Chapter 1762 It seems I underestimated you.

"I don't know," Max frowned. "But I had dinner with Gary a few days ago, and he didn't mention Bernice at all. When they broke up, Gary was really fed up with Bernice."

"Fed up?" Lucas lowered his voice.

An indescribable feeling welled up in his heart.

His woman was actually despised by someone like Gary.

How low could Bernice be?

But Max was afraid Lucas would flip the table in a fit of rage.

"It would have been better if we hadn't terminated the contract," Max said with deep regret. "Our company screwed her over this time. I want to bring her back to sign a new contract, but Bernice definitely won't agree."

"I won't let this slide," Lucas said coldly. "I'll make sure she comes back and cooperates with us."

Max opened his mouth.

He actually wanted to say that they were the ones who acted unfairly in the first place, and forcing her to come back seemed wrong.

But Lucas had always been domineering and selfish. Since Bernice suffered because of this, Lucas definitely wouldn't let it go.

Midnight.

Bernice received a message from Lucas: [Come over.]

Sitting at the bar, Bernice saw the message on her phone and a look of obvious mockery flashed in her eyes.

He expected her to come just because he said so. He really didn't see women as people.

She put down her phone and ignored it.

A moment later, Lucas sent another message on Facebook: [If you don't come, I'll send your subordinates to the police.]

He was using threats again.

Bernice glanced at the night outside, ignored it, and went to her room to rest.

The next day, she was woken up by a call from Gary. His voice was angry, "Bernice, you're really something. Why didn't you discuss with me before deciding to make your suicide attempt public? Do you know how many people online are calling me a bad guy who drove you to suicide?"

"Wasn't it you who drove me to it? I said online that it was half because of career setbacks and half because of relationship issues. I've already covered for you enough," Bernice leaned against the headboard, her voice lazy yet uniquely charming and bold.

Gary was stunned. He had been quite angry, but hearing her nonchalant voice, he felt a strange sensation, "Did you just wake up?"

He knew Bernice well. Her voice was always like this when she just woke up, but it wasn't as cold back then.

This only made her more enticing to men.

"What's it to you?" Bernice replied coldly.

Gary was both angry and amused, "Bernice, you've grown bold. You even dare to curse at me now."

"Why wouldn't I dare?" Bernice said calmly. "I was naive before. After entering this circle, I've met many wealthy people and realized that the Ross family in Whisperlyn City is not that impressive."

Gary was immediately infuriated, "Fine, I heard that Cassie and Laura are your friends now. Impressive. But Bernice, you're just from a small place. There's a world of difference between you and them. The difference between people is determined from the moment they're born."

"Idiot."

Bernice hung up the phone.

Gary stared at the ended call, incredulous.

Bernice dared to curse at him and hang up on him.

Wasn't she supposed to love him to death?

Now she didn't even care about him. Could it be a tactic to attract his attention?

Gary's eyes showed interest. He had to admit, Bernice's move really intrigued him.

While making breakfast, Fiona contacted Bernice, "Did you move?"

"Yes, I terminated the contract. I have no reason to stay in Dreamscape Entertainment Group's house," Bernice stirred the pasta in the pot.

Fiona felt complicated, "Bernice, you actually had a solution in mind all along, didn't you?"

"Fiona, you overestimate me. If it weren't for that incident involving Gary, I would have had no way out," Bernice's voice was calm. No matter how Fiona treated her before, once she left the company, they were destined to go separate ways.

"Do you think Mr. Jenkins and Mr. Nelson will believe that?" Fiona said helplessly. "Mr. Nelson asked me to tell you that he wants to see you this morning, or else you'll face the consequences."

"Then tell him, 10 AM at Opulence Heights Resort."

Fiona relayed the message to Lucas.

After breakfast, Bernice changed her clothes and put on heavy makeup before heading out.

When she arrived at the private room in the club, she waited for fifteen minutes before Lucas finally arrived. He had his hands in his pockets, his handsome face adorned with silver-rimmed glasses, looking dignified and elegant.

Bernice was most annoyed by his demeanor, but she still obediently poured him a cup of coffee, "Mr. Nelson, I specially made your favorite coffee."

Lucas glanced at the coffee, then at Bernice's face, thick with makeup and false eyelashes, which made him uncomfortable, "Bernice, you've grown bold, even daring to play me."

"Mr. Nelson, you really overestimate me," Bernice said with a hint of nervousness. "If it weren't for Gary's help, I wouldn't have managed this."

"Do you think I'm stupid?" Lucas wanted to grab her chin but stopped, thinking of the makeup on her face. His eyes were cold, "I gave you a hundred million dollars to terminate the contract without any loss. Now you're free, and your reputation is restored. Bernice, it seems I underestimated you."

Under his gaze, Bernice deliberately trembled, "When I proposed the termination, I really didn't think it through."

"The truth, I want the truth," Lucas's patience was running out. "Why did Gary stand up for you? Did you make some secret deal with him or someone else?"

Bernice suddenly looked up, her eyes filled with fear.

"Bernice, did you sleep with Gary behind my back? Or with another man?" Lucas couldn't control his anger any longer and grabbed her chin, "Don't forget, you're my woman."

Although he had to admit he was tired of Bernice, he knew very well that her beauty and fame made many men in the wealthy circle covet her.

The thought of her sleeping with another man made Lucas feel betrayed and furious.

"Am I having a memory lapse?" Bernice trembled with a smile, "I clearly remember Mr. Nelson saying I wasn't worthy of being your woman. Everyone said I was just your tool for sexual release. Mr. Nelson, you're not new to finding women. If you want a woman to willingly follow you, you have to give something in return. I didn't see any return from you, only exploitation."

"You finally speak the truth," Lucas's eyes narrowed coldly.

"Isn't it true?"

Bernice's face was filled with anger and pain, "Following you, I had no house, no car. I wasn't even qualified to open a studio. I had nothing, and I signed the company's most stringent contract. The company's best resources went to Sarah. Poor me, I made so much money for the company, yet I could become the company's sacrificial lamb at any time. Oh, and I had to sleep with you, without any dignity. Since I was already sleeping with someone, what's the difference between sleeping with one more or one less?"
