Chapter 1032 Crying In His Arms
Arthur was a real looker, but when he died, he was completely burned.
Cassie was totally confused.
'Why would Arthur just be gone like that?'
She didn't love Arthur anymore, but he was her teenage crush. She had loved and hated him.
Even though they were both married to other people now, they still had a friendship.
Hearing about his death, everything blurred before Cassie's eyes.
Suddenly, Kathleen took advantage of a distracted security guard, grabbed a knife from the ground, and lunged at her.
"Cassie, watch out!" Joseph rushed over and pulled her aside.
Seeing Joseph save Cassie, Kathleen cursed, "Cassie, you bitch! You married David and still seduced Arthur and your ex-husband. You're shameless; you'll die in your boots."
Joseph's eyes turned cold. He strode over, disarmed Kathleen, and handed her to the police who had just arrived. "Kathleen attempted murder. You'd better take her away."
When the handcuffs clicked onto Kathleen's wrists, she panicked. "No, I still need to attend Arthur's funeral. I need to say goodbye to him."
Cassie couldn't bear it and stepped forward to speak to the police. "Even though she tried to kill me, I don't want to press charges. She didn't do it on purpose; she just lost her son and misunderstood me, which made her lose control."
The police exchanged glances. "We'll take her back to the station and give her a warning. As long as she admits her mistake and promises not to do it again, we won't pursue it further."
Soon, the police took Kathleen away.
Cassie hurried to the parking lot, calling David as she walked. "I heard something happened to Arthur."
"Yes." David's slightly choked voice came through. "We're at the funeral home. So much happened today that I forgot to tell you."
"I'm coming over now." Cassie opened her car door, but Joseph stopped her from behind.
"You can't drive in this state. Where are you going? I'll take you." Joseph looked at her worriedly. Although she had arrived late, he had a rough idea of what was going on.
"No, I can drive myself." Cassie stubbornly pushed him away.
As Joseph wouldn't let go, she suddenly lost control and started hitting him. "Joseph, let go of me! Get lost!"
Joseph stood still, letting her hit him.
After she had hit him, she suddenly broke down and cried.
Joseph hugged her tightly, gently soothing her back.
Cassie forgot to push him away and cried into his chest. "It's all my fault. He said he wanted to see me. Why did I agree to meet him? If I hadn't agreed, he wouldn't have died. He was so young."
"Don't put all the blame on yourself." As Cassie cried so painfully, Joseph's heart ached. "If he wanted to see you, it must have been important. It's not like you asked him to come."
"But I shouldn't have met him. Knowing all that happened between us, we should have kept our distance." Cassie cried, her face covered in tears. "He called in the morning. When he didn't show up later, I forgot about it. I should have checked on him."
Joseph gently wiped her tears. "Even if you had checked, it wouldn't have changed anything. The accident had already happened by then. I think you don't fully understand the situation yet. You should wait for the investigation results. Are you going to his funeral? I'll take you to the funeral home."
"Okay." Under his gentle comfort, Cassie gradually calmed down.
Yes, she at least needed to find out why Arthur had the accident.
"I'll take you there." Joseph placed her in the passenger seat and fastened her seatbelt.
On the way, Cassie stared out the window in silence, her mind filled with memories of Arthur, feeling more and more distressed.
When they arrived at the funeral home, she said softly, "You should go back. The Foster family might all be there, and it's not appropriate for you to go."
"Okay," Joseph handed her the car keys and said gently, "If you need anything, call me right away. Take care of yourself and don't let anyone bully you."
Cassie nodded absentmindedly, her mind too chaotic to think about anything else.
Inside the funeral home, she saw David with a heavy expression, Kyle who had come from Silverwood, Quentin and members from the Reynold family. Everyone looked sorrowful.
Kayla was pale, like a soulless puppet. Her mother, Debbie Crawford, was wiping away tears. "Kayla just got pregnant, and now Arthur is gone."
Cassie's body trembled, feeling utterly miserable.
Debbie suddenly rushed over and slapped Cassie. "It's you. If Arthur hadn't gone to see you, he wouldn't have died."
Cassie didn't dodge the slap. When Debbie raised her hand for another, David rushed over to stop her, shouting, "Why are you blaming her? The police have investigated. It was a car system failure. We should hold the car manufacturer accountable."
"A car system failure?" Cassie asked, stunned.
"Yes, I checked the surveillance. The car suddenly lost control and accelerated in the last ten seconds," David explained. "Even if Arthur wasn't going to see you, the same problem would have occurred. His car was a newly developed model with a lot of cutting-edge technology, but high-tech cars have had more accidents in recent years."
Cassie looked sorrowful. 'Was Arthur died because of this?'
"And," David added suddenly, "he might have been going to see you for my sake. We had a fight last night, and he probably knew I was in a bad mood, so he wanted to talk to you behind my back. If you want to blame someone, blame me."
Cassie realized that Arthur had said it was important and told her not to tell David.
Kayla looked at David and said hoarsely, "Mom, let it go. It's my bad luck. Let's not dwell on whose fault it is."
Debbie sighed heavily.
Kyle was also heartbroken over losing Arthur, but he still had another son. He didn't want to fall out with David over Arthur, especially since David's status had changed significantly. Kyle needed to stay on good terms with him. So he said, "Let Arthur be cremated soon. Seeing Arthur like this is too painful."
