Chapter 911 Begging You
Joseph waited for a long time, but Cassie never posted on Facebook again. A sense of disappointment enveloped his heart.
Although Cassie had been distancing herself from him, at least they were interacting, which meant she was paying attention to him. But now, with no news, it meant he was being completely ignored, and the feeling of being ignored was unbearable.
Joseph threw his phone aside and stood up, causing his wound to ache again.
Nathaniel almost cried. "Mr. Hernandez, your injury hasn't healed yet. The doctor gave you special permission to come to the company. Please don't overexert yourself."
"Take me back to the Hernandez House," he then ordered.
Nathaniel breathed a sigh of relief. It was alright as long as he didn't see Cassey. Otherwise, if his wound reopened and he got a fever like last time, it would have been troublesome.
"By the way, buy more toys that Sophia likes," Joseph reminded.
Nathaniel was stunned for a moment, then nodded. Spending less time on relationships and more time with his daughter was indeed a good idea.
At five in the afternoon, Liam picked up Sophia from daycare. Sophia was holding a cotton candy, jumping up and down.
But when she saw Joseph in a wheelchair, she froze and then asked, "Uncle Joseph, why is your leg crippled?"
"No, Uncle Joseph had surgery, and the wound hasn't healed, so I can't walk," Joseph said gently.
"Uncle Joseph, you are so pitiful." Sophia's eyes showed a hint of pity. Although he was a flirtatious father, he was still her biological father. "Sophia will blow on it for you, okay?"
"No need, Uncle Joseph is much better." Joseph's heart softened. "Uncle Joseph bought you a lot of toys. Nathaniel put them in the children's room. There's a toy kitchen set, makeup kit, everything you could want."
"That's great, Uncle Joseph, thank you." Sophia jumped up in joy but quickly calmed down. "Wait, my mom said there's no such thing as a free lunch."
Joseph fell silent. Liam couldn't help but laugh gleefully. "Sophia, your mom is right. This is definitely suspicious."
"Liam." Joseph shot him a cold, intimidating look.
"I warned you long ago," Liam said irritably. "Now you regret it, don't you? But unfortunately, there's no medicine for regret in this world. Those who have been hurt can't just pretend nothing happened. Besides, Spencer is indeed very important to Cassie."
Joseph gripped the wheelchair handles tightly and inquired, "You were the one who sent her abroad back then. You should know about her and Spencer. Can you tell me?"
"You've always hated me for bribing the doctor to fake her death and send her abroad," Liam sneered. "I still remember how you beat me up back then."
Joseph's handsome brow furrowed with irritation. Yes, he had hit him, but did that mean he had to apologize to Liam Hernandez personally?
But to understand more about Cassie, he could only take a deep breath and muster the courage to speak, "Liam, I was impulsive back then. I have to admit, you did the right thing."
At that time, he didn't love Cassie. He failed to realize it. Now, thinking back, if she had died, he would be in unbearable pain.
Liam glanced at him in surprise. He didn't expect an actual apology. It was truly astonishing.
"Alright, I'll reluctantly tell you. Spencer and Peter both came from the slums of Greenland. To survive, they were sent to an organization at a young age, but they did illegal things. Spencer and Peter wanted to defect but were hunted by the organization. Two years ago, Cassie happened to save them, but the price of saving them was their unconditional loyalty to her for five years. They were very loyal to Cassie and were her right-hand men. In the early days abroad, Cassie encountered several dangers, thanks to their protection. Moreover, Spencer taught Cassie's fighting skills. These two men were her teachers and her family," Liam stated.
"Why did Cassie encounter danger abroad?" Joseph asked, his voice tense.
"Come on, a beautiful woman, unfamiliar with the place; it's not that safe abroad," Liam retorted. "She achieved what she has today because she went through a lot of hardships."
She even had to take care of two children while working frantically, often getting sick from exhaustion. But Liam couldn't tell Joseph that.
"In fact, if it weren't for you and Megan, she wouldn't have had to go abroad." The more Liam spoke, the angrier he became.
He left with Sophia in tow. Sophia went straight to her playroom. Although she couldn't see her mom here, the Hernandez family treated her very well and bought her many toys.
After a while, Joseph wheeled himself into the room.
"Sophia, I need your help. I'm begging you," Joseph said softly, never imagining he would one day plead with Sophia. "Can you help me get Aunt Cassie to come out? Just tell her you want to play with her."
"Uncle Joseph, didn't you say before that I shouldn't contact Aunt Cassie?" Sophia looked up, deliberately saying, "You said she kidnapped me and was a wicked woman."
Joseph rubbed his forehead, wishing he could bite off his tongue. "I misunderstood before. I... I love her very much. I want to be with her. Sophia, could you help me? I'll do anything you ask if you agree."
"I don't want you to do anything. I just don't want Aunt Cassie to be hurt by you again," Sophia pouted. "Dad said you hurt Aunt Cassie very badly this time. You even helped Aunt Megan against Aunt Cassie, making Aunt Cassie stay up all night looking for evidence. I won't help you and Aunt Cassie get back together."
Joseph felt a deep bitterness in his heart. "I know I was wrong. If I get back together with Cassie, I will cherish and love her..."
"No need. Someone else will do better than you," Sophia blurted out.
Joseph was stunned, then his handsome face turned cold, and his tone involuntarily hardened. "Who?"
No one could do better than him. Could another man have appeared by Cassie's side?
The thought of this possibility made Joseph feel flames of jealousy rise in his chest.
"Uncle Joseph, you're so scary." Sophia realized she had slipped up and was frightened, wanting to escape.
"Sophia, don't be afraid," Joseph endured the pain, got off the wheelchair, and hugged her, pleading, "I really love Cassie. Yes, I have done many things to hurt her before, and I am in great pain. I know I shouldn't disturb her, but I can't help thinking about her day and night."
"Then why didn't you think about Cassie when you were with Megan?" Sophia asked innocently but hit the nail on the head.
"I..." Joseph was momentarily speechless. "I did think about her, but I misunderstood her at that time. I thought she was a bad woman."
"If Aunt Cassie is bad, you don't like her? That means Uncle Joseph only likes good women. But there are many good women. Does Uncle Joseph like them all?" she then asked.
Sophia's words once again left Joseph dumbfounded.
