Chapter 1348 Introducing a New Man
Cassie's phone buzzed right then.
She hit the answer button, and Laura's voice came through, "Cassie, we were supposed to meet at 3:30. Do you even know what time it is now? How could you leave a pregnant woman hanging like this?"
Cassie jolted and checked the time.
They were already more than ten minutes late.
"I'm downstairs now, be right up."
She hung up and quickly shoved the clingy Joseph away. "I'm going shopping with Laura. You go pick up Oliver and Sophia. Stop tailing me."
"Alright."
Joseph really wanted to tag along, feeling a bit miffed that they got interrupted so fast. "How about we grab dinner tonight?"
"Dinner together means I'll have to babysit Sophia again, right? You take care of her and give me a break for a couple of days." Cassie said, striding off with her bag.
Her carefree attitude made Joseph fume.
Did Cassie not feel even a bit bad about leaving him?
Cassie truly didn't feel any guilt; she just wanted to shop and eat.
After finally rushing upstairs, Laura was already waiting with a cup of coffee.
Seeing her arrive, Laura glared, "What took you so long?"
"I went to see David."
Laura's eyes lit up, "I heard David was taken away by Declan. How is he? Is he getting tortured badly? Did he beg for mercy when he saw you?"
Cassie saw her eager expression and briefly described David's miserable state, "I mainly want to drag Megan out. I'm afraid she'll become another Olivia."
"Psychiatrists are supposed to help people, but Megan's playing mind games," Laura also despised Megan, "But David is delusional too. Both of them are equally bad and shouldn't be let off."
"Since Joseph lost his memory, Megan has vanished." Cassie sighed, "But even if Megan shows up, it won't matter. Olivia is dead, and David won't talk, so there's no evidence to nail her."
"Megan probably won't come back knowing David is in deep trouble."
Laura comforted Cassie, "Not every woman can find a backer as scary as Olivia. And Olivia only had a connection with Isabella because of you. Where can Megan find someone more powerful than Declan to seek revenge? It's impossible."
"True." Cassie sighed, "I just feel it's a shame not to avenge Nina's parents."
"Yeah."
Mentioning Nina always brought pain to both of them.
After all, the dead can never be brought back.
"Forget it. We're finally free and out shopping." Laura grabbed her hand, "Come on, you're finally divorced. Dress up nicely, and you can pick from the most handsome and wealthy men in the world. I really envy you. When I was leaving, Michael's mom called me and said some amazing guys want to meet you. Interested?"
Cassie was silent.
"Michael's mom knows a lot of business elites, and she has a good eye for people, unlike my mom, who thinks anyone with decent looks is handsome."
Laura grinned, "And she said the guys she wants to introduce have good character, come from great families, and their parents are like, super in love."
Cassie awkwardly said, "Actually, Joseph and I are kinda getting back together."
"What?" Laura's eyes lit up.
"Chill, don't freak out the baby," Cassie quickly soothed her.
"No way, you told me a few days ago that you and Joseph were done and that his thing with Marigold had nothing to do with you. Now you're saying you're getting back together?"
Laura looked at her, disappointed. "I know Joseph isn't serious about Marigold, but come on, have some self-respect, will you? At least make him sweat for a few months."
Cassie lowered her head, feeling pretty useless. She thought, 'I was so firm in the morning but caved by the afternoon. Joseph's charm and sweet talk are just too much.'
"Forget it." Laura shook her head in frustration, "I had planned to introduce you to some quality guys to make Joseph regret and feel the pain of being tormented."
"Even if I kinda agreed with him, it doesn't stop me from being proud." Cassie tried to regain her dignity.
"You have a point. At least hold out for three days before jumping back into bed with him." Laura encouraged.
Cassie was silent. 'Does Laura really think I can only last three days?'
Forget it, Cassie decided not to argue with Laura.
Next, the two women went on a shopping spree at the mall. By six in the evening, they had each successfully bought over ten bags of stuff.
"Let's find a place to eat. I'm starving." Laura, being pregnant, couldn't go hungry.
"I've already made a reservation upstairs."
"Nice job. That place is hard to book, but I've heard the food is amazing." Laura praised as they took the elevator upstairs.
When they reached the private room, they found someone already waiting there, back to the door, flipping through the menu. Her golden hair fell over her shoulders, and she wore a camel trench coat with blue jeans. When she turned around, her beautiful face made her look like she could be on a magazine cover.
Some people are just born to be stars.
"Bernice, you're back." Laura was full of surprise, "Are you healed?"
"Almost," Bernice smiled, "I've been busy shooting commercials and getting ready to join a film crew."
"I didn't expect you to come tonight." Laura glared at Cassie, "You didn't tell me. We could have shopped together."
"Forget it. If I were with you, the media would have swarmed."
Bernice smiled, "Besides, I was working this afternoon."
"True, you celebs are always busy."
Laura sighed, "We haven't seen each other for just a month or two, but it feels like forever."
"Yeah." Cassie agreed, as so much had happened recently, "Bernice, thank you."
Though she didn't leave in the end, she wouldn't forget that Bernice had offered her a lifeline when she was helpless.
