Chapter 1624 My Darling
When getting into the car, Laura's heart was still pounding with anxiety.
This feeling of secretly being in love at the Presidential Palace would drive her crazy sooner or later.
Not long after, Derek sent a message on Facebook: [Miss you.]
That Facebook message was so hot it almost made Laura throw her phone away.
After Laura arrived at the company, it didn't take long for an assistant to bring her a bouquet of flowers. "Laura, someone sent you a bouquet of flowers."
Laura put down the test tube in her hand, took off her gloves, and held the flowers wrapped in pink paper. Inside, there wasn't just one type of flower; there were hydrangeas, eustomas, tulips, and other beautiful flowers arranged together. They were very pretty and fragrant.
There was a small card on top. She opened it and read: [Miss you, my darling.]
Such sweet words could only come from Derek; she couldn't think of anyone else.
She took a photo of the flowers with her phone and sent it to Derek: [Did you send these?]
Derek: [Do you like them, my darling?]
Laura: [I love them.]
Then she sent a blowing kiss emoji.
She personally put the flowers into a vase.
Her colleagues envied her, saying, "Wow, these flowers are so beautiful. They must be from your boyfriend, right?"
"Laura, when will you let your boyfriend treat us to a meal?"
Laura's fingers stiffened slightly, feeling a bit guilty.
Her colleagues in the lab had seen Derek, but no one knew his identity. If they had a meal together and someone asked about his job, it might expose him. "Maybe someday, he's very busy with work right now."
"That's true. It seems like he hasn't come to pick you up recently. By the way, Laura, what does your boyfriend do?"
"Just an ordinary office employee. I hope everyone can keep it a secret. We're just dating for now."
"Got it. You're still young; there's no need to rush into another marriage."
These colleagues were open-minded and didn't pressure her with the idea that women should marry early.
"Laura, someone sent you flowers again." The assistant, who had just left not long ago, returned, this time holding a large bouquet of pink roses.
"Wow, Laura, you're quite charming lately," her colleagues joked.
Laura forced a smile. After taking the flowers, she saw the card on them read: [If there were a time machine in this world, I would go back to the past and cherish the old you.]
A wave of disgust surged from her heart.
Without hesitation, she handed the flowers back to the assistant. "Take them out and throw them away for me."
The assistant was stunned and hesitantly said, "It's a pity to throw away such beautiful flowers. Can I use them to decorate the office outside?"
"Do as you like."
Laura didn't insist. She hated the person who sent the flowers, but it had nothing to do with the flowers themselves. As long as they weren't in front of her, it was fine.
In the following days, Michael sent flowers every day.
Laura really didn't want to deal with him, not even interested in calling to curse him out.
However, during a meeting on Wednesday, Cassie announced, "The Ocean Blue group has agreed to our acquisition. We'll sign the contract this Friday."
"That's great."
The entire conference room cheered.
The marketing manager said, "We thought this acquisition would take months. We didn't expect it to be completed in a week. It's such a surprise."
"The Ocean Blue group is already at the end of its rope. Continuing to hold on would only waste more money," Cassie said with a faint smile. "Alright, once the acquisition of the Ocean Blue group is successful, there will be significant personnel changes within the company. Of course, our DreamDazzle Beauty Co.'s status in the country will also rise to a new level. Marketing, make sure the public knows about this acquisition and that the owner of the Ocean Blue group will no longer be Michael but DreamDazzle Beauty Co."
"After the acquisition, do we need to remove the Ocean Blue group's counters in the malls?"
"No need to remove the counters, but all products will be switched to DreamDazzle Beauty Co's."
After the meeting, as the executives gradually left, Laura spoke up, "Can I skip the contract signing this time? You're the company leader; you can go. I don't want to see Michael."
"But you're the founder and legal representative of the company. If you don't go, the Ocean Blue group has a reason to refuse to sign," Cassie said, leaning on the desk and looking at her. "Do you know why the acquisition happened so quickly? Because of Michael's cooperation. Otherwise, with other companies also wanting to acquire, it would have taken at least a few more months."
Laura said bitterly, "I used to want to acquire the Ocean Blue group to humiliate Michael, but now I feel it's unnecessary. He always wants to reconcile with me. Honestly, it disgusts me. Doesn't he have any self-awareness?"
"Don't think about that. The acquisition of the Ocean Blue group will save us a lot of resources and quickly expand our business," Cassie said seriously. "Don't forget, we initially said we wanted to grow DreamDazzle Beauty Co. and go international."
Laura fell silent.
She couldn't avoid her responsibilities just because she disliked Michael.
Friday came quickly.
She and Cassie, along with the company's legal department lawyer and Blake, went to the Ocean Blue group.
Knowing that the Ocean Blue group was about to change ownership, most employees stood at the entrance, anxiously waiting.
Many employees were familiar with Laura. She had worked there before and had even been the lady of the Ocean Blue group.
Laura and her team made their way to the conference room, where Michael and several executives had been waiting for a while.
"Laura, have a seat," Michael quickly walked over and pulled out a chair for her, his beautiful eyes gentle as water.
"Michael, I'm here today to sign the contract on behalf of the company," Laura said, pulling out another chair and sitting down.
Michael's handsome face stiffened slightly.
His assistant quickly said, "We've already had the lawyers draft the contract. Please take a look."
Laura didn't move, but Cassie took the contract and, along with the lawyer they brought, began to carefully review it.
An employee brought over some water, and Michael got up to place a cup in front of Laura. "The price has been agreed upon. The remaining issue is the retention of company employees."
"Ms. Brooks will handle that," Laura said indifferently. "I only handle the R&D department."
Seeing her cold demeanor, Michael couldn't help but purse his lips. "Maeve had a great time at my place the other day. Tomorrow, I—"
"Michael, we're only discussing business now, not personal matters," Laura interrupted impatiently.
Michael tightened his grip on the cup. "Then let's talk business. What are your plans for the Ocean Blue group after the acquisition?"
"That's part of our company's future plans. I'm sorry, but I can't tell you." Laura stood up. "I'm going to the restroom."
Michael watched her back, filled with regret.
Why couldn't she give him a bit of kindness after all this?
