Chapter 959 Wanting Joseph to Lose His Fertility

Joseph pondered, "Who could be this ruthless? Marcus? Our feud isn't that intense. Or is it someone else?"

"You bastard, how dare you hit me." The man wiped his bloody mouth and was about to advance when a cop barged in, yelling, "What's going on? Even behind bars, you can't act out?"

In a coastal villa...

David received a call, a faint smile playing on his lips. "Is it taken care of?"

"Yes. I heard Joseph's thigh bled a lot, and he probably won't be able to have kids in the future."

"Probably?" David squinted. "I want certainty."

David thought to himself, 'Joseph, you've humiliated me over and over. I'll destroy you. Love playing with women? I'll make sure you can never have kids again. No kids, no right to get close to Cassie.'

"Yes, probably," the subordinate said quietly, "Just as we were about to strike again, the cops stopped us. Lucas happened to be at the station to see Joseph."

"Damn it," David muttered.

"Mr. Foster, Joseph was hit really hard, so he probably did lose his ability to have kids," the subordinate reassured.

"Good." David's handsome face twisted into a sinister grin.

When Michael rushed to the hospital after hearing the news, Lucas had already been waiting outside the emergency room for a while.

"How is he? Damn, who the hell would want to harm Joseph like this?" Michael's face was grim. "This is clearly an attempt to make Joseph lose his ability to have kids. It's too cruel. Could it be Marcus? That's too vicious. The Hernandez family is already in such a state, and he still won't let them go. He doesn't have that deep of a grudge against the Hernandez family, does he?"

"I don't think it's Marcus," Lucas said, taking a drag of his cigarette. "Marcus doesn't have that deep of a grudge against the Hernandez family, but he's a pervert, especially someone who used to be at the bottom. Over the decades, he must have felt that the Hernandez family looked down on him. Now that it's finally Marcus's time to rise, he wants to destroy the Hernandez family completely. The more someone has helped Marcus, the more he wants to cover it up. He might even see that help as an insult. In Marcus's mind, he believes he could have succeeded without the Hernandez family."

Michael was stunned for a moment. Thinking it over, he agreed with Lucas. "Wow, Lucas, since when did you become a psychologist?"

"I studied a bit when dealing with Joseph's illness," Lucas frowned. "Why would the person behind this target Joseph's reproductive ability? It's obvious they want to make sure Joseph loses his ability to have kids. People who do this usually aim for precise revenge."

Michael blinked. "So you're saying it's Joseph's rival in love. But Joseph's only rival is... David."

When he mentioned David's name, Michael was dumbfounded. "No way, David is known for his good temper and gentlemanly demeanor, and many people even call him the 'devoted gentleman.'"

"Don't you find David a bit scary?" Lucas glanced at Michael. "We're all fighting in the business world. Successful people have either strong willpower or are extremely cunning. In just a few years, David has risen to the top of Madison's business world. I remember a few years ago when the Wit Group entered Whisperlyn City, many people looked down on them. But from then on, David quietly established himself in Whisperlyn City. Now, he's a regular presence at every major business gathering."

"Indeed." Michael seemed to understand after Lucas's reminder.

"And... do you remember three years ago when Cassie first came from Silverwood? She was David's fiancée, and later, Joseph snatched Cassie from him. On their wedding day, Joseph came to take her away again, publicly humiliating David. No man could tolerate that," Lucas remarked.

"Yeah." Michael nodded, recalling the events. "Lucas, David is quite scheming. If he can target Joseph even in the police station, David is no simple guy. If he keeps targeting Joseph, it could be really troublesome."

"What's more troubling is that David does it secretly, without showing any signs on the surface," Lucas said.

Both of them fell silent until Joseph was wheeled out of the emergency room. Joseph hadn't passed out, but his face was pale.

After entering the ward, the doctor said helplessly, "We just performed a debridement and suturing surgery. He got injured severely. As for the future, I can't say for sure."

"What do you mean? I might not... be able to perform in bed anymore?" Joseph looked severely shocked.

"I can't say that for certain. There's no absolute answer," the doctor said sympathetically, "You need to stay optimistic."

Joseph laughed bitterly. He could tell the doctor was trying to comfort him. So now he had to rely on staying optimistic?

Joseph wasn't even a lustful person. Before Cassie came back, he hadn't had a woman for years, and it didn't matter to him.

But thinking about how he might not be able to have children, he wondered if he would have any right to win Cassie back. In such a situation, Joseph thought it would be meaningless to win her back.

He pondered, 'It seems I'm doomed to break up with Cassie. First, the Hernandez family collapsed, and now I can't have children. Is this punishment for the deep hurt I caused Cassie, condemning me to a lifetime of loneliness?'

Joseph suddenly felt utterly dejected. He had been determined to pull himself together, thinking he was still young and could help the Hernandez family rise again, which would give him the confidence to win Cassie back. But now, he had lost all motivation.

"Joseph, don't be like this." Michael had never seen Joseph like this before. Joseph had always been high and mighty, even arrogantly making people want to punch him. But now, Michael noticed that the confidence in Joseph's eyes was gone. Even when the chip was stolen, Joseph hadn't shown such a defeated look.

"Yeah, with today's advanced science, if your mental illness could be cured, this can be, too." Lucas comforted him. "I know many renowned doctors. You have to trust me."

"Thank you." Joseph smiled bitterly. "If it weren't for you two, I'd probably still be stuck in the police station. I never thought I'd end up like this."

"It's all because of Cassie," Michael muttered, "If you hadn't taken her to the island after the chip was developed and stayed with the Hernandez family, the Chamberlain family wouldn't have successfully stolen the chip."

"Enough," Lucas warned Michael.

Michael sighed.

Joseph remained silent. He knew Michael was right, but he had no regrets. If he could do it all over again, he would still make the same choices. At least he had been happy for that one month.
