Chapter 1103 Showing Off

"Alright, stop giving him a hard time. He's already feeling down," Lucas said, seeing Michael's dejected look. "Besides, didn't Megan fool you for over a decade too? At least Michael didn't spend any money on her."

Joseph shot Lucas a cold look, unsure whose side he was on.

Lucas just shrugged and smiled.

Michael looked up, touched. "Thanks, Lucas. At least I was only emotionally deceived, and my money's still safe. I've been so lost these past few days, feeling like life was pointless. Now I see I'm luckier than Joseph. I should be grateful."

"Glad you see it that way," Lucas sighed. "Honestly, the three of us were all played by Megan."

"Yeah," Michael said bitterly, looking down. "To Megan, I was just a backup. Do you think I'm that bad? I feel like she looks down on me."

"No way," Joseph sneered. "She's just vain and power-hungry. Do you think she ever really liked me? The Megan you saw is just one side of her."

"What do you mean?" Michael asked.

Joseph glanced at him. "Cassie told me she had someone follow Rex. Later, her people saw Rex get killed by an assassin from Neya City. Those assassins only take orders from the Chamberlain family and David in Whisperlyn City. They didn't know Rex, so why kill him? Simple. Megan wanted him dead. She must have ties with the Chamberlain family or David."

Michael was shocked. "But Megan said Rex threatened her, and his death had nothing to do with her."

"You still believe her?" Joseph said mockingly.

Michael's heart sank. Of course, he didn't believe her. But the idea of Megan being involved with the Chamberlain family or David was chilling.

Marcus had schemed to steal the Hernandez family's chip data, and David's true nature had been exposed.

These people were all scum without morals.

Joseph calmly reminded him, "If Megan's sugar daddy ever dumps her, and you regain favor within the Jude family, she'll come back to you. Be aware and stay away from Megan. If you can't, then don't pursue Laura."

Michael pouted. "I'm not an idiot."

"You are an idiot," Joseph said firmly.

Michael was so angry his butt hurt again. "Joseph, come on! Stop putting me down."

Joseph stayed expressionless. "Laura is Cassie's good friend. I've finally gotten back together with Cassie, and I don't want your situation with Laura to mess things up for me."

"Really?" Michael was extremely surprised.

"Yeah," Joseph squinted. "When we hang out, treat Cassie with respect. She doesn't owe you or Megan anything. I don't owe Megan either. I used to not stand up for Cassie when you targeted her, and that drove us apart. My bad. If it happens again, I'll kick your ass."

Michael sighed. "Are you here to visit or threaten me? I'm your best friend."

"I used to put you first, which meant Oliver and Sophia grew up without a dad. I almost lost them and Cassie. Not happening again." Joseph paused, then switched gears. "Cassie is smart, calm, and wise. She often sees things before we do. She's been in business for years. We should listen to her. I got fooled because I didn't."

Michael and Lucas were speechless.

"Joseph, are you here to brag about Cassie?" Lucas finally said.

"Am I wrong?" Joseph shot back. "If you were calm and wise, why did you believe Megan? Sometimes we need a rational person to ground us. And you, Lucas, marrying Sarah? Are you nuts? Did you forget what Noah said about her?"

Lucas rubbed his forehead. "You never cared about me and Sarah before. What's gotten into you?"

Joseph said, "Cassie told me Sarah kicked her when she was down. I didn't believe it then, but now I do. Sarah doesn't deserve you."

A dark look crossed Lucas's face. After a moment, he chuckled. "Yeah, Sarah doesn't deserve me. So, who does?"

Joseph frowned. "In marriage and love, status and position are secondary. What's important is if you love each other."

Lucas shook his head and smiled. "I'm not interested in love. But people like us will eventually marry and have kids to continue the family line. Whether Sarah is good or not doesn't matter. If it's not Sarah, it'll be someone else like her. Every woman around me has been scheming."

Joseph fell silent.

Michael said, "Looks like Lucas is more heartbroken than me."

"You're overthinking," Lucas scoffed. "I don't know how to love, and I've never loved anyone."

"Really?" Joseph said thoughtfully. "Loving someone is instinctual. No one loses that for no reason."

Michael was stunned. "Lucas, have you been hurt before?"

"No!" Lucas shot them a cold glance. "I've talked enough. I have to get to work."

"I need to pick up Cassie," Joseph checked the time, smiling. "If I let her wait too long, she might get upset."

Michael was frustrated. "You can't go a moment without showing off your love!"
