Chapter 1632 The Jealousy Seems Quite Intense
Noah blinked in surprise, "I treat Cassie the same way. If that's the case, wouldn't Joseph beat me to death?"
"Good thing you don't like her."
Lucas nodded slightly. After all, Derek was Laura's boyfriend. If Noah and Derek became rivals in love, Noah's fate wouldn't be too good.
Derek, when he gets sneaky, even Lucas might not be a match for him.
"Of course not. I knew Laura before Michael did. If I liked Laura, I would have been with her a long time ago. There wouldn't be any Michael and Benjamin." Noah chuckled.
"You're quite confident in yourself," Lucas laughed lightly. "To be honest, when you helped Cassie back then, I thought you liked her too."
"We're all from the Silverwood circle. Cassie and I are from the same hometown. She and Laura are both pretty innocent girls. I couldn't stand seeing them bullied by you guys." Noah glared at him. "I see them as my best friends, got it? There can be pure friendship between men and women."
"I don't get it."
Lucas shook his head and smirked. "By the way, after all these years, your personality of getting along well with women hasn't changed. Maybe you don't actually like women; maybe you like men."
"You guessed it, Mr. Nelson. How do you think I look? Let's make love tonight." Noah pounced.
"Get lost."
The next day.
Derek went on a business trip out of town.
Laura hadn't spent time with her parents for a long time, so she went home every day after work to be with them and Maeve. Sometimes, she even took her parents to the nearby mall in the evenings.
Even Elliott, who usually loved working overtime, started coming home early every day.
One day, as soon as Laura walked in, she saw a pair of unfamiliar men's dress shoes at the door.
"Do we have a guest?"
After changing her shoes, she saw Noah sitting at the tea table by the floor-to-ceiling window, chatting and laughing with Luke.
"Noah's here," Rose winked at her.
Laura remained silent.
Completely unaware, Noah waved grandly, "Hi, Laura. Surprised? Unexpected?"
"Why haven't you gone back to Silverwood?" Laura asked, amused.
"What do you mean? Don't you want to see me?" Noah raised his left eyebrow, looking hurt.
"Of course not. How could I dislike someone as charming as you?" Laura joked.
"I haven't been to Whisperlyn City for a while. Yesterday, Joseph invited me to his place, and the day before, I hung out with Lucas. You wouldn't believe it, Lucas invited a bunch of company artists over, all of them were beauties." Noah crossed his arms, looking nostalgic.
Laura couldn't help but think of her good friend Bernice and glared at him, "Did you fancy any of those beauties? You must have enjoyed yourself, Noah."
"Forget it. Drinking and singing with them is fine, but anything else isn't for me." Noah laughed heartily. "I don't have a habit of being a sugar daddy."
Luke's eyes also showed a smile, and he nodded, "Those occasions are for experience, but those women aren't suitable for a long-term relationship."
"Luke, you sound just like my grandpa," Noah teased.
"Your grandpa is also worried about your marriage," Luke laughed. "You're not young anymore; it's time to settle down."
"Luke, you're more anxious than my dad," Noah said, exasperated.
After dinner, Noah stayed a bit longer to play chess with Luke. It was only after eight o'clock that he prepared to leave.
"Laura, go see Noah off," Rose gently pushed Laura.
Laura was speechless. Luke and Rose were being too obvious tonight.
But since Rose had said so, it wouldn't be polite for Laura not to see him off.
Noah's car was parked in the yard. As Laura walked him out through the garden, Noah suddenly chuckled, "I say, your parents aren't trying to set us up, are they?"
Laura felt awkward, "Don't mind them. They just like to meddle. I'm a divorced woman; how could I be a match for you, Noah?"
"Don't say that. Even though you're divorced, your career is doing better than mine, and you're the President's goddaughter. If I were to be with you, I'd be the one reaching up." Noah quickly said, "But I can tell you don't have feelings for me. I don't like to force people."
"Forget it," Laura rolled her eyes. "Don't make it sound so nice. I'm not your type either."
"You're so lacking in confidence?" Noah said playfully.
"It's not that I'm lacking in confidence. I just think if we were going to like each other, it wouldn't have taken until now."
Noah smiled, "I like being friends with beautiful women."
"Get lost," Laura said bluntly.
"I'm leaving. Next time, treat me to a meal."
Noah drove off gracefully.
After taking Maeve upstairs, Laura checked her phone and saw a Facebook message from Derek an hour ago: [Do you have a guest at home?]
She was puzzled and called him, "How did you know we had a guest?"
"You took so long to reply," Derek said, displeased.
"I just didn't check my phone. You haven't answered my question."
"I saw your mom's Facebook post." Derek paused before speaking again, "Was it Noah?"
"Did my mom post a picture of Noah?" Laura said as she opened Facebook. She quickly found the photo Rose had posted. It was a table full of dishes, with Noah's hand reaching for food in the shot.
"I recognized Noah's watch," Derek revealed. No one knew how frustrated he felt. He was so distracted at tonight's social event.
"You have a good memory."
"When it comes to single men around my girlfriend, my observational skills go through the roof," Derek said gloomily.
Laura was taken aback, "Are you jealous?"
Derek chuckled, "You finally noticed. You guys seem pretty close, singing and drinking together, and he even came to your house for dinner. Your parents must like him a lot."
This jealousy seemed quite intense.
Laura was speechless, "We are close. He's my friend, and he's also close with Cassie. Joseph isn't jealous."
"If you made our relationship public and married me, I wouldn't be jealous either."
Laura: "If I liked Noah, I would have liked him a long time ago. There wouldn't be any room for you."
"Who knows? Maybe after your failed marriage with Michael, you think a familiar friend is more reliable," Derek continued in a strange tone.
"Is that so? Maybe I should choose that familiar friend then."
