Chapter 1227 You Really Need a Lesson
When Bernice pictured the scene, a chill ran down her spine. Bruce could totally pull something like that.
Whatever. She knew she couldn't beat Lucas tonight, and with her injury, she didn't want to deal with it.
"Alright, since you helped me out earlier and I owe you one, I'll crash here tonight," Bernice said, looking like she really didn't want to.
But it was clear she was only staying because she owed him, so now she didn't owe him squat.
Lucas found it funny.
"Bernice, you know what this is? Shameless," he shot back.
"Did I say anything wrong? Or did you think I wanted to stay?" Bernice raised an eyebrow. "If you think I'm shameless, then I'll bounce."
"Enough, just lie down. Guess I'm a sucker for your tricks." Lucas chuckled. He liked Bernice's attitude. If she were like Sarah, it wouldn't be fun at all.
Bernice gave a cold smirk.
She knew what Lucas was thinking. To him, she was just a rare toy. Once he had her and she fell for him, he wouldn't care anymore.
"Mr. Nelson." Someone suddenly knocked on the door.
"Come in," Lucas said, and a security guard walked in. "I interrogated those two guys earlier. They knew Ms. Ramsey's room number because someone secretly called and told them."
"Do you know who it was?" Lucas frowned.
"It was a burner phone," the security guard said. "Probably one of Ms. Ramsey's enemies."
"Alright. Send them to the police and say they caused trouble at the hospital," Lucas instructed, and the room went quiet again.
He looked at Bernice, who was lying quietly on the pillow. She lowered her gaze and then looked up after a moment. "Very few people know my room number. Besides the hospital staff, only people from the company know."
"What are you getting at?" Lucas found a sofa and sat down.
"I bet it's Sarah," Bernice said bluntly. "She hates my guts."
Lucas gave her a long look and chuckled. "That's just your guess. Of course, you might be trying to stir things up between Sarah and me."
"Do I need to stir things up? I don't even like you," Bernice said flatly. "As for her, she probably thinks I'm a roadblock in both love and career."
Lucas's handsome face stiffened for a moment, then he said indifferently, "If you want to stir things up, I wouldn't mind."
"Forget it. You're super suspicious. If I really wanted to climb up by stirring things up between you and Sarah, you'd definitely warn me. Worse, you might even have the company give me a hard time," Bernice said casually. "Mr. Nelson, you want to control everything. You want a woman who'll do whatever you say. Wife, mistress, whatever—you think women just wanna suck up to you, and that's what I hate most about you."
"Keep talking," Lucas said, lighting up a cigarette, his grin getting wider.
Seriously, no woman had ever gotten him like this, not even Erin.
How long had he known Bernice?
Bernice didn't hold back. "Honestly, besides being good-looking, having a good family background, and being good at medicine, what else you got? Other people have those too. Lucas, you're not that special, and you don't have the qualifications for me to mess things up between you and Sarah. Honestly, what are you two? One wants to sleep with me, and the other is jealous of me. Do you both think I'm some toy you can mess with and toss aside whenever?"
The room's temperature seemed to drop to freezing.
Lucas's expression turned cold, and he stubbed out his cigarette.
He stood up and walked to the bedside, his eyes as cold as ice. "Bernice, have I been too nice to you lately, letting you take advantage of me again and again?"
"Do you think just because you come to me, I should be grateful and respectful? You know I speak harshly, yet you keep coming to me. Aren't you asking for it?" Bernice said coldly. "If you want to bug me, that's your business. If I don't agree, that's my business. As for your woman, keep her in check. That's your business."
"Bernice, are you so sure it was Sarah? Got any proof?" Lucas's face was extremely ugly, not because he wanted to protect Sarah, but because, as a man, he felt very humiliated.
"I'm sorry. Before I got involved with you, no one in the company had a problem with me," Bernice said confidently, not even blinking.
She had no evidence, but she was convinced it was Sarah.
Lucas was so angry his heart hurt.
It was the first time she had ever made him so mad.
"Bernice, you really need to be taught a lesson. You said I'm nothing. Well, I'll show you what I am." Lucas was completely enraged.
These days, he didn't care about her coldness; he pampered her.
However, what he got in return was deeper humiliation.
Not even Yancy had dared to scold him.
He pressed Bernice onto the bed, his tall and strong body covering hers.
Bernice's resistance made her wound hurt intensely.
"Bernice, I admit you understand me well, but don't you look down on me? I don't want to force women. If you don't want to be with me, you can just be mute." Lucas tore open her hospital gown, and several buttons instantly popped off.
As a large area of skin was exposed, Lucas lowered his head and, under Bernice's angry gaze, covered her lips with his.
She took medicine from her daily treatments, but after he tasted it deeply, it was damn sweet.
But this sweet mouth often said things that infuriated him.
Lucas, with a hint of punishment, bit her hard.
