Chapter 1526 What a Radiant Smile

"Laura, can you finish all this by yourself, do you need our help?" A few colleagues immediately laughed and gathered around, "We didn't have much for breakfast."

When the bags were opened, Laura didn't know what to say.

There was really a lot of food.

"Laura, your boyfriend treats you so well." A female colleague next to her firmly believed Derek was her boyfriend, no matter how Laura explained.

"Laura, you're so lucky," another colleague said.

Laura remained silent.

Although Derek wasn't her boyfriend, Laura couldn't help but feel a bit happy from all the praise and envy.

However, Laura did find the food quite appetizing. While eating a snack, she sent Derek a message on Facebook: [It's so much, are you trying to make me fat?]

Derek: [Because I know you can't be easily bought with just 'a little' good stuff.]

Laura: [Alright.]

Derek: [Baby, don't be mad, it was my fault this morning.]

Laura: [Stop that. Call Blair that, or the guy you were hugging last night.]

Derek: [Come on, Blair can't compare to you, and neither can that guy.]

Laura: [No way.]

Derek: [Laura, to answer your question from this morning, maybe I could take shortcuts by relying on my parents, but I don't want to sacrifice my feelings for that. Life is long, and I want the person who stays with me to be the one I love the most. If I face setbacks in my career, it's okay, I can work hard for another ten or twenty years. Even if I don't reach the position others expected, I won't be too upset. Life is wonderful, it's not necessary to be like my dad. If I get married in the future, it will definitely be to someone I love, understand?]

Laura was stunned.

She understood, she just didn't expect Derek to be someone who prioritized love over career.

It must be someone who owned a deep love to make such a decision.

After a long while, she replied: [Got it, you really like that man, you're willing to do anything for him.]

For some reason, she felt a bit envious of that guy, being so deeply loved by Derek.

Derek: [Laura, are you an idiot?]

Laura: [Derek, who are you calling an idiot? Do you believe I won't talk to you anymore?]

Derek sent a crying emoji.

Laura laughed: [Alright, Elliott said he wants to treat you to dinner tonight to thank you for your help. Will you be free?]

Derek: [Are you going? If you go, I'll definitely be free.]

Laura: [Why?]

Derek: [You're so cute, you can liven up the atmosphere. Elliott is quiet, I'm afraid the dinner will be too dull.]

Laura chuckled, having dinner with Elliott might indeed be like that.

"Laura, sweet chatting," A colleague next to her teased.

In the evening, Elliott drove her to a fancy restaurant for dinner.

They had just sat down in the private room when the heavy door was pushed open. Derek walked in first, followed by a woman in a blue wool coat. The woman had a cold and elegant appearance, carrying a handbag, and her gaze was sharp.

Laura almost dropped her teacup and quickly stood up, "Julia."

Elliott's expression froze.

Julia was slightly stunned.

Derek smiled and said, "I happened to be discussing something with Julia this afternoon, so we came together. After all, we're all familiar faces."

"Julia, have a seat." Laura quickly pulled out a chair for Julia.

But Derek pulled Julia away and sat down himself, then said, "Sit over there, this is where the food will be served."

Laura immediately slapped her forehead, realizing her oversight.

"Don't slap your forehead, you'll get dumber." Derek teased with a smile.

"You're the dumb one." Laura glared at him.

So the seating arrangement at the round table changed, with Laura and Julia sitting between Derek and Elliott.

Throughout the meal, it seemed like only Derek and Laura were talking. Laura suddenly remembered that Julia had been Elliott's girlfriend in college.

But Derek didn't seem to notice any problem. He started ordering food and actively chatted with Elliott , occasionally bringing Julia into the conversation.

When the wine was served, Elliott raised his glass, "Julia, Derek, I toast to you both, especially Derek, thank you for your help with the Miller Group."

Julia calmly raised her glass and took a sip.

"Don't be so formal, we're all family." Derek raised his glass with a smile.

"I'll join you for a drink too," Laura said.

When Laura was about to pick up her glass, Derek glared at her, "No, if you drink, who will drive us back later?"

"Alright." Laura reluctantly put down her glass.

"Great, with that assurance, Elliott, cheers." Derek enthusiastically looked at Elliott.

When the food was served, Derek kept toasting Elliott.

"Elliott, I wish you a greater success in your career. You're not getting any younger, I wish you get married and have kids soon. Cheers," Derek said.

Elliott originally wanted to thank Derek, but seeing Derek constantly toasting him, he had no choice but to toast back.

Laura watched in confusion as Elliott and Derek kept toasting each other, quickly finishing a bottle of wine.

Derek laughed, "It's been a long time since I drank so satisfyingly at last time, let's have another bottle."

Elliott was silent.

Could Elliott say no? He usually didn't find Derek as someone who liked to drink so much.

So, a new bottle of wine was brought in. This time, Derek included Julia, and after a few glasses, under the lights, Julia's cold face blushed.

Elliott glanced at her and lowered his eyes. This time, without Derek pouring the wine into his glass, he started drinking on his own.
