Chapter 1156 Benjamin Messed with the Wrong Person
"Mom, I'm sorry. After all these years, I still haven't found the murderer," Cassie sighed, placed the flowers down, and left.
About half an hour later, Everett showed up.
He saw the flowers and thought, "Does the Brooks family have other relatives? Could it be Cassie? Didn't she cause Grandma's death? How dare she come here? When someone becomes truly malicious, they fear nothing."
After paying his respects, Everett noticed Isabella's grave near Nevaeh and Natalie's. It had a photo of a young Isabella.
It seemed Olivia was telling the truth.
Ariana's real name was Isabella, but since Isabella wasn't dead, the grave was pointless.
Everett thought about having Isabella's grave destroyed that night.
At four in the afternoon, Cassie visited the Miller family.
The Millers surrounded Laura, ignoring Michael.
"Cassie, it's been a while. You look even more beautiful," Rose said, holding Cassie's hand. "Thanks for taking care of Laura."
"Don't mention it. Laura's helped me a lot too," Cassie replied with a smile.
"What a shame," Rose said with a smile. "Before you were with Arthur, I thought you and Elliott were perfect together."
Michael's ears perked up, thinking, "Could Joseph have another rival?"
Laura rolled her eyes. "Forget it. I'm not sure Elliott even likes women."
"Don't talk nonsense," Luke snapped.
Rose sighed. "Laura's right. I've set him up with so many women, and he hasn't liked any of them. I'm really worried he might like men."
Cassie smiled and reassured her. "Rose, don't overthink it."
Just as Rose nodded, a security guard rushed in. "Mrs. Miller, two people from the Hayes family are here. They said they're waiting outside and must see you."
Rose was surprised, but Laura quickly caught on. "It's probably Abigail and Bryan. They couldn't find me in Whisperlyn City, so they came to my home in Silverwood."
"Benjamin caused you so much trouble, and they still have the nerve to come," Luke said angrily, slamming the table.
"They're probably here to save Benjamin," Laura said, hesitating and glancing at Michael. "From what Carl said, Benjamin might be in prison for life."
"For life?" Luke and Rose were shocked.
Although they despised Benjamin, they thought the Jude family would just bankrupt the Hayes Group. They never expected Benjamin to face life in prison. No wonder Abigail and Bryan were so desperate.
Michael glanced at them, hesitated, and said, "You need to understand what Benjamin did this time. Carl is just one step away from the presidency, and Benjamin foolishly provoked him. Whether it's a minor or major offense, no one can challenge the authority of a future president. Carl is genuinely furious this time."
The Millers were stunned.
Carl was about to become president, and his wrath wasn't something ordinary people could handle.
"Let them in," Laura finally said.
Soon, Bryan and Abigail walked in, their eyes lighting up with a glimmer of hope as they spotted Laura and Michael.
"Laura, Mr. Jude," Bryan said, gritting his teeth, "Benjamin was foolish. Please, let him go. We can give all the Hayes Group's assets to the Jude Group. He's my only son."
"Yes," Abigail choked up. "We had no idea he'd do something so outrageous. Laura, Benjamin has always cared about you."
Michael frowned and instinctively interrupted, "You didn't secretly record this, did you? So you can later claim the Jude family is bullying you?"
"No, absolutely not," Bryan and Abigail blushed. "We're not Isla."
"Mr. Miller, I had no idea about this. If I had known, I would have stopped Benjamin. The Hayes Group has been doing well, so I let him expand in Whisperlyn City. I know he provoked someone he shouldn't have, and it's impossible for him to get out unscathed. I was willing to give up all our assets to bring him back," Bryan explained.
"At least you're not foolish," Luke said calmly.
"Unfortunately, I have a foolish son who overestimated himself," Bryan admitted. "What can I do? He's my only son. Laura, Benjamin owes you, and he can never repay it in this lifetime. But it's not entirely his fault. If we had realized Isla liked him back then, she wouldn't have worked at the Hayes Group. Since you dislike Isla, I promise Benjamin will never have contact with her again."
"Bryan, do you think this is something I can decide at this point?" Laura interrupted. "Benjamin is just an ordinary CEO, but he foolishly thought he could go against a future president. If he's not severely punished, similar things will happen in the future. Some decisions are beyond our control."
Bryan and Abigail were both shocked. "What do you mean?"
"It means if you want to enjoy your old age, stop pleading for Benjamin everywhere," Michael said calmly. "We didn't intend to make this a big deal initially. It was Benjamin who always indulged Isla. Isla probably thought Whisperlyn City was like Silverwood, where crying and making a scene would earn her sympathy. But politics isn't that simple. You either win or lose everything for life. Understand?"
Bryan's heart ached painfully. After several minutes of silence, he seemed to age several years.
"I got it. Let's go," Bryan said, supporting Abigail.
"What do you mean?" Abigail asked, tears streaming down her face.
"Save Benjamin?" Bryan laughed bitterly. "With what? Accept it. If we keep pushing, we won't even have peace in our old age."
