Chapter 27 Chance to bid

"Have you ever thought about going back to Height Architectural Decoration Company?"

Cassie shook her head sadly. "I can't always rely on others; it's more practical to work hard for myself."

Joseph was surprised that few people around him were as clear-headed and insightful as she was.

"Stop picking them up," Joseph said.

"No way," Cassie replied without hesitation. "The company isn't doing well; I can't lose the flyers. Besides, if I leave them, the sanitation workers will have a hard time cleaning up."

As soon as she finished speaking, a long, slender hand picked up a flyer in front of her.

"I'll help you," Joseph said, squatting down. As he reached out, his sleeve revealed a watch she had never seen before.

She glanced at Joseph's bent legs and suddenly remembered the scene of him with the towel that night. Her face instantly felt hot.

"What's wrong with you? Your face is so red," Joseph observed.

"I'm just hot, maybe a bit sunburned," Cassie stammered, looking down.

Joseph frowned. "Go stand under the tree."

"No need," Cassie quickly shook her head.

After about five minutes of picking up the flyers, they finally gathered them all.

As Cassie stood up, she suddenly felt dizzy and stumbled forward.

Just as she was about to fall, a strong hand pulled her up.

She steadied herself and met Joseph's probing gaze.

"I might have squatted for too long," Cassie said, wiping the sweat from her forehead.

"Get in the car," Joseph said, opening the car door. "I'll take you home."

"I still have to hand out flyers. I'll rest for a bit and then continue," Cassie insisted.

Joseph was annoyed, thinking to himself, 'She is so stubborn. Does she want to get heatstroke?'

"It's almost noon. Dakota needs to have lunch. Didn't you say you wouldn't miss its meals?"

"I made its lunch at home before I came out this morning," Cassie pouted.

Joseph raised an eyebrow. "You actually let it eat cold food?"

Cassie thought Dakota wasn't as picky as he was. She could only get in the car.

Halfway through the ride, she received a call from her boss. She had to lie, "There weren't many people at that site, so I switched to another one."

"Alright, keep it up. No matter how good a designer you are, if you can't bring in clients, it's useless."

"I'll work hard," she said quietly before hanging up.

Joseph glanced at her. He had heard her boss's voice clearly in the enclosed car. "I suggest you look for another job."

Cassie gave a bitter smile. "It's the same everywhere. The beginning is always the hardest."

Joseph tapped the steering wheel and said nothing more.

They passed by a uniquely styled building, and he casually asked, "What's that place?"

"Silverwood Science and Culture Center Hall," Cassie replied, suddenly remembering something. "It was just completed not long ago. Height Architectural Decoration Company wanted to win the bid for its construction but lost to another company. I was thinking about getting the contract for its interior design, but now that's out of the question."

"Why?"

"They have an open bidding process. Small companies like the one I work for don't even qualify to bid."

"Even if you qualified, the company you work for wouldn't stand a chance."

"That's impossible," Cassie said confidently. "I won the AM Grand Prize in Austin before. Many companies invited me to work for them back then. I only returned to Height Architectural Decoration Company because I thought I was destined to inherit the family business. I can confidently say that no one in Silverwood can match my design skills."

Joseph smirked. "Alright, I can give you a chance to bid."
