Chapter 1245 I Would Rather Have Never Had a Mother
No matter how tough Cassie was, she couldn't stop the tears from falling.
Isabella knew Cassie was her daughter, but she wanted nothing to do with her. Like, seriously?
Was that what she was getting at?
"Alright, Isabella, if you don't wanna acknowledge me, cool. But can I ask, what did I ever do to piss you off?" Cassie asked, her voice all choked up. "Why are you so hell-bent on screwing over the Hernandez group? Even now, the Hernandez group got taken over in some shady deal, and you guys are behind it, right? What did I ever do to you?"
"Enough, Cassie, cut the act." Isabella's eyes were full of disgust. "You know exactly what you did. I'm warning you, stay away from Everett and Declan, or not just you, but everyone around you will pay."
"I'm already paying," Cassie finally broke down and yelled, "You don't wanna acknowledge me, fine. But why back a snake like Olivia? I'm your flesh and blood."
Isabella slapped her.
"You must be addicted to playing the victim, thinking you can fool everyone," she said coldly, then dragged Everett away.
Declan's lips moved, but seeing Isabella's furious face, he didn't want to stir the pot, so he quickly followed.
In the café, people were pointing and whispering about Cassie.
Luckily, the place wasn't too crowded.
"Is she a mistress?"
"What mistress? Didn't you see her kid too?"
"But why did she hit her? There must be a reason."
Cassie couldn't hear what they were saying. Her face stung, and her leg burned from the hot coffee.
But no pain compared to the ache in her heart.
Why did it have to be like this? Why did Isabella hate her so much?
If she had known, she would've preferred Isabella to have died over twenty years ago.
It would've been better than reuniting as mother and daughter, only to be met with disgust and two slaps.
"Here's your bill, Miss." A waiter hesitantly approached, looking sympathetic.
"Give it here." Cassie paid.
She dazedly took the elevator downstairs.
After getting down, she sat in her car, motionless, unable to accept the reality.
She felt so sad, wanted to cry, but couldn't call Joseph. She knew his situation was probably worse than hers.
She couldn't face telling him that all of this was brought on by her own mother.
It was too ridiculous.
Finally, she couldn't help but call Aiden, "Dad."
As soon as she spoke, she choked up.
Aiden was startled. "Cassie, what's wrong? Are you worried about the Hernandez group? Don't stress it. My company is doing fine. I can support you if needed."
"It's not that." Hearing Aiden's concerned voice, compared to Isabella's harsh and cold words, Cassie felt even worse. "Dad, I just wanna know, is my mom... really that great?"
She didn't want to admit that the crazy woman from earlier was her mom.
Aiden was stunned, not getting why she suddenly said this. "Cassie, of course, your mom is great."
"Dad, maybe she was great twenty years ago, but what about now? Who knows what she's turned into? Maybe in her heart, I've always been a burden. She might even wish I'd just disappear," Cassie said with a tearful, mocking smile.
"Cassie, what's going on?" Aiden's heart tightened. "Did you meet Isabella?"
"Yeah," Cassie touched her swollen face and said softly, "She looks a lot like the photos you have. She's well-maintained, looks like she's in her thirties. She has a handsome, wealthy husband and a beautiful, charming son. She acted like a total shrew, slapped me twice, and threw coffee in my face. She hates me, says I'm acting, says I want to seduce her husband, says she doesn't want anything to do with me."
Aiden was stunned.
Even though he had come to terms with the possibility of Isabella remarrying and having kids, his heart still ached.
But compared to what Isabella did to Cassie, those feelings were nothing.
Aiden said, "Cassie, you must be mistaken. It's impossible."
The Isabella he knew wouldn't do such a thing.
"I'm not mistaken. She knows I'm her daughter. She even helped Olivia against me. You don't know, the Hernandez group has been targeted and maliciously acquired recently, all orchestrated by her and Olivia," Cassie cried out in pain, "I would rather never have had a mother. You said my mom was great, and I could imagine that. But her appearance shattered all my beautiful fantasies about a mother."
"Cassie, don't be like this. Calm down." Aiden was heartbroken. It was the first time he saw Cassie so out of control. He understood Cassie's fantasies about Isabella. "This can't be. Olivia is so bad to you. How could she help Olivia and not you? Olivia is at most her niece."
Cassie was stunned.
Aiden's words made her calm down a bit.
Aiden added, "Even if she doesn't want to acknowledge you as her daughter and wants to erase the past, there's no need to help a niece against you. You mentioned before that Olivia is cunning and deceitful. Could there be some misunderstanding?"
Cassie was a bit confused. 'A misunderstanding?'
Aiden said with a heavy heart, "Cassie, maybe people change, but when I knew your mother, she was kind. And I'm curious, we didn't know your mom was alive. How did Olivia know?"
Cassie's mind flashed. 'Yeah, how did Olivia know Isabella was alive? Could it be that Olivia went abroad these years to find Isabella?'
Calming down, she suddenly found the whole thing strange.
Isabella might not like her, but Robert and Helen killed Natalie, and Isabella still got them out of prison.
What trick did Olivia use to deceive Isabella?
Aiden sighed. "Do you know where your mom lives now? Maybe I should go talk to her."
