Chapter 1452 The First Time Being Proactive
"Yeah, I’ve got her phone," Lucas said, glancing over at Bernice lying in bed. "She’s having some porridge in bed."
Having some porridge in bed.
That sounded pretty suggestive.
In a flash, Laura's mind went wild. Did these two get drunk last night, and Lucas took advantage of it? Now Bernice was exhausted and just woke up?
Laura was totally shocked. "Lucas, you jerk, what did you do to Bernice?"
Laura's voice was so loud that Bernice heard it too. She couldn't take it anymore and reached out. "Lucas, give me my phone back."
"Beg me," Lucas said, raising an eyebrow.
Bernice wanted to throw the porridge in his face but held back.
She couldn't act rashly with someone like Lucas; who knew what he might do next.
She didn't want a repeat of yesterday.
Laura was still shouting for Bernice to take the call, and Lucas replied, "Bernice doesn't want to beg me, so clearly you're not that important. I'm hanging up."
With that, Lucas pocketed the phone.
Bernice's eyes turned cold. "Mr. Nelson, are you being serious? That's my phone."
"Is it? I didn't know. Found it yesterday," Lucas said with a chuckle. "If you treat me a bit nicer, maybe I'll consider giving it back."
Bernice was tired; she really didn't want to play nice with Lucas.
But her phone had a lot of secrets and important calls. "Mr. Nelson, I'm begging you, can you give me the phone?"
"Is that how you beg?" Lucas didn't budge. "Too cold, very distant."
"What do you want me to do?" Bernice's head still hurt, and she didn't want to think too much.
Lucas stared at her dry, thin lips and suddenly smiled. "Kiss me, and I'll give you the phone."
Bernice didn't say anything, just looked at him silently.
The atmosphere got so awkward that the assistant on the side made an excuse. "I'm going to the restroom."
She quickly left.
Lucas smirked. "Your assistant is pretty sharp."
Bernice felt a deep sense of disgust. "My phone's only worth a few hundred bucks. I can easily buy a new one and get a new SIM card."
"Is that so? If you think it's not worth it, then forget it. I'm not forcing you." Lucas stood up slowly. "Then this phone is mine."
Seeing Lucas about to leave, Bernice's hand tightened under the blanket. "Wait."
"What, second thoughts?" Lucas stopped. "Everyone has little secrets on their phone. It's up to you to decide whether a kiss or your secrets are more important."
Bernice's teeth were clenched tight, and after a full half-minute of silence, her fist gradually relaxed. "Come here."
Lucas walked to the bedside and bent down. He stared at Bernice's face; although her features were delicate, her skin looked tired. Compared to the women he had been with before, Bernice really wasn't much to look at.
But when Lucas met her cold gaze, he inexplicably wanted to taste her lips.
Bernice said nothing, her lips moved closer, and Lucas noticed that the teeth that had been resisting him earlier had opened, and her warmth entangled with his.
Bernice's lips were cold, but the kiss was hot and clumsy, with a hint of porridge.
Lucas bent over, feeling a sensation in his spine.
He thought he might have gone too long without being with a woman.
Or maybe it was because it was Bernice's first time making a move.
Lucas actually felt his heart race. He found it interesting and quickly went from passive to active.
But before he could really enjoy the taste of her lips, Bernice had already pulled away, leaving a trace of her on his lips. "I did it. Can I have my phone now?"
Lucas stared at her lips up close; they had been pale before, but now they were pink from his kiss.
He felt it wasn't enough.
He even had a sudden urge to press her down on the bed and make love to her.
But he was always a rational guy. After staring at her for a while, he handed the phone back to her. "Bernice, you're sweet."
Bernice's face was expressionless.
Lucas pinched her chin, asking, "Aren't you shy?"
"I think I need to brush my teeth," Bernice said calmly.
Lucas's eyes suddenly turned cold, but he quickly smiled again. "You need to get used to it. You can't brush your teeth every time; after all, brushing too much isn't good for your teeth."
With that, he left the ward.
After walking to the window, he couldn't help but light a cigarette. That kiss felt damn good.
Rationality told him that because of Nina, he shouldn't continue getting tangled up with Bernice.
But his reckless nature, which had been with him since childhood, seemed to want to drag him into the abyss.
He wanted Bernice, wanted to have her.
The thought had never been so strong.
In the ward, Bernice's face was as cold as ice, but without a toothbrush, she could only use a tissue to wipe vigorously.
She had just wanted to bite off Lucas's tongue.
The closer Lucas got, the more disgusted she felt, and even that kiss made her want to vomit.
After calming herself down, Bernice picked up the phone and called Laura to explain.
After hearing it, Laura finally felt relieved. "You scared me. I thought because of me, you were raped by that Lucas. Luckily, you weren't, or I would never forgive myself. By the way, which ward are you in? I'll come see you."
Bernice told her the room number.
Laura contacted Cassie, and the two arrived at the ward by eleven in the morning.
As soon as they entered, Cassie looked at Bernice's face and noticed she looked much more haggard and her complexion wasn't good.
Cassie couldn't help but frown. "How much did you guys drink last night? You ended up in the hospital."
Laura felt guilty, and Bernice smiled indifferently. "It wasn't really because of the drinking. I caught a cold and had a fever last night."
"You caught a cold and had a fever, so why was Lucas here in the morning?" Cassie felt something was off.
"He found out from my agent. After all, I'm signed with his company." Bernice clearly didn't want to discuss it further. "And I left my phone with him yesterday."
Cassie nodded and then said seriously, "In any case, don't drink like that again. It's bad for your health."
"I don't want to either, but it's all because of Megan," Laura said gloomily, "Forget it, I won't do it again. Derek already scolded me this morning. For Maeve, I have to be strong."
Bernice didn't say anything, afraid that mentioning Megan would make her lose her composure.
"Alright, I know Megan is a troublemaker. Don't worry, Joseph won't let her get away with it," Cassie comforted, "Bernice, let me peel an orange for you."
The two stayed with Bernice in the ward for half an hour before leaving.
