Chapter 1188 Are You a Piece of Rock?
"Besides, I really don't want to be a plaything for you men." Bernice raised her hand and unfastened her watch, revealing a deep knife scar. "It is from my last relationship. Everyone said I was after Gary's status, but I genuinely loved him. When he didn't want me, I chose to commit suicide, only to be mocked by him. He thought I did it to gain his sympathy."
Lucas looked at the scar on her wrist with a hint of astonishment. It was deep. He couldn't understand why Bernice would attempt suicide.
He pondered, 'How much does she love that scumbag Gary?'
"I'm not Gary," Lucas said in a low voice, "Gary wanted your heart and body, but I only want your body."
Bernice was taken aback for a moment, then suddenly laughed a bit bitterly. "Are you saying that I have no personal charm?"
Lucas's deep eyes revealed a cryptic look. "Maybe."
"Forget it. I stepped into this circle, and some people choose shortcuts. I can undress in front of you, and tomorrow, I can undress in front of another man." Bernice shook her head. "If I have to live like that, I'd rather leave."
"As a washed-up star, do you know how many people will laugh at you?" Lucas mocked.
"I know. Some stars switch careers to become teachers or even salespeople. But that's still a job. Even if they earn three or four thousand dollars a month, it's enough to live on," Bernice said calmly.
Lucas stared at her, realizing she was telling the truth.
He had encountered many women, all striving to climb higher, with Sarah being the most ruthless among them.
However, Bernice was different. She was like a clear pool of water, cold and clear.
Bernice didn't look at him anymore. She packed her things into her suitcase and zipped it up. "Mr. Nelson, if you like staying here, stay. I'm going back to Whisperlyn City."
As she reached for her suitcase, a slender hand grabbed the suitcase faster.
"What a coincidence. I need to go back, too. Let's go together," Lucas said, glancing at her.
"You must be mistaken. You should be picking up Sarah," Bernice said, trying to pull her suitcase but unable to move it. Mr. Nelson, if someone sees me with you, it will be very troublesome for me."
"Aren't you prepared to leave the circle and find another job? Why are you afraid of trouble?" Lucas smirked, looking amused.
Bernice said, "If Sarah finds out, even if I leave the circle and find another job, she won't let me go."
"That's your problem," Lucas said, dragging her suitcase out.
Bernice hurriedly followed, and they started pulling at the suitcase in the hallway.
"Do you really want people to see this?" Lucas raised an eyebrow.
Bernice had to follow him downstairs and get into his car.
The driver, seeing Bernice, didn't show much expression and quickly started the car.
Bernice had to text Stella, saying she had left first.
The drive back to Whisperlyn City took about an hour and a half.
Bernice looked at her phone for a while, feeling uncomfortable, and eventually closed her eyes.
She had stayed up late reading a script last night and soon fell asleep.
Lucas look at her. Bernice's head was resting against the window. Her eyes were closed, her eyelashes thick like feathers, and her nose small but prominent. Her face was delicate.
He watched her for a while.
The driver noticed and deliberately made a turn.
Bernice's head immediately tilted towards him, resting on his shoulder.
Lucas glanced at the driver, who smiled awkwardly. After all, he had been with Lucas for many years and understood him well.
Lucas hadn't intended to sleep with Bernice.
When Bernice mentioned Nina, he dismissed the idea.
Bernice was different. She was Nina's friend.
But now, with Bernice leaning on his shoulder, her hair smelled just like Nina's.
It was strange that he still remembered Nina's scent.
Lucas gripped his phone tightly. Every time he thought of Nina, his heart felt like it was being squeezed.
Recently, this feeling had become stronger.
After more than an hour, Bernice woke up because the car had stopped.
She groggily opened her eyes and suddenly realized she was leaning on Lucas's shoulder.
She looked up and met Lucas's amused dark eyes. "Is my shoulder comfortable?"
Bernice frowned in frustration. She had intended to keep her distance but ended up leaning on him while sleeping. "Sorry, I slept too deeply."
"My shoulder is sore from you leaning on it." Lucas raised an eyebrow. "Don't you think you owe me something?"
"I'll make more money for your company," Bernice said, looking out the window and realizing they were at her house.
She pondered, 'How does he know I live here? Oh, the company has my address. Lucas really is omnipotent.'
"Money?" Lucas smirked. "Sorry, money is the last thing I need."
"Then I really can't help you," Bernice said, opening the car door to get out.
A hand suddenly grabbed her wrist and pulled her into his chest.
"Lucas, let go," Bernice instinctively pushed herself up, only to hear Lucas's sharp intake of breath.
"Bernice, where is your hand?" Lucas asked hoarsely.
Bernice looked down. She was careful not to touch the most inappropriate place. Her hand was on his thigh, but his reaction was a bit intense.
She was stunned and blurted out, "Lucas, isn't Sarah enough for you?"
"Bernice, how many times have you seduced me today? I had to hold back every time," Lucas said with a wicked and sinister smile.
Bernice was about to speak, but Lucas interrupted her, "Don't explain. I went to your room to talk, but you were showering. You even came out of the bathroom without clothes. In the car, you slept on my shoulder. You should know I'm a horny man."
He whispered the last few words in her ear, full of ambiguity.
But Bernice didn't feel the ambiguity. She frowned, feeling a bit disgusted by him.
Lucas saw her expression and was genuinely angry. "Bernice, are you a piece of rock?"
He cursed inwardly, 'Come on! Even a man would have some reaction.'
