Chapter 1139 Michael's Mockery

Michael stayed quiet, which was basically giving in.

Benjamin's mind was spinning. He couldn't figure out what Laura had said to Michael, asking, "Mr. Jude, don't you like Megan?"

He thought, 'If Michael likes Megan, why is he helping Laura and coming after me?'

Benjamin wanted answers but didn't realize his comment hit a nerve with Michael.

Everyone knew he liked Megan, but she had betrayed him.

"None of your business," Michael snapped, looking pissed.

Benjamin couldn't hold back. "Mr. Jude, you were part of the Jude family, yet you talk like this?"

"Who says being from a noble family means I can't be rude?" Michael shot back, eyes full of sarcasm. "You might be polite, but I could never date two women at once like you."

"You don't know the whole story," Benjamin said, frustrated but calm. "Mr. Jude, if you don't mind, can I explain what happened between Laura and me?"

Michael took a sip of water, not interrupting or resisting.

A hint of bitterness crossed Benjamin's face. "Laura and I were college classmates. I was her senior. She chased me. She was enthusiastic, generous, and beautiful. I wasn't planning on dating, but I gradually fell for her. After graduation, I took over the family business, which kept me busy. Laura had no ambitions and was always around. At first, it was fine, but later, she got upset because I worked late and couldn't be with her. Isla is a childhood friend. We grew up together and have a great relationship. After she graduated, her family got her a job at the Hayes Group. I never liked her romantically; if I did, I wouldn't have dated Laura. But Laura always thought there was something between us. We argued a lot, and it got worse each time. I tried to ignore it. We were planning to get married. I even set up a meeting with Luke and Rose to discuss the wedding. But that day, Isla had a car accident, and her parents were away. I had to take care of her. Because of that, Laura broke up with me. I thought she was just mad, but she moved to Whisperlyn City for work. I tried to make up with her, but she didn't forgive me. She even used you to provoke me."

Benjamin sighed. "I gave up. Not long after I got back, Laura returned to Silverwood and stormed into my company to beat up Isla. It was crazy. We haven't talked since. I thought it was over, but a few days ago, I ran into her at the beach. I offered to take her home, but she said I had to break up with Isla, or she'd go after the Hayes Group. I thought she was joking, but she really got you involved."

Benjamin paused, looking at Michael. "I hope you can talk to Laura. There's no chance for us anymore, and I hope she leaves Isla alone. Isla has done so much for me; I won't break up with her and hurt her."

Michael crossed his arms, giving Benjamin a serious once-over. Lucas often called him dumb, but that didn't mean he was actually an idiot.

"All I hear is you complaining about Laura. If she was so bad, why did you date her? Why did you like her?" Michael asked, raising an eyebrow.

Benjamin was taken aback. "Actually, as long as it's not about Isla, she's pretty good."

Michael sneered. "You go on about how pure your relationship with Isla is, but then you say Isla has done so much for you. Doesn't that mean Isla has always liked you? You kept someone who likes you around and expect Laura not to complain?"

Benjamin was stunned.

Michael stood up. "You and Laura were about to get engaged, but when Isla had a car accident, you immediately left Laura. Couldn't you have called Laura to explain and taken her with you?"

He continued, "You were so busy with work that you had no time for Laura. She just complained a bit but didn't want to break up. You never thought that she wasn't pursuing her dreams and was staying by your side, making sacrifices for you."

Michael got angrier. "Don't act superior. The Miller Group has surpassed the Hayes Group in recent years. Who do you think you are? Besides, Ocean Blue Group invited Laura to work with them five years ago, but she refused because of you and that damn love. If you really had no feelings for Isla, why did you start dating her a few years later? You're just a hypocrite. Do you really think Laura is still hung up on you and that's why she went after Isla? Come on, she probably doesn't even care about you anymore. Be grateful it was me who took action. If it were someone else, the Hayes Group would be done for by now. Plenty of people can't stand Isla. Now, get out."

Michael was genuinely furious. He couldn't understand how someone like Benjamin could find a girlfriend and even win Laura's affection. Laura was one of the world's most promising young formula designers. Top global cosmetics companies were all trying to collaborate with her.

He really didn't know where Benjamin got his sense of superiority.

Benjamin was left speechless, his mind blank. After a long while, he finally said, "What do you mean? What did Isla do? Did she offend someone else?"

"Didn't you understand? Get out. You make me sick," Michael snapped.

"Mr. Jude, don't go too far," Benjamin said, feeling humiliated. "You're no longer part of the Jude family."

"Even if I'm not part of the Jude family, I can still crush you," Michael sneered.

Benjamin clenched his fists and turned to leave the office.

As soon as he opened the door, he saw Laura standing there, her long hair tied up, revealing a beautiful face.
