeah, Elliott, our family is pretty open-minded. If you like men, you can just say it. I can introduce you to a quality young man."
Luke snorted, "You're overthinking it. Your parents aren't that open-minded."
Elliott shot Laura a warning look. "Don't talk nonsense."
Shouldn't Laura know whether he liked men or not?
Laura shrugged.
Rose put down her fork and said seriously, "Laura isn't wrong. Look at you, you're thirty and still don't have a girlfriend. Every time I set you up on a date, you meet the girl a few times and then nothing happens. Are you really not planning to get married? If you keep delaying, no matter how good your conditions are, women with similar backgrounds won't consider you. They'll think there's something wrong with you."
Elliott's handsome face tightened. "I don't care."
"I care," Rose said sternly. "Look at Laura. She has a child and a boyfriend. You should learn from her. Laura got divorced and found someone new faster than you. If she gets married again and you still don't have a girlfriend, what then?"
Elliott pressed his sharp lips together and remained silent.
Whenever the topic of finding a girlfriend came up, he was always silent at home.
Rose was angry. "I don't care. By summer, you must have a girlfriend. If you like men, I can't stop you from being happy, but you must have a child."
Elliott remained silent.
"Elliott, look at what you've driven Mom to," Laura said, glancing at Elliott.
"Sweetheart, have some fish," Derek said, placing a piece of fish on her plate.
Laura took a sweet bite, then suddenly looked upset. "Derek, you didn't remove all the bones. What do you mean by that?"
"I did," Derek said, leaning over to check and quickly apologizing. "I missed some. Be careful."
Laura huffed.
Rose was speechless. She didn't know Laura could be so fussy. She hoped Laura wouldn't make Derek fussy too.
Rose thought about how both her son and daughter were quite a handful.
Luke scolded, "Derek is already being nice by giving you food. Don't make such a fuss."
He paused and then added, "Maybe it's because you're so fussy that Elliott is scared to find a girlfriend."
Rose didn't give Laura a chance to speak. "Elliott, your sister is an exception. You still have to believe in love."
Laura looked wronged. "I'm really innocent. Elliott not finding a girlfriend is—"
"I'm full," Elliott suddenly said, standing up and leaving.
Everyone was stunned. Laura's mouth was slightly open, forgetting what she was about to say.
Until Derek tugged her hand under the table.
Rose sighed. "Elliott has always been so cold. Who knows what he's thinking."
Luke hadn't forgotten what Laura was about to say. "Laura, do you know why Elliott doesn't have a girlfriend?"
"How would I know?" Laura quickly denied. "Maybe it's because he's been looking at a beauty like me all his life, and Cassie is also a beauty. His standards have been raised. The girls Mom introduces are pretty, but compared to me, they're still lacking."
Derek almost laughed. Sometimes Laura could be really shameless.
"Do you think I'm wrong?" Laura raised an eyebrow, looking at him dangerously.
"You're right," Derek quickly nodded. "If you entered a beauty pageant, you'd definitely be the champion."
