Chapter 1682 She and I, it's never going to happen
"Isadora is a socialite and a director at Infinity Capital Group."
Rose, in a good mood, glared at her, "She became Elliott's secretary because she has a crush on him. She has good taste."
Laura's mouth twitched. Liking Elliott is considered good taste? "What's so great about that? Elliott is as cold as ice."
"Others might say that, but Elliott has always been good to you since you were little. Plus, he's very handsome."
After saying this, Rose coughed, "Of course, Elliott is a bit aloof. I'm just worried that his personality will keep him single forever. Since Isadora saved his life, it's only right for him to marry her, and he agreed."
"Elliott might be scared of you pressuring him into marriage. He probably thinks that since he has to get married anyway, it doesn't matter who he marries, so he might as well avoid dating." Laura pouted.
"Couples develop feelings over time. Once they have kids, things will naturally be different. Besides, Isadora is a nice girl; I quite like her."
Laura didn't have much of an impression of Isadora, but she didn't believe that having kids would change a marriage.
She had thought the same before, but she still ended up divorcing Michael.
That night, when she heard Elliott come back,
Laura quickly slipped in, "Elliott."
As soon as she closed the door and turned around, she saw Elliott taking off his shirt. Underneath the deep blue shirt were rows of well-defined abs and a lean waist, but his skin was a wild, honey-brown color.
"Elliott, I didn't know you had muscles," Laura was momentarily dazzled. Elliott had been hiding his physique well.
Elliott gave her a cold glare and quickly put on his pajamas, "Don't you have hands? Can't you knock before coming in? We're not kids anymore."
"I was just in a hurry to ask you something." Laura stuck out her tongue, "Are you really going to marry Isadora? Do you like her?"
"There's nothing to dislike. I'm getting married anyway." Elliott paused, "She did save my life, and she's quite capable at work."
Laura was speechless, "You're looking for a wife, not a secretary. You don't have to marry her just because she saved you."
Elliott ignored her and started unbuckling his watch.
"If you get married, there will be no chance with Julia. Think it through." Laura suddenly said, "I'm your sister, and I have experience. Two people need to have feelings for each other. Marrying for the sake of marriage, or for kids or gratitude, is not advisable."
Elliott opened a drawer and put his watch inside, "Fine, but do you think marrying Julia would be advisable?"
He straightened up and turned to face Laura, his eyes cold, "Laura, whose sister are you? Let me tell you again, Julia and I will never happen."
With that, Elliott turned and went to the bathroom to shower.
Laura took a deep breath and returned to her bedroom.
Soon after, Derek called. After they both finished their evening tasks, they usually had long conversations, "Baby, I've been reading since the afternoon and haven't had dinner yet."
"You haven't had dinner? Can't you cook for yourself? You have hands, don't you?" Laura huffed, "You're a grown man, and you're still going hungry. How can you even tell me that? You're not a child."
Derek could tell Laura was in a bad mood.
"Did I upset you?" Derek cautiously began to reflect.
"No." Laura realized her tone was too harsh and sighed, "It's just that Elliott is getting married, and I was trying to give him some advice."
"What? Elliott is getting married? To whom?" Derek was shocked. He hadn't heard that Elliott had a girlfriend.
"Elliott's assistant. She saved him, so he's marrying her." Laura said, "My parents are okay with it too. Both families are well-matched, but I think people should marry for love. Marriage isn't a game. Elliott doesn't understand my good intentions. He was so cold to me when I tried to advise him."
"Elliott has always been cold. Don't take it to heart." Derek comforted.
"You're probably right."
"Baby, I think I'll go cook some noodles. I'll talk to you later."
Derek hung up the phone.
He wasn't that hungry; he just needed to inform Julia about this.
He quickly dialed Julia's number, "Where are you?"
"Working late."
Derek was speechless, "Are you planning to dedicate your whole life to work? You're always working late. Do you know what time it is? Let me tell you, if you keep this up, your man is going to get married."
Julia rubbed her temples, her mind still on the data she was working on, "Who?"
Derek laughed, "How many men do you have? Elliott, of course. I just heard from Laura that Elliott almost had an accident at the factory, and a female assistant saved him. He's decided to marry her. Both families agree, and they're going to discuss marriage soon."
Julia remained silent.
This time, her mind wasn't on data; she was caught off guard by the news.
Marriage?
Her mind was a bit foggy.
When she came to her senses, it felt like a huge chunk had been dug out of her chest. Her already empty heart felt even emptier.
"Anyway, I told you the news as soon as I heard it. Think it over. If you don't act now, once Elliott gets married and has kids, you'll have no chance."
Derek, having experienced this himself, understood the helpless and desperate feeling of seeing someone you love get married.
He was just lucky that Michael didn't cherish Laura, giving him a chance.
But Julia couldn't wait for Elliott to get divorced. What if Elliott never got divorced?
Would Julia be alone forever?
"Let me think about it."
Julia quickly ended the call but didn't get up. She sat quietly in her chair.
After a long time, she opened a drawer and took out a small box.
Inside was a very simple and small diamond ring.
Even after all these years, the diamond still shone brightly.
She would never forget that shortly after they started dating, Elliott had worked hard at a job and used his first paycheck to buy her this ring.
All these years, she had kept the ring close to her.
But what about him?
Had he already drifted far away from her?
That night, Julia sat in her office the entire night.
At dawn, she finally made a call.
