Chapter 247

"I brought a basin of warm water, removed his coat, loosened his shirt, and began wiping his handsome face with a towel.

""Megan Ray..."" he suddenly muttered, grabbing my hand in a half-conscious state.

Instantly stiffening, I felt a cold shock as if doused with frigid water. Megan Ray? Who was she? An ex-girlfriend? Women are often more sensitive than anyone else in these matters.

I pulled my hand away, but he reached out to hold my hand and murmured ""Megan Ray"" once again.

Turning my back, I sat on the edge of the bed, tears welling up in my eyes. My heart felt as if it was being pierced by needles. It was painful beyond words.

The next morning arrived.
Joseph woke from a hangover with a throbbing headache and an unsettled stomach. He opened his eyes to the familiar surroundings of his bedroom in the villa. How did Noah Collins manage to bring him back here? Right now, the last person he wanted to deal with was Cassie.

The night before had been a blur of too many drinks, and his stomach was paying the price for it. Scanning the room, his eyes landed on a bedside table where a cup of hot water and two antacids sat waiting for him. His dark eyes narrowed; the staff would never be this thoughtful, and they certainly didn't know his medication preferences. Only she...

With irritation swirling in his mind, he swallowed the antacids. After freshening up, his stomach eased enough for him to make his way downstairs.

The housekeeper was busy cleaning when she saw him. ""Cassie is making you breakfast,” she said cheerfully.

Joseph approached the dining table set with simple dishes—a soft bread roll, light vegetables, apple slices, and yogurt.

Cassie emerged from the kitchen carrying a pot of freshly simmered oatmeal. Dressed in a pink loungewear set with an apron tied around her waist and her hair pulled back into a ponytail, she looked fresh and beautiful with a gentle and serene demeanor.

""You drank a lot last night. It's best to eat something light this morning. Oatmeal is easy on the stomach,"" she said, her gaze lowered as she ladled some into a bowl, placing it in front of him.

Joseph glanced at the oatmeal and then at her, and suddenly the image of her clinging to David's neck, passionately kissing him in a photo, flashed through his mind. A chord deep in his heart seemed to snap.

He stood up abruptly, dumping the porridge and the roll into the trash, and stared at her coldly. ""Disgusting!""

Cassie's face turned pale, and after a long pause, she blinked back tears threatening to fall. ""If you find me so filthy, then I'll leave, okay?""

After all, he'd been calling out someone else's name in his sleep.

Maybe he never really loved her.

Hearing her words, Joseph's body shook, his eyes blazing red with anger. ""Leave? You must be eager to run back to David to live the love story everyone's rooting for online. You two are the talk of the town, the perfect power couple.""

""I’m not going to David!"" Cassie protested, exhausted by a sleepless night, feeling utterly drained. ""I'm leaving because you don't want to see me.""

""Even if I find you repulsive, you're staying right here in this house."" Joseph's voice was thick with vexation. ""As long as I'm alive, I’ll never let you be with David. Listen to me, Cassie, you've started something with me, and there's no walking away unscathed!""

With that, he stormed out again.

Cassie gave a bitter smile. What part of her was still intact? Her heart had long been broken.
