Chapter 613

Willow Creek Estates

The moment Jan ended his call, a storm of anger brewed within him. He stormed back into the room, his voice echoing with frustration, " Cassie, the directors of the Peace Group are unresponsive. They either don't answer or hang up before I can finish speaking. Carter is the only one who might attend."

Cassie, unfazed by the news, continued to water the flowers on the balcony, a smile playing on her lips. "Carter is as reliable as ever," she responded, her voice light and carefree.

"But Cassie, doesn't this infuriate you?" Jan asked, his brows furrowed in concern.

Cassie shook her head, her expression serene. "There's no need for worry. The board meeting will proceed as scheduled tomorrow. You should head home, Jan. I'm expecting guests later." Her calm demeanor instilled a sense of confidence, and despite her lingering doubts, Jan took his leave.

No sooner had Jan left than Cassie initiated a video call, her screen soon filled with the adorable faces of Austin's two children. "Mama, I miss you so much," Sophia, with her cherubic face and teary eyes, confessed. The sight of chocolate smeared around her mouth, however, drew a sigh from Cassie.

"Sophia, are you trying to convince your godmother to buy you more chocolate?" Cassie teased.

Sophia blinked her innocent eyes, shaking her head vehemently. "No, Mama, you're mistaken. That's too much."

Oliver, ever the observant older brother, rolled his eyes and pointed out, "You didn't even clean the chocolate from your mouth, Sophia."

Startled, Sophia quickly licked her lips, ensuring not a drop of chocolate was wasted. "It wasn't me who ate it," she protested innocently. "Godmother ate the chocolate and then kissed my face."

Cassie couldn't help but sigh at her daughter's antics, wondering how she ended up with such a sweet, little liar. Oliver, on the other hand, was less amused. "Do you think Mama will believe such a silly lie?" he challenged.

Sophia huffed, turning her back on him with a frosty look. "Who's silly? I won't play with you anymore," she declared, effectively ending their sibling squabble.

With Sophia's attention elsewhere, Oliver turned his focus back to Cassie. "Mama, are you doing okay at home? Has that scumbag caused you any trouble? Can you handle everything on your own, or do you need me to come back and help you?" His mature tone was a stark contrast to his sister's, reminding Cassie of a certain someone.

Just as she was about to respond, a loud banging echoed from the door. "Sweetheart, I have something to deal with. We'll talk more tonight. Love you," Cassie quickly ended the call. As she approached the door, it was violently kicked open, and Joseph strode in, his handsome face marred by a cold, resentful glare.

" Cassie, how dare you cause trouble for Megan? You're asking for death," he spat out, his hand reaching out to strangle Cassie. But Cassie was not the same woman she used to be. Like a snake, she swiftly dodged his attack, leaving Joseph momentarily stunned.

His surprise quickly morphed into a sneer. "It seems Athena was right. You have indeed learned some fighting skills over the years. But while you may be able to handle Athena, you're nothing compared to me."
