Chapter 1720 Elliott Gets a Harsh Counterattack
Julia's face felt like it had been doused with hot oil, burning hot. "Jerk."
"I'm a hypocritical jerk," Elliott admitted. "I say no, but my actions are more honest than anyone's. Julia, you win. No matter if you left me first, I've never forgotten you. At least you got married; I haven't even touched another woman. Meeting you in this life has been a huge loss for me."
Unconsciously, Julia's eyes gradually softened. "What did you call me before? A divorced woman? You looked down on me. You said women who throw themselves at men are worthless, and you'd rather never know me."
Elliott was harshly countered.
Why did Julia have such a good memory?
After a long pause, he mumbled, "I've always been a hypocrite. You didn't just find out today."
Elliott's eyelashes drooped pitifully.
That cold face turned into that of an innocent child.
Julia wrapped her hands around his neck, feeling incredibly soft-hearted at this moment. "Then you can't hurt me anymore."
"Okay."
"And you can't be mean to me anymore."
"Okay."
"Will you still make me hang the laundry?"
"When did I ever make you hang the laundry?" Elliott felt wronged. He wanted her to, but she never listened to him.
"From now on, you can't make love to me without my consent."
Elliott's delicate lips moved reluctantly; he didn't want to compromise on this.
"I even lost my job because of you," Julia sighed.
"Okay," Elliott nodded helplessly.
"Then who am I to you?" Julia asked with a smile, posing one last question.
"Wife?" Elliott racked his brain, asking tentatively.
"Correct. Drive home; I'm really tired." Julia pushed him away and softly gave an order.
Seeing the fatigue in her eyes, Elliott immediately started the car. "To my place or yours?"
"Let's go to mine. Your place is too small," Julia decided.
Elliott felt a bit down but then said resentfully, "You didn't say it was too small when you lived there before."
"Back then, you hated me so much. If I dared to say that, you'd definitely retort: 'If you think it's small, you can leave.'" Julia mimicked him, giving him a cold glance.
Elliott immediately pursed his lips. Okay, he might have actually said that back then.
"Besides," Julia said softly from the passenger seat, "I really wanted to be with you at that time. I probably wouldn't have minded living in a few square feet."
Elliott, who had felt a bit down, suddenly felt like his heart was filled with honey. Although his face remained cold, he seemed like a lion being petted, even a bit shy.
"But your hurt made me feel like I almost lost my life. I'm scared. I have a shadow over that place. I don't want to go there for now," Julia's tone shifted again.
Elliott's heart seemed to fall from a high place. He reached out and held her fingers, saying hoarsely, "I promise, it won't happen again."
He had made many promises today.
Julia didn't want to keep bringing it up either. "If it happens again, I definitely won't be with you. Liking someone doesn't mean risking your life. I don't have a masochistic tendency."
"Yes, you're right."
Elliott responded honestly, "If you don't want to live there, I can move in with you."
When they arrived at her apartment complex, Elliott opened the trunk, which was filled with several bags of groceries.
Julia glanced at them. "When did you buy these?"
"I went to the supermarket while waiting for you," Elliott said, lifting the bags with his strong arms.
Back home, Julia rested on the sofa. Her brain had been working all day, and she was exhausted.
Elliott rolled up his sleeves and started cooking. Knowing she hadn't been feeling well these past few days, he specially made chicken soup.
While the soup was simmering, Rose called. "Are you not coming home for dinner and sleep again today?"
"Yes," Elliott replied softly.
Rose wasn't disappointed; she was actually happy. "Are you staying at the apartment every day now? Should I come over tomorrow?"
She was eager to meet Elliott's wife.
Seeing Elliott not coming home every day, Rose thought she might soon have a grandchild.
"No need, I'm not staying there," Elliott denied flatly.
Rose's eyes lit up. "Are you staying at her place? Impressive. Wait, I hear the pressure cooker. Are you cooking?"
"Not bad, not bad. You usually seem like an ice block, but now you're cooking for your girlfriend. You've got potential. When will you bring her home so your mom can show off her cooking skills?" Rose laughed heartily.
"I'll bring her home when the time is right. I'm busy now."
Elliott hung up the phone.
He glanced at the living room. Julia was on the phone while looking at her laptop, seemingly busy with work. The soft light above her fell gently on her.
Elliott felt like he was back in their rented apartment in Austin.
Back then, she was busy studying and taking exams. The peaceful days made him decide to stay with her forever.
After many twists and turns.
He suddenly looked down and smiled.
She had indeed forced him to get married, but at the wedding, although he outwardly showed a million signs of dissatisfaction, deep down, he wasn't that resistant.
"Dinner's ready." Elliott's voice sounded above her.
Julia looked up, still immersed in work, not fully snapping out of it.
On the other end of the phone, Aaron exploded, "Julia, who are you having dinner with? I heard a man's voice. Who is it? Doesn't sound like Garth."
"No wonder you suddenly resigned. Do you have a man? Is that why you dumped all the work on me?"
The room was very quiet, and even without the speaker on, Aaron's voice came through.
Julia decisively hung up the phone.
"Aaron?" Elliott asked.
"Yes, he has no ambition, never takes work seriously, and only thinks about dating," Julia said helplessly.
"He has an older brother and sister. The Jude Family business won't fall to him. It's normal for him not to be ambitious," Elliott agreed.
Julia was stunned for a few seconds, then suddenly laughed. "If I were the youngest in my family, I wouldn't have any pressure either. It would be great to just date you every day."
"You're not that kind of person." Elliott served a bowl of rice and glanced at her. "You're stronger than most men."
"Are you complimenting me or insulting me?" Julia kicked him under the table.
