Chapter 1409 He Could Even Forget His Wife and Child

In the villa.

Laura stared at her phone, waiting forever for a reply. With a sigh, she finally put it down.

Downstairs, Maeve's wailing was still going strong.

After a bit, she got up and headed downstairs, taking Maeve from Thea. "Here, let me hold her."

The second Maeve was in her arms, she stopped crying, just pouting and whimpering, looking all kinds of pitiful.

Even though Maeve was just a little thing, she knew exactly who her favorite person was.

Thea sighed, "Maeve's usually a breeze, but she might be a bit gassy tonight. Kids get like that sometimes; it'll pass. It's just a bummer she won't let me hold her when she's fussy. If only Michael were here."

"It's cool, Thea. You go catch some Z's. If I can't handle it, I'll holler." Laura hated seeing Thea, who was over fifty, working so hard.

"Alright, but what about Michael? When's he coming back?"

"Not sure, he's probably still at some event." Laura looked down, hiding her feelings.

Maeve fussed until two or three in the morning before finally dozing off in her arms, but she couldn't put her down. The second she did, Maeve would wake up.

She had to hold Maeve, leaning against the pillow, half-asleep.

Sometimes she'd check her phone, but there was nothing.

Michael hadn't replied to any messages.

She wanted to be mad, but she couldn't take it out on the kid, so she had to bottle it up.

Laura barely made it to around five in the morning when Maeve finally fell into a deep sleep.

Laura lay in bed but couldn't sleep at all.

The next morning, Thea saw her and felt bad, "Why don't you sleep a bit more? It's okay to go to work a little later; your health is the most important."

"I'll come back to sleep in the afternoon. I have some stuff to do this morning." Laura glanced inside the villa.

Thea immediately got it, "Michael didn't come back all night, did he? He must be swamped. Recently, the Jude Family handed him a big project. I heard the president wants him to quickly establish a presence in the global market. Michael must be under a lot of pressure."

"I get it." Laura smiled and changed the subject, "Is there breakfast?"

"Yeah, just a sec."

After breakfast, Laura drove out, grabbed another breakfast on the street, and then headed to Michael's branch office.

She got there around nine.

The receptionist was a bit surprised to see her, "Are you here to see Mr. Aaron Jude or Mr. Michael Jude? Mr. Michael Jude hasn't come to the office yet today."

"It's cool, I'll wait for him in his office. I brought him breakfast." Laura said with a smile.

"Mr. Michael Jude is really lucky. By the way, his office is on the 19th floor."

"Thanks."

As Laura turned to the elevator, her face turned cold and distant.

When she reached the 19th floor, Magnus, who was organizing some documents, saw her and was startled, "Mrs. Jude, what brings you here?"

"Bringing breakfast." Laura glanced into the office, "Michael said he had a social event with Cassius last night. I figured he didn't rest well, so I brought breakfast."

"Yeah, Michael worked late. Cassius is on Austin time, so our night is their day. Michael had to roll with his schedule."

"So, where's Michael now? Still snoozing? He didn't pick up his phone."

"He's at the hotel," Magnus said with a forced smile. "Why don't you leave the breakfast with me? I'll pass it on to him later."

Laura frowned, thinking it over. "If he drank all night, he's probably feeling like crap. Just tell me the hotel, and I'll go check on him."

"I'm not sure which hotel he's at. He told me to leave first last night. He didn't seem drunk, so I bailed early since I had to be here this morning."

Magnus didn't dare spill the beans. If she found out Michael spent the night at Megan's, their marriage might be toast.

But he really didn't expect Michael not to go home last night.

Michael must be out of his mind.

Magnus felt a bit sorry for Laura.

"Alright, I'll leave the breakfast with you. I gotta get to work."

Laura handed him the breakfast.

She kept it together until she got in the car, where she broke down.

Maybe Magnus was telling the truth, but no matter what, a husband not coming home all night without a word would make anyone suspicious.

Michael had been good to her recently.

But lately, he had been making her very uneasy.

An hour after she left, Michael rushed into the office.

Magnus said, "Mrs. Jude brought you breakfast this morning. Have you eaten? It's cold now. Want me to heat it up?"

Michael looked at the breakfast on the table, feeling guilty. But he had already eaten a lot with Megan in the morning and couldn't eat more. "No, I've eaten."

"Should I toss it?" Magnus asked tentatively.

"Leave it. I'll have it for lunch." Michael scratched his head. "Magnus, find a trustworthy nanny to take care of Megan. She hurt her leg, so I can't leave her alone."

"Okay."

After responding, Magnus frowned. "Michael, I know you feel bad for Megan, but you can't be with her all night."

"I had no choice. She hurt her foot and had a fever last night. I couldn't just leave her there," Michael said irritably.

"You could've called me to help." Magnus didn't really want to handle these things after work, but he didn't want to see Michael's marriage fall apart either.

Michael's lips tightened slightly.

He had thought about calling Magnus, but Megan kept holding his hand, and later in the night, he fell asleep on the bed in a daze.

"How long will it take? If you can't get someone to take care of her today, you need to go over there this afternoon. She still seemed pretty sick when I left this morning," Michael said.

Magnus was shocked. What did he mean? Was his assistant job turning into taking care of Megan?

Magnus was annoyed. "I'll arrange for a nanny ASAP."

After Magnus left, Michael quickly called Laura. "Laura, I'm sorry. Last night, I put my phone on silent. Then I lost track of time. When I realized it, it was already early morning, and I didn't want to disturb your rest."

As he explained, Michael felt really guilty but also helpless.

"How can you forget me and Maeve?" Laura chuckled softly. How could she not be angry? Bringing breakfast in the morning was just a test.

"Honey, I'm sorry. I promise I won't make the same mistake again. I'll be home on time after work today. Let's go see a movie tonight," Michael pleaded.
