Chapter 960 Suspecting David
"Don't just sit there in silence," Lucas said, making Michael uneasy. "Now's not the time to be sad. You've still got a lawsuit hanging over you. The Chamberlain family wants to blow this up, and the public's watching. If you hadn't had that incident inside, you wouldn't have gotten bail."
"The police have already banned you from leaving Whisperlyn City," Lucas sighed. "What exactly happened with Liam? He just vanished."
Michael asked, "Could Liam and Marcus be framing you? Maybe Liam's just hiding."
Joseph closed his eyes, his dark lashes casting a weary shadow. "I don't know, but this might be connected to Marcus. How did Marcus seem emotionally?"
Lucas thought back. "When I confronted Marcus at the police station, he seemed pretty angry, but not particularly sad."
"He must be hiding," Michael said angrily.
"Not necessarily," Joseph shook his head. "Liam was seriously injured. If he's hiding, Marcus would need to find a doctor for him. But I've had people check, and neither the Chamberlain family nor anyone around Marcus has sought medical help. I suspect Liam might really have been persecuted."
Joseph's voice was hoarse, and his heart ached as he spoke the last few words.
Michael was startled. "Who did it?"
Lucas analyzed, "Besides having conflicts with Joseph, Liam didn't really have any enemies. Someone who wants to harm Liam might be trying to use his death to send Joseph to prison."
After all, people at the hotel saw Joseph's men take Liam away. With Liam missing, he's the prime suspect. Think about who in Whisperlyn City might hold a grudge against Joseph."
"David?" Michael suggested. "Or Marcus? But it couldn’t be Marcus; Liam is his son."
"It’s more likely to be David," Lucas said, looking at Joseph. "What do you think?"
Joseph's eyes narrowed. After a moment, he gritted his teeth and said, "It's possible. Also, the person who came after me in the detention center could very well be David."
Joseph had calmed down and thought it over. 'Marcus is my business rival, and if he wanted to make a move, he wouldn't target me in that way. The only suspect is David.'
Joseph was still quite surprised by what David had done.
In Joseph's eyes, David was a nobody, someone he could bully at will, even taking David's woman. David hadn't dared to say a word all month.
Joseph thought to himself, 'David is actually quite terrifying. On the surface, he seems gentle and refined, but no one knows what he's thinking behind the scenes. Just like... just like Marcus used to be. Last time, I sent that kind of video to him. Would he also hate Cassie now? Maybe Cassie would be like Mom in the future. I have to remind Cassie, but she probably wouldn't believe me.'
"I'll have someone investigate David, but the most important thing now is to find Liam. Also, since the Chamberlain family will definitely appeal, I'll find you a professional lawyer," Lucas said.
"Thank you." Joseph never thought that as Madison's top lawyer, he would one day be deeply entangled in a lawsuit. "I already have a strategy in mind. If it comes to a lawsuit with the Chamberlain family, under my command, I won't lose."
"That's good," Lucas replied.
In the men's brand clothing store at the mall.
Cassie was browsing men's suits when someone patted her on the back.
Laura appeared next to Cassie with a smile. "It's been over a month, and you've changed so much. Finally, you asked me out."
"Alright, I just wanted you to help me pick out some men's clothes," Cassie said, holding up a blue shirt. "How about this one?"
"It looks more like something for the younger crowd, not really your dad's style. Is it for David or Joseph?" Laura asked, giving a quick glance.
Cassie said angrily, "Do you think I would buy clothes for Joseph? I'm picking for David. I made him angry and wanted to buy a shirt to apologize, but I don't know David's exact size."
"No need to buy clothes. Men like watches. Come on, let's go pick a good watch." Laura pulled Cassie out.
Cassie thought for a moment, realizing that a luxury watch might better reflect a man's status. "Did I interrupt your work?"
"Please, I'm a director and Michael's fiancée. I can leave whenever I want; no one dares to stop me. Besides, Michael is busy bailing Joseph out of the police station again. He doesn't have time to manage the company," Laura remarked.
Cassie frowned as Laura mentioned Joseph's name quite frequently.
Just as Cassie was about to change the subject, Laura suddenly leaned in and whispered in her ear, "I heard Joseph had an incident at the police station and was sent to the hospital for emergency treatment."
Cassie was stunned. "With Joseph's skills, it's impossible for an accident to happen. He could take on ten people."
"I don't know. Anyway, it seems he was seriously injured," Laura said. "I heard it from Caroline when I was having dinner at the Jude family."
Cassie was dazed for a moment but forced herself not to think about it. "Stop talking to me about Joseph. I'm not interested. Let's go look at watches."
"I just wanted you to vent a little," Laura said.
"I'll be happy as long as Joseph doesn't come looking for me." Cassie finally chose a Patek Philippe watch.
After dinner, when Cassie was about to go home, Laura grabbed her. "Come on, come with me."
When they arrived, Cassie realized it was a charity auction. Tonight, all the major families of Madison were gathered here.
"Why did you bring me here?" Cassie's face turned sullen.
"The Hernandez House is being auctioned tonight. I can't afford it, but I can still enjoy the show," Laura said excitedly, dragging Cassie inside.
"Wait, let me buy a hat first," Cassie stopped Laura. "I bet Luna and her crew are here, too. I don't want to see Luna; she makes me sick."
"True, now that Luna's husband Felix has become the top man in Madison, she's probably very smug." Laura also bought a hat with Cassie. The two of them put on sunglasses and discreetly went to a private box on the second floor.
There were many items up for auction tonight, with the Hernandez House being the final highlight.
Midway through, Cassie went to the restroom and ran into Mabel and Marcus on the way.
However, Mabel and Marcus were no longer a loving couple. Marcus had a young, charming woman in his arms, who was none other than Evelyn. The two were giving Mabel a hard time.
