Chapter 1457 Revenge
"Lucas, does it really have to be like this?" Sarah cried, feeling totally embarrassed. "I'm struggling here. Are you trying to push me over the edge?"
Lucas shot her a cold look. "What are you doing here?"
"I asked her to come and keep Megan company," Michael chimed in from behind. "She and Megan used to get along, and Megan doesn't have many friends around. I thought she could use the company."
"Michael, you're so thoughtful," Bernice said sarcastically before walking off.
Lucas was speechless. "Michael, if you put this much effort into Laura, you wouldn't be getting a divorce."
With that, Lucas ran after Bernice.
Sarah watched as Lucas chased after Bernice. When they got to the elevator, Lucas even grabbed Bernice's arm.
That scene cut Sarah deep and sparked a flame of jealousy in her heart.
Choking up, Sarah asked Michael, "Michael, does Lucas like Bernice? Why her? What's so special about her?"
Still stung by Lucas's jab, Michael replied impatiently, "Even if it wasn't Bernice, it would be someone else. Lucas has never been the type to settle down. To him, women are like clothes."
Sarah's face went pale.
Yeah, Lucas was definitely like that.
But she also felt a bit relieved. Lucas was only interested in Bernice for now. How long could that last?
Plus, Sarah knew she was irreplaceable. Lucas couldn't marry anyone else but her.
"Spend more time with Megan. I have a family to take care of and can't always be here," Michael said irritably before leaving.
In the elevator, Lucas checked his watch; it was already noon.
"Let's grab lunch. What do you want to eat?" he asked Bernice beside him.
"I don't want to eat. I want to go home and rest," Bernice shot back.
"Fine, we'll eat at your place," Lucas said, hands in his pockets, looking all handsome and polished in his work clothes.
Bernice, still upset from seeing Megan, wasn't in the mood to deal with him. She bluntly said, "Mr. Nelson, I mean I want to go home and rest alone. If you're hungry, find someone else to eat with."
When they reached the first floor, she walked out directly.
Lucas squinted at her for a moment, then suddenly grabbed her and pinned her against the wall. His refined face turned cold. "Bernice, what do you mean? Use me and then ditch me?"
"Don't make it sound so bad. I kissed you, and you took me to see Megan. We're even. You didn't lose out," Bernice said impatiently, meeting his gaze. "Besides, Mr. Nelson, you set the terms from the start. Now you want to come to my place for lunch? If I agree, I'd be the one losing out."
Lucas had a love-hate thing with her sharp tongue. "Do you have to be so calculative?"
Bernice smiled. "You were calculative from the start, so I have to be even more cautious."
"Then you can continue to set conditions," Lucas said helplessly.
"I have nothing else to do." Bernice pushed him away and walked off.
Lucas watched her slender figure, more frustrated by his desire for her than angry.
Some kisses, if not savored carefully, wouldn't have such a strong effect.
Now he felt like an addict, not just wanting Bernice but needing to conquer her.
That evening, Bernice had dinner with Lachlan Everest.
Lachlan was just a small-time director in the industry. Normally, someone of Bernice's status wouldn't be caught dead dining with him. But Lachlan had directed Bernice's first film, so there was some old friendship there.
At the dinner table, Lachlan poured Bernice a drink. "Four years have flown by. Back then, you were still in school. No one expected that the once naive girl would become a famous star."
"Don't say that. If it weren't for your guidance, I wouldn't have the acting skills I have today," Bernice responded lazily.
Her current soul was Nina's, and she didn't remember Bernice's past. But she knew from her assistant that Lachlan had been a mentor to the former Bernice.
"Bernice, I actually came today to ask for your help." Lachlan handed over his script. "This is a new project I've been working on for three years. But you know my current status; no good actors are willing to work with me. I'm not asking you to be the lead, but if you could take a look and consider it if you like it."
"I'll read it carefully." Bernice took the script.
She knew Lachlan was one of the few honest directors in the industry, so she didn't refuse.
But she wasn't sure if she would still be able to act in the future.
Maybe after tonight...
Her phone buzzed with a message from Dashiell Blackwell: [We've infiltrated the hospital and are ready to act.]
She replied: [Be cautious.]
The dinner lasted until 8:30 PM. Bernice wiped her mouth with a napkin and said politely, "Mr. Everest, I have something to do later. I'll contact you after I read the script."
"Alright." Given her current status, Lachlan was already grateful for the two-hour conversation.
After getting in her car, Bernice drove to an ordinary neighborhood. There, she received another message from Dashiell: [We've got the person. We're taking her to the usual place.]
Bernice changed her clothes in the car and quickly switched to another unmarked black car to leave the city.
An hour later, the car drove into a factory. In the open space, a van was already parked.
Seeing her arrival, Dashiell and two of his men got out of the van. "Ms. Ramsey, we've brought the woman."
He opened the trunk. Megan was tied up and stuffed inside, with a cloth in her mouth, unconscious.
Bernice looked at her quietly, her eyes cold and her beautiful face expressionless.
Dashiell whispered, "Megan must have used that toothpaste. She was already unconscious in bed. The nurse didn't know and thought she was asleep. I disguised myself as a doctor, knocked out the nurse, and got out without the guards noticing. But I don't think we can keep it hidden for long. If we're lucky, they might not find out until six in the morning. If not, they might know by midnight."
"I understand, Dashiell. Thank you." Bernice took out some cards from her bag and handed them over. "Leave Madison with the money first thing in the morning. I've already arranged your visas."
